Nowadays, irrigation accounts for almost 70% of global water usage. Therefore, it is essential to design irrigation systems in such a way that it can reduce water usage as well as the expense. Making eco-friendly irrigation systems is another challenge for researchers. To overcome these problems, a variety of appliances and systems combining state-of-the-art software and hardware features have been developed. Yet, research on smart irrigation systems is ongoing. To have a comprehensive understanding of the prospective and continuing instance, this study presents an overview of recent advancements in smart irrigation systems. A variety of irrigation system designs are addressed, including solar-powered, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN)-based, and Internet of Things (IoT)-based systems. The authors firmly expect that this research will significantly influence the most recent developments in smart irrigation systems.

Industry 4.0 and the accompanying digital transformation of the modern-day factory have led to various advances in manufacturing. Shop floor management (SFM) - a core instrument of production management - has to align with these digital advances as well. However, due to SFM's strong human-centric roots and manufacturers predominantly conducting SFM through analog means, it raises the question of what sort of digital support should be used for SFM and what specifications should be included in digital SFM systems. This study, consisting of a case study comprising semi-structured interviews and on-site inspections at a large original equipment manufacturer (OEM), provides concrete requirements for digitally-supported SFM derived from practice. We investigated which elements from analog SFM should be retained and where possible improvements through digital support exist. Moreover, we identified definitive improvement potentials such as the aggregation of data sources, as well as the preparation, performance, and documentation of shop floor meetings without disruptions in information flows. We conclude that digital transformation in the SFM context neither implies the mere introduction of software to solve specific problems, nor the full automation of SFM processes through digital solutions (what we call "digital" SFM). Rather, we highlight the importance of "smart SFM": the adoption of sociotechnical systems in which SFM's traditional social characteristics are maintained but are simultaneously sensibly augmented with digital solutions to improve SFM processes. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.. Integration of software-defined Networking (SDN) with traditional networking technologies is crucial due to the increasing demand for network performance. SDN offers a centralized and programmable solution for managing the network, while legacy networking systems provide stability and compatibility with existing infrastructures. However, integrating these two systems often results in suboptimal network performance. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Random Forest (RF) algorithm is suggested in this research as a potential solution to this problem of network performance improvement in SDN-legacy network integration. PSO and RF are metaheuristic algorithms that have been successfully applied to many optimization problems, including network optimization. The proposed solution used PSO to optimize the routing of packets in the SDN-legacy network, resulting in improved network performance and reduced latency. Simulation outcomes demonstrate the success of the proposed solution and show that it outperforms existing solutions in terms of network performance. When the outcomes are contrasted with other field-wide algorithms already in use, it is found that PSO and RF perform better than the competitors. The results show that PSO-RF decreases end-to-end delay and enhance the performance from 99% to 100% compare to other meta-heuristic algorithms.

Solar energy has apparently become the most widespread renewable energy to be utilized as sunlight is almost abundantly available across the globe. Nonetheless, the production of Si solar cells is very costly. Hence, it is important to dig out some nontoxic, environment friendly perovskite materials. Mixed lead halide perovskite as the light-harvesting active layer among organic non-organic solar cells is garnering much attention with PCE (Power Conversion Efficiency) more than 25%, but the toxicity of lead is the main concern. For solving realistic problems with ease, numerical analysis is used as experimenting with different hypothesis becomes convenient. This paper makes use of the Solar cell capacitance simulator software (SCAPS-1D) which is most popular among the research community. SCAPS simulation is performed on non-toxic tin iodide perovskite materials with methylammonium (MA) and formamidinium (FA) as A site materials. Accordingly, the thickness of both the absorber materials is changed to obtain the optimal output characteristics. We have proposed a structure considering the two most important layers, i.e. ETL (Electron Transport Layer) and HTL (Hole Transport Layer) as PCBM (Phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester) and PEDOT:PSS (Polystyrene sulfonate) respectively. With the proposed structure (FTO/PCBM/Perovskite/PEDOT:PSS/Au), we have achieved best PCE of 24.72% with MASNI3 at absorber thickness of 500 nm and 23.20% with FASnI3 at absorber thickness of 1100 nm. This study can thus offer a better understanding for researchers for designing of efficient solar cells. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This paper constructs a multi-dimensional information integration framework based on building information modeling (BIM) technology, aiming to integrate data flows at all stages of the building life cycle and realize efficient information sharing and collaborative management. The framework adopts an improved semantic integration algorithm, and by optimizing data matching rules and semantic parsing models, it effectively improves the compatibility and interaction efficiency between heterogeneous data sources, and solves the problems of data islands, semantic conflicts and inefficiency in the traditional information integration process. In order to verify the actual application effect of the framework, an actual prefabricated building project was selected as a case, and performance tests were carried out in the design data interaction, construction plan integration and operation and maintenance information sharing links. The simulation results show that the framework significantly improves the data interaction speed and the information integration efficiency by about 28%. At the same time, it ensures the consistency of key node data, and the error rate is controlled within 1.5%. In addition, the experiment also shows that in the multi-stage collaborative work scenario, the framework has high stability and scalability, providing an efficient information management solution for prefabricated building projects.

The field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been witnessing a huge demand in the field of research, tools development, and applications of deployment. There are multiple software companies which are shifting their focus to developing AI systems, many are also deploying the AI paradigms to their current system. Correspondingly, the academic research community has also used AI paradigms to solve the traditional software engineering problems. AI has become very useful to the software engineering community. The paper also uses a survey of the most commonplace methods of using AI into the software engineering, that covers the methods for SE phases such as Requirements, Design, Development, Testing, Release, and Maintenance. The paper also aims in answering to the sufficient intelligence in the SE lifecycle, this evaluates the overlapping of the SE and AI domains, and challenge the current conventional wisdom of the state-of-the-art. © 2025 IEEE.

CAD drawing restoration is one of the most urgent needs in industrial manufacturing. The existing research focuses on the digitization of CAD drawings, However, there are actually many problems in digitized CAD drawings due to the upgrading of engineering drafting software, and it is difficult to repair reliably. In this paper, we use multi-modal large language models (MLLMs) to carry out digital CAD drawing restoration, and we use Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology to inject engineering domain knowledge into MLLMs. In addition, a complete set of multiagent systems is constructed to realize restoration in accordance with the CAD drawing review process in the mechanical field. We collected 1,639 CAD drawings of bearing seats to evaluate our multi-agent system, verifying its reliability and robustness to various problematic drawings. Notably, ChatCAD also has a much simpler implementation than alternative methods trained on a huge dataset.

The high back pressure flexible retrofit unit can effectively solve the two major energy loss problems in the heating process of the most commonly used condensing heating unit in China. In actual operation of thermal power plants, high back pressure units and condensing units often participate in heating at the same time, and the load distribution of both directly affects the heating energy saving of thermal power plants. This article focuses on the shortcomings of existing technologies and operational strategies, and studies the calculation method of the heat load bearing ratio of high back pressure units and the scheduling strategy of thermal power plants, which is of great significance for improving the economic efficiency of heating and water-saving in thermal power plants.

Biologically plausible Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), characterized by spike sparsity, are growing tremendous attention over intellectual edge devices and critical bio-medical applications as compared to artificial neural networks (ANNs). However, there is a considerable risk from malicious attempts to extract white-box information (i.e., weights) from SNNs, as attackers could exploit well-trained SNNs for profit and white-box adversarial concerns. There is a dire need for intellectual property (IP) protective measures. In this paper, we present a novel secure software-hardware co-designed RRAM-based neuromorphic accelerator for protecting the IP of SNNs. software-wise, we design a tailored genetic algorithm with classic XOR encryption to target the least number of weights that need encryption. From a hardware perspective, we develop a low-energy decryption module, meticulously designed to provide zero decryption latency. Extensive results from various datasets, including NMNIST, DVSGesture, EEGMMIDB, Braille Letter, and SHD, demonstrate that our proposed method effectively secures SNNs by encrypting a minimal fraction of stealthy weights, only 0.00005% to 0.016% weight bits. Additionally, it achieves a substantial reduction in energy consumption, ranging from ×59 to ×6780, and significantly lowers decryption latency, ranging from ×175 to ×4250. Moreover, our method requires as little as one sample per class in dataset for encryption and addresses hessian/gradient-based search insensitive problems. This strategy offers a highly efficient and flexible solution for securing SNNs in diverse applications1 © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

With the rapid development of automobile industry, automobile steering knuckle is one of the most important parts on automobile steering bridge, therefore, the design of its high-efficiency production process has become the inevitable choice for the development of automobile steering knuckle. In view of the characteristics of automobile steering knuckle, such as complex structure, many machining parts, high machining requirements, difficult positioning and clamping, and large production batch, combined with the actual machining process of automobile steering knuckle, including production line layout and position arrangement, production rhythm and production capacity status quo, discussed and analyzed the production line of our car steering knuckle specific process problems. According to the structure characteristics of automobile steering knuckle, the machining technology scheme is worked out, and the machining positioning datum, part clamping scheme and balance analysis are given. Based on the Quest platform, the simulation test of maximizing the machining efficiency and optimizing the man-hour configuration is carried out, and the simulation results are analyzed and evaluated, the validity of the research is proved. Finally, the optimal process plan of the automobile steering knuckle is given, which is helpful to the reference design of the machining process. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
