MIMO radar networks are composed of multiple separated MIMO sensors and each radar sensor can be viewed as a subarray. Although the MIMO radar networks can obtain a larger virtual aperture, excessive node or subarray spacing will lead to a wider grating lobe distribution. In order to solve the grating lobe problem, this paper proposes a Kaiser-Kalmus sum and difference beam cancellation method, which uses subarray beam to suppress array factor’s grating lobes. In the MIMO radar networks imaging scenario, the effectiveness of this algorithm was verified through simulation and experiments.

Continuous detection of human activities and presence is essential for developing a pervasive interactive smart space. Existing literature lacks robust wireless sensing mechanisms capable of continuously monitoring multiple users’ activities without prior knowledge of the environment. Developing such a mechanism requires simultaneous localization and tracking of multiple subjects. In addition, it requires identifying their activities at various scales, some being macro-scale activities like walking, squats, etc., while others are micro-scale activities like typing or sitting, etc. In this paper, we develop a holistic system called MARS using a single Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Millimeter Wave (mmWave) radar, which employs an intelligent model to sense both macro and micro activities. In addition, it uses a dynamic spatial time-sharing approach to sense different subjects simultaneously. A thorough evaluation of MARS shows that it can infer activities continuously with an accuracy of > 93% and an average response time of ≈ 2 sec, with 5 subjects and 19 different activities.

Although there has been tremendous progress in autonomous driving, navigating environments and predicting the behavior of other drivers in the presence of occlusions remains challenging. Cities have started investing in infrastructure sensors that could provide information about occluded spaces. We propose a framework that integrates infrastructure-to-vehicle communication in autonomous vehicle decision making, improving operational safety and mobility in challenging environments. By framing the problem as a partially observable Markov decision process in which querying an infrastructure sensor is a data-gathering action, we reduce the computational complexity associated with sensorprocessing while maintaining equivalent performance compared to an omniscient actor and demonstrate the value of infrastructure communication through a series of experiments.

To provide an efficient solution to the difficulty in navigation faced by the visually impaired, this paper presents a device built on the principle of object detection. This model utilizes ultrasonic sensors to detect an object that is present in front of the visually impaired individual. This device is built using Arduino Nano which serves as a processing unit, a battery as a power source, a buzzer for feedback audio cues, and an ultrasonic sensor that detects obstacles. The prototype is then implemented on a pair of glasses which makes it easy to use in everyday life. This is a portable, economical, and easy-to-use device that helps in safe indoor and outdoor navigation of the visually impaired thus, fulfilling the needs of visually impaired individuals.
