Level crossings are defined as passive and automated ones. Traffic risk of the automated level crossing is analyzed and estimated. The function and the dependability of the level crossing control system are modeled based on the stochastic Petri nets. The relationship between the national statistic data and the densities of the road users and railway train is set up and a mathematical function is used to describe the relation between the road users' action and the national dat. The parameters of the Petri nets based model is identified and validated based on the available data and finally the personal risk of the level crossing is estimated.

Multiple traveling salesman problem, which uses the shortest total route as an optimization criteria, has huge application in both theoretical research and industry. This paper presents an improved genetic algorithm to provide an alternative and effective solution to the problem. The initial population was generated by greedy strategy, this enabled selected sub-route to be included in the initial population. Convergent speed was increased and at the same time complexity was significantly reduced. The mutation operator combined with 2-opt local search algorithm was used to avoid the limitation of local search ability of genetic algorithm. It also solved the problems of the simple genetic algorithm such as premature phenomena and slow convergence. The simulation results based on our algorithm show that the improved method is effective and feasible.

As a fundamental system identification experiment, modal test with an accurate result has great effects on the subsequent work, which is often restricted by many unavoidable factors. This paper discussed the method of properly selecting response and exciting points with the modal pre-test analysis based on an existing FEA modal to guide and improve the execution of modal test. A modal test was performed and analyzed with an optimized exciting and response arrangement. The modal test result can adequately express the natural characteristics of the specimen, and is more conducive to the amendment of finite element model, because the pre-test analysis derives from the FEA modal. The analytical result of the amended model is quite consistent with testing result in relation to both natural frequencies and modal shapes. The pre-test analysis can provide a convincing advice on how to design an appropriate modal test.

Video surveillance system is widely used in the current traffic monitoring system. Existing commercial image processing system works well in vehicle detection and tracking, but it has difficulties in vehicle classification if the camera is not calibrated. A priori camera calibration is used in many systems, which is a complicated process. In this paper, a very simple roadside camera calibration is proposed. Our algorithm is based on some reasonable assumptions, which only requires a traffic video for calibration. The camera is calibrated by estimating the lane boundaries and the vanishing point. Then the position in image coordinate is transformed to real-world reference systems. After calibration, the vehicles are classified by their lengths on the road. Finally, the performance of our classification approach is illustrated and discussed.

Agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) offers a promising approach to deal with complexities of open complex systems. This article proposed an approach of agent-based modeling and simulation enhanced with pattern-oriented modeling strategy for open complex systems. An agent-based meta-model and its relevant model structure provided a unifying model basis of pattern-oriented agent-based modeling and simulation. This article implemented the agent-based meta-model and its structure to build a prototype system model of forest fire, a typical open complex system. The forest fire model integrated with different patterns such as CA for fire spreading, and network for fire suppressing. Dynamic simulation of the forest fire model revealed influence of these interdisciplinary patterns towards forest fire system. The results show that pattern-oriented agent-based modeling and simulation can be applied for open complex systems effectively.

The information fusion algorithm of on-line handwriting signature verification is proposed in order to improve the verification effect. The fused algorithm fuses three kinds of algorithms of on-line handwriting signature verification, respectively based on the evolution computation, the neural network and the discrete Fre¿chet distance. The test signature is verified, by each of the three kinds of algorithms, to obtain its confidence level of every algorithm. The final confidence level of the signature is fused by the confidence level of every algorithm through their weights calculation, and it can be used to judge whether the test signature is genuine. The experiment results reveal the remarkably decreasing percentage of false rejection and false acceptance.

An efficient and accurate modeling based on Fourier optics is presented to simulate the field propagation in an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) demultiplexer. A modification is used to improve the accuracy, considering the fourth order quantitative error of the conventional formula. Using the modified formula, the spectral response characteristic of AWG is presented and simulation results show that this modeling is more accurate than the conventional one. Furthermore, a 1 × 256 channel AWG with 0.1 nm channel spacing is designed.

Human tracking, as a basic research in computer vision, is a key technology in many applications, such as robotics for home using, auto-vehicles in city road and automatic surveillance systems. Although it is always a hot topic in the world of computer vision, it still contains many opening areas for researchers, mainly because there is no single framework could solve all the four problems, occlusion, illumination variation, shadow, and zooming. This paper starts by a new series algorithms for illumination reconstruction, and then introduces a new framework which is called part tracking by multi-cue integration. Aiming at an on-line tracking system in complicated background, this framework is suitable for our application.

In order to simultaneously achieve high maneuverability and lowest off-target for the wrestle air-to-air missile, a hybrid BTT/STT autopilot is proposed. According to BTT control good turning ability in big angle-of-attack and STT control excellent accuracy in small angle-of-attack, whom would be chose on the basis of overload command given by guidance system. We changed overload command into correlative angle instruction, then built a two-step controller based on dynamic inversion algorithm, together with actuators and missile dynamics to constitute a hybrid BTT/STT autopilot. The simulation results show that this autopilot can precisely track overload command during the whole flight process, simultaneously satisfy agile turning of big angle-of-attack in starting trajectory and high control precision in terminal guidance.

The zero shifts caused by accumulative error of open-loop numerical controlling mechanical equipments need to be manually corrected. An optical-mechanical-electrical integration technology included image analyzer, slit image and MCU are applied to constitute of a system for auto zero shift detection and auto zero returning. Firstly we utilize optoelectronic device to detect the work zero point, then the zero value is used to be compared with the reference zero point stored on the memory of MCU, at last the deviation between the two zero values are feedback to the actuator for compensation. Experiments show that a higher precision of zero point can be realized by this system.
