In the actual production operation, it is important to monitor the environmental temperature. Aiming at the problems of complex structure and electromagnetic interference of traditional electric sensors, a temperature sensor based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is designed to monitor the ambient temperature. The response model between the wavelength variation of FBG center and temperature is established by the neural network fitting tool. The experimental results show that the model has a minimum root-mean-square error of 0.83426, and the overall correlation between the predicted data and the real data reaches 0.98512, which meets the actual monitoring requirements. © 2024 SPIE.

sensors based on optical fiber interference structures offer benefits such as high sensitivity, simple fabrication and good compatibility, and are widely used in fields like biological monitoring, chemical engineering, and environmental monitoring. However, these sensors often face unavoidable cross-sensitivity issues between temperature and refractive index. Therefore, developing a new optical fiber refractive index sensor that is insensitive to temperature and has a broad refractive index measurement range remains a significant research issue. In this work, proposing a temperature-insensitive refractive index sensor featuring a two-stage Fabry-Perot (F-P) cavity made from single-mode fiber (SMF), capillary fiber (CF), and no core fiber (NCF) based on the principle of mode interference. The research experimentally investigates the sensor's sensitivity to temperature and refractive index. Results indicate that the sensor's amplitude correlates linearly with the refractive index in both optical and Fourier domains, covering a refractive index range of 1.3164 to 1.4215. In the Fourier domains, sensitivities of - 0.7184/refractive index unit (RIU) and - 0.2672/RIU are recorded at two distinct positions, respectively. A direct relationship between the amplitude and the refractive index is established. Additionally, the proposed sensor is almost insensitive to temperature in both the wavelength and Fourier domains. At the same time, experimental validation using water, ethanol, isopropanol, and glycerin solutions with varying refractive indexes, yielding results that align well with the established refractive index relationship. © 2025 SPIE.

LPWAN has partially replaced traditional wired networks in fields such as smart industry, smart healthcare, smart home, etc., due to its low power consumption, high reliability and low cost. LPWAN can achieve long-distance and low-power data transmission without increasing bandwidth, thus meeting the energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness and security requirements of IoT devices. However, low-power IoT also faces some challenges due to design limitations. For example, the reliability of connection under harsh environment and communication interference conditions, and ensuring the long life of devices. To solve this problem, in addition to improving hardware aspects, we also seek to use machine learning methods to make devices run under highly intelligent scheduling conditions, so as to optimize device connection reliability and energy utilization. To this end, this paper proposes a data acquisition, denoising, prediction and transmission optimization method for low-power sensor networks. First, by collecting sound data, video data and light data using temporal flow for modality alignment we achieve data denoising and prediction. Second, by predicting the transmission efficiency of sensors under different temperature humidity and illumination conditions we dynamically adjust sensor power and bandwidth according to transmission loss changes to maximize data transmission efficiency. Finally, we deployed the multimodal Transformer method on edge sensor nodes, combining the data transmitted from image, temperature, and humidity sensors. This approach improved the reliability of data transmission for the sensor devices. Experimental results show that compared with existing methods our proposed method has significant improvement in delay, wavelet denoising efficiency, packet delivery ratio and transmission efficiency.

The presented research relates to an IoT based device for sensing quality of food items using sensors, and more particularly relates to a device which shows its results through a mobile application, and further the user can check the quality of food item on his/her mobile device and proposes the work done in shooting up the efficiency of a device that detects the presence of different parameters in a food item on which it is judged to be fresh or tainted, at an early stage with the help of sensors, basically alerting us that if the food item is fine to consume or not. Due to the increasing number of food-borne diseases globally, the detection of food consumption has become an essential aspect of modern life. The system includes, but not limited to, a plurality of sensors for sensing varied parameters of a food item;a microcontroller unit for processing the signal received from the sensors;a mobile interface to show the results for freshness and quality about the food items. Different sensors detect the freshness of different food items based on various parameters like moisture, ethanol and alcohol content and humidity in the environment. Eat Fresh device mainly consist of a node microcontroller unit (MCU) and different types of sensors like ethanol sensor, humidity sensor, moisture sensor. The analogue results are passed to the pins of the Node microcontroller unit (MCU) which already have an inbuilt ADC (analogue to digital converter) that converts the analogue value to digital value. This device 'Eat-Fresh' is capable enough to help us check the safety of the food. Hence, preventing deaths due to food poisoning and helping us to put a stop on the wastage of food. © 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are networks of dedicated, spatially scattered sensors that track and record environmental and physical variables and transmit the gathered information to a centralized point. The size and processing power of wireless sensor nodes are relatively small, and they have very little battery life. Resources including energy, memory, computing speed, and communications bandwidth are limited by size and cost restrictions. By minimizing duplication, data aggregation allows us to conserve these resources and cut down on energy usage. Another crucial necessity when sending information from sensor nodes to the base station is data security. Some of the power-saving and privacy-preserving techniques utilized for data aggregation in WSNs are discussed in this work.

Nowadays, the surveillance system performing as an indispensable part for modern industrial Internet has attracted much attention. With the continuous progress of microprocessor technology, sensor technology, particularly optical sensors, and network technology, it has entered the era of pervasive computing, which leads to the breakthrough of the surveillance system and the emergence of intelligent environment safety monitoring systems. However, the intelligence of surveillance systems is still a significant challenge. In this paper, we propose a surveillance system for detecting and recognizing people based on their behaviors from images or video sequences using computer vision techniques and optical sensor data, which is implemented by designing the system architecture through a hierarchical structure, applying key techniques such as background subtraction, modeling, and optical sensing analysis, and experimentally processing and testing a variety of behavioral samples. The alarm information generated by the proposed surveillance system aided by pervasive computing system can be delivered to remote terminals. Experimental results reveal that the environmental monitoring and alarm information can be processed in real time with devices, such as cell phones, telephones, and PCs. Therefore, the proposed approach can improve the performance of the surveillance systems. © 2025 SPIE.

In this study introduces an innovative Internet of Things (IoT)-based alert system designed for medical settings, with the primary goal of preventing saline reversal incidents. The administration of saline is crucial for patient recovery in healthcare facilities, but lapses in staff attention can lead to dangerous reversals. Our proposed system strategically places sensors in the saline network to detect improper flow, specifically backflow of blood, and promptly notifies medical staff via mobile message upon detection. If saline levels drop below a predefined limit, the sensor stops the flow and sends an alert. A user-friendly web application allows real-time monitoring of flow rates. The core components of the system include the ESP8266 as the master controller, a load cell for precise bottle weight measurement, and a servo motor for drip control. Efficient alerts are sent through the IFTTT server, ensuring timely communication via SMS or call. This technological innovation significantly enhances patient safety by reducing harmful incidents associated with saline administration. The web app provides healthcare staff with a convenient platform to monitor current saline levels, marking a critical advancement in healthcare technology for improved patient care and safety. © 2024 IEEE.

In view of the technical bottlenecks of eutectic salt electric superheat detector used in aircraft duct leakage monitoring, such as poor electromagnetic compatibility, low measurement accuracy and slow response time, a linear fiber optical sensor for aircraft duct leakage detection is studied in this paper. The research demonstrates that the sensor is capable of adapting to the operational conditions of pipeline bending assembly, with a temperature sensing accuracy of 0.1m, positioning accuracy of 1m, temperature measurement accuracy within ±3℃, and a working temperature range from 0-180℃. Moreover, it can replace the eutectic salt leak detection sensors to achieve remote distributed measurement. © 2024 SPIE.

A robotic parallel manipulator is implemented by employing embedded systems integrated with a set of sensors. More than one type of sensor are implemented together with the control input data from a human limb. Initially, a data set is collected on the map to certain equivalent actuations at the manipulator, and then using an appropriate machine learning algorithm, the control data value for the continuous position of the actuator is generated. A substantial amount of work is done on mapping the position of the limb to the actuator position by creating a three-dimensional model conventional 3D conversion, which is used on the boundary values of the input and output matched with a certain level of intermediate values, a proper training dataset for a machine learning algorithm can be created. The position of the manipulator is monitored by an IoT system and a set of sensors installed at the end. In addition, applied sciences transmits the possession date of the equator, and this information can be viewed remotely from any device connected to the internet. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the advancement of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and interventional therapy robots, the lack of direct perception of the contact force between interventional instruments and human blood vessels and tissues by physicians often leads to surgical complications or suboptimal treatment outcomes. Therefore, the development of miniature force sensors for instrument tips has become a hot research topic. This paper introduces a fiber-optic flexible force sensor based on Fabry-Pérot interference (FPI), which can be integrated into the tip of guidewires used in minimally invasive surgery. The performance of the designed sensor was validated through simulations and experiments, demonstrating its excellent capabilities. The results indicate the potential of this sensor for real-time force monitoring in minimally invasive interventions. © 2024 SPIE.
