In this paper, we propose an optimization of fuzzy model which exploits remotely sensed multispectral reflectances to estimate Suspended Particulates Matters SPM concentrations in coastal waters. The relation between the SPM concentrations and the subsurface reflectances is modeled by a set of fuzzy rules extracted automatically from the data through two steps procedure. First, fuzzy rules are generated by unsupervised fuzzy clustering of the input data. In the second step, a genetic algorithm is applied to optimize the rules. Our contribution has focused on global and partial optimization of rules and a proposed chromosome structure adapted to remotesensing data. Results of the application of each type of optimization to Landsat and Modis data are shown and discussed.

High spatial resolution satellite imagery has become an important source of information for mapping and a great number of related applications. Region based segmentation of high resolution imagery is now considered a more suitable method than traditional per pixel classification techniques. Region growing is a classical method in image segmentation due to its simplicity and effectiveness in making using of spatial information among pixels. On the other hand, the automatic and optimal selection of the seeds of growing has been a key in the context. In order to take great advantage of human vision's capability of object recognition, this paper presents a semiautomatic segmentation scheme by which seed regions provided by human operator grow to their boundary separating the seed object and its background. The algorithm 'learns' texture measurement from the seed region and tries to expand the seed region till the grown region has maximal difference of texture property with the background while the in-class texture property is still consistent. We used a local binary pattern based texture measurement and tested the approach with a number of high resolution images to extract residential, forestry and different land coverage. The result shows its potential of practical utilization in analysis of high resolution imagery.

The aim of this research to develop a real-time, robust, vision based hand-gesture control system capable of operating in different living room environments including low light conditions, and using inexpensive hardware components. The system is designed for remote control of a TV set-top box using a preset gesture vocabulary. A camera is located above a TV screen, across from the user. Gestures may be performed from anywhere within the sensors field of view, without the requirement that the operator obtain visual or auditory feedback. The system is capable of using either a near-IR or a visible color webcam. Hand tracking is based on a modified CAMShift algorithm with face detection and blocking. Gesture classification is based on a limited number of gesture motion trajectory features using a tree-based classifier ensemble, and a modified Longest Common Subsequence (LCS) method. Preliminary testing and evaluation of the systems real time operation is reported.

In this paper, the knowledge modeling, architecture design and detailed implementation of an ontology-based knowledge base for target recognition in remotesensingimages is presented. Knowledge base is a critical component of a large ground target recognition system which is a hybrid system that combines knowledge base with remotesensingimageprocessing module. The knowledge base provides necessary knowledge for remotesensingimageprocessing module, and remotesensingimageprocessing module can perform multiple tasks with the support of the knowledge base. The existence of the knowledge base makes the whole recognition system more flexible and more generic than those systems without knowledge base. The effectiveness of the presented knowledge base shows the good prospect of the application of knowledge base in remotesensingimageprocessing domain.
