Model-based development has emerged as a popular approach aiding automation of the software development process, where software is implemented and tested based on a model of the required system. Finite State Machines (FSMs) are a widely used model representation for a variety of systems, including control systems, signal processing and communications protocols. Ensuring that the model accurately represents the required behaviour involves the generation and execution of a large number of tests that is time consuming and expensive. In this paper, we focus on test execution and propose exploiting Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for accelerating FSM testing by executing the tests in parallel on GPU threads. Our approach includes methods to encode the FSM efficiently and optimise the layout of tests in GPU memory for fast execution. We compare speedup achieved by our approach against parallel test execution on a multi-core CPU with 16 cores. We also assess the improvement in speedup using the proposed FSM encoding and test layouts. We use large FSMs from the networking domain and a large industry FSM from Keysight, who provide electronic measurement solutions, in our evaluation. We accelerate the execution of test suites providing all-transition pair coverage for each of the FSMs. Speedup achieved is subject to characteristics of the FSM and associated tests, and is greatly improved with efficient FSM encoding and test layout in memory. We find our approach on the GPU achieves a maximum test execution speedup of 12× over a 16-core CPU.

Sleep disorders affect a great percentage of the population. The diagnostic of these disorders is usually made by a polysomnography, requiring patient's hospitalization. Low cost ambulatory diagnostic devices can in certain cases be used, especially when there is no need of a full or rigorous sleep staging. In this paper, several methods to extract features from 6 EEG channels are described in order to evaluate their performance. The features are selected using the R-square Pearson correlation coefficient (Guyon and Elisseeff, 2003), providing this way a Bayesian classifier with the most discriminative features. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the methods to discriminate several sleep stages, and ranks the several feature extraction methods. The best discrimination was achieved for relative spectral power, slow wave index, harmonic parameters and Hjorth parameters.

In this research, the Human Following Robot (HFR) prototype has been designed and implemented using YOLO v3-Tiny and Tensor Flow Lite on Raspberry Pi hardware named Rewang. The HFR Rewang is designed to assist aircraft technicians by bringing maintenance tool kits to aircraft shelters. Rewang's movement is based on a camera as a vision sensor following the movement of human entities. Image input is processed by YOLO v3-Tiny through the determination of the bounding box, the calculation of Euclidean Distance, and the determination of the pixel value of the camera as the basis of Rewang's movement which is regulated by an L298N driver motor that controls two Direct Current (DC) motors for the left and right wheels. The test results show that Rewang can move at an average speed of 0.18 m/s at 2 m with a travel time of 11 seconds with a light intensity of more than 250 lux. The minimum and maximum distance of object detection is as far as 120 cm and 400 cm, with an object detection accuracy of 95.8%. Rewang allows the HFR to have a larger carrying capacity to bring more complete aircraft maintenance tools and is prospective for other aerospace and general applications.

Considering constantly increasing demand for shift from mass production to mass customization and the need to maintain high level of automation despite permanent changes in manufacturing technologies and tools new approaches and solutions have to be provided in manufacturing. Cyber-Physical Systems and Industrial Internet of Things are enabling smart manufacturing to tackle the challenge of data processing, integration and interpretation, but beyond uniformed data collection and visualization. The cognitive approach is argued to introduce brain and biologically-inspired algorithms capable to better adapt industrial systems for unforeseen conditions. Such approach should provide flexible and robust solution for manufacturing systems, enabling new level of adaptability and re-configurability in the system by self-X capabilities. In this paper contemporary solutions applicable for introduction of cognitive capabilities in manufacturing systems are studied and the architecture for cognitive manufacturing system employing benefits of Industrial Internet and Cognitive control is proposed.
