With the rapid advancement of smart home technologies, personalized home devices have garnered significant attention from users. This paper presents the design and implementation of an intelligent dressing mirror based on Raspberry Pi 4B, aimed at addressing the growing demand for personalized home environments. The system utilizes Raspberry Pi 4B as the central controller and integrates with Alibaba Cloud's MQTT service to store customized clothing items and images, categorized by gender. Real-time environmental data, including weather, time, temperature, humidity, and ultraviolet levels, are acquired via the wireless module integrated into the Raspberry Pi. Additionally, photoelectric sensors and cameras capture relevant user data. By analyzing these datasets, the system recommends suitable clothing combinations and displays personalized clothing suggestions, weather updates, date, and schedule information on the mirror interface. Experimental results demonstrate that the system not only exhibits low power consumption but also effectively integrates personal care with home automation technologies, providing users with a convenient and tailored experience.

This study presents a comprehensive study on smart home automation systems utilizing Internet of Things (IoT) sensor technology to achieve efficient energy conservation. The proposed system integrates ZigBee and WiFi communication protocols for effective and reliable connectivity across various smart devices within a home. Through the deployment of interconnected sensors and intelligent controllers, the system allows real-time monitoring and management of household energy usage, optimizing energy consumption and reducing waste. The combination of ZigBee for low-power, long-range sensor networks and WiFi for high-speed data transmission enables seamless interaction between smart appliances, lighting, heating, and cooling systems. Proposesd approach offers a scalable, cost-effective solution for enhancing home automation with an emphasis on energy conservation and sustainability. Also discussed the implementation, challenges, and future potential of IoT-based smart home systems for improved energy efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

WSNs are a relatively young but promising area of research. Tiny, battery-powered gadgets with sensors, central processing units, and mobile connection components make up the separate nodes that comprise such networks. By carefully positioning themselves across an area, WSNs are able to identify and document changes in a wide range of environmental factors, including but not limited to temperature, light, stress, and vibrations. The collected data is sent to a computer system for further analysis and processing via wireless communication to an administrative gateway or base stations (BS). We need to overcome a lot of barriers before we can install and run WSNs successfully. Some instances of these challenges are a short battery lifespan, a limited communication range, and the need to assure data security. An essential factor to consider is the endurance of the batteries of nodes that sense since they are often located in uncomfortable and remote areas where it would be impractical to regularly replace or recharge them. The coverage area and the capability of the network to receive data from considerably nodes are both affected by the limitations of communication range. This paper proposes an Energy-Efficient Routing Protocol (EERP) designed specifically for heterogeneity WSNs with the goal of optimizing networks reach, communication, and energy consumption. In several respects, we showed in our calculations that the EERP is superior than the Threshold Sensitive Stable Election Protocol (TSEP) with having 100% results. In order to boost the transfer of packets to the base station, the EERP minimizes the total amount of active nodes, thus maximizing the area covered. Because of this, the EERP prolongs the life of the network far more than TSEP. © 2024 IEEE.

Internet of Things (IoT) is playing an increasingly important role in intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) for real-time sensing and communication. In ITS, vehicle types, volume and speeds provide important information for road traffic management. However, the present methods for on-road traffic monitoring are lacking in providing cost-effective means to meet the demands. In this paper, we propose MagMonitor, a novel method for on-road traffic surveillance through a single small and easy-to-install magnetic sensor. The developed magnetic sensor system is wireless-connected, cost-effective, and environmental-friendly. First, a magnetic model of a moving vehicle is presented. The model employs multiple magnetic dipoles for modelling moving vehicle and varies depending on the on-road vehicle types. Through modelling of local magnetic field perturbations caused by moving vehicles, we extract the characteristics of magnetic waveforms for vehicle identification and speed estimation. The proposed model and estimation technique are validated with real field experimental data. Furthermore, we analyze and compare the performance of the proposed estimation technique with other speed estimation algorithms, which shows the superior accuracy of the proposed technique.

The surveillance of indoor air quality is paramount for ensuring environmental safety, a task made increasingly viable due to advancements in technology and the application of artificial intelligence and deep learning (DL) tools. This paper introduces an intelligent system dedicated to monitoring air quality and categorizing activities within indoor environments using a DL approach based on 1D Convolutional Neural networks (1D-CNNs). Our system integrates six diverse sensors to gather measurement parameters, which subsequently train a 1D CNN model for activity recognition. This proposed model boasts a lightweight and edge-deployable design, rendering it ideal for real-time applications. We conducted our experiments utilizing an air quality dataset specifically designed for Activity of Daily Living (ADL) classification. The results illustrate the proposed model's efficacy, achieving a remarkable accuracy of 97.00%, a minimal loss value of 0.15%, and a swift prediction time of 41 milliseconds. © 2023 IEEE.

Aquaponics is a sustainable farming method that combines aquaculture and hydroponics to grow plants and fish in a closed-loop system. In this research paper, an irrigation system based on aquaponics is proposed, which uses real-time sensor data from the fish tank and crop soil to improve the efficiency of the system. The system is designed to make informed decisions about crop irrigation needs by visualizing the data for analytics. The study compares the accuracy of three classification algorithms, KNN, Naive Bayes, and ANN, to decide when to irrigate the soil based on real-time sensor data. The proposed irrigation system includes two sets of sensors, one for the fish tank and the other for the crop soil, which is processed by an Arduino board and sent to Adafruit’s cloud platform for visualization and analytics. This cloud-based platform allows easy access to real-time data, enabling efficient monitoring and control of the irrigation system. Additionally, the study visualizes the results obtained from using regular water and lake water in the aquaponics system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

With the development of information technology, more and more big data and Internet of Things related technologies have begun to integrate into the construction of campus information, and the construction of campus security information identification system is developing in the direction of automatic, intelligent, sharing and linkage. In this study, the intelligent campus security information needs are investigated, and the campus security system based on the Internet of Things is designed, and the overall design scheme is proposed. CC2530 chip is selected to be responsible for data processing and communication coordination. The main idea is to sense the environment through various terminal modules, that is, temperature sensors, smoke detection sensors, etc. sensor nodes and coordination nodes independently establish a wireless local area network based on ZigBee protocol, and the sensor module in the sensor nodes distributed on the campus begins to power on and collect environment and security information continuously. The sensing node sends the detected information to the coordination node through multicast mode, and then the coordination node sends the detected information to the back-end control gateway through the serial port. STM32 displays security detection information through the TFT LCD module, which is processed by the system administrator; When the monitoring indicators exceed the normal range, the remote alarm function will be activated, and the back-end control gateway will send alarm information to the Android client.

Relay detection is an important step to ensure the reliable operation of relays in electrical systems. This paper proposes a fault diagnosis system for alternating current(AC) relays based on Convolutional Neural networks(CNN). The system uses a vibration sensor to collect signals from the AC relay, and then transmits the vibration signals to the edge processing unit embedded with CNN. The edge processing unit extracts the time domain features of the AC relay vibration signal, and then classifies the features in the CNN model. Finally, the system outputs the results of abnormal vibration detection. The experimental results show that the system proposed in this paper can effectively identify the abnormal vibration of AC relays, reaching an accuracy rate of 98.3%, which is better than the traditional Support Vector Machines(SVM) or Random Forest(RF) methods. This paper provides a standardized, automated and intelligent solution for the field of abnormal vibration detection of AC relays, which helps to improve product quality and production efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Road safety is a critical concern worldwide, with millions of lives lost and countless injuries sustained in traffic accidents annually. To address this pressing issue, a costeffective and reliable solution is proposed for enhancing road safety. The system leverages affordable sensors, wireless communication, and data analytics to combine accident detection, driver drowsiness monitoring, and real-time vehicle tracking. An accelerometer is utilized to detect collisions, an eye blink sensor to monitor driver drowsiness, and GPS for precise vehicle tracking. Upon accident detection or driver drowsiness, the system sends alerts via SMS and a mobile app, providing real-time location information. The microcontroller processes sensor data and controls communication modules, prioritizing critical events. Extensive testing demonstrates high accuracy in accident detection (95% in cities, 70% in rural areas), driver drowsiness detection (96%), and unauthorized access detection (97%). The system also excels in detecting accidents in parking mode (95%) and offers a battery backup of 1-2 days. Comparative analysis highlights the system's superiority in terms of accuracy, comprehensive features, and integration of multiple safety aspects. The proposed system's impact extends beyond individual vehicles, offering opportunities for innovation, economic growth, and sustainable transportation. With ongoing improvements and consideration of ethical and societal factors, this system has the potential to revolutionize vehicle safety and contribute to a safer, smarter transportation ecosystem. © 2024 IEEE.

In order to adapt the performance requirements of Energy Harvesting Wireless sensor networks (EH-WSNs) for distributed detection, an adaptive transmission control strategy based on cross-layer design was proposed. First, the simulation model of the distributed detection-oriented EH-WSNs was constructed, including the wireless channel model, MAC model, energy model, and detection model. With the competition probability of each sensor, the number of observed samples, the average power of transmitted signals and the average power of detection as decision variables, the optimization of the transmission control scheme was formulated as the maximization of the deflection coefficient that correlates detection and communication. An interior point method was used to solve the problem. Finally, the strategy was compared and analyzed with other schemes, and its performance advantages were verified. © 2022 IEEE.
