This paper introduces an experimental simulation language for research and education in discrete-event simulationmodeling using the object-oriented and process oriented approaches. The Object Oriented simulation Language (OOSimL) was developed mainly for students of computer science, software engineering, and related disciplines, the language emphasizes object oriented modeling and programming, multi-threading, and promotes an early introduction to simulation in the curricula. It's design was influenced by Simula, Eiffel, Java, C++, and the Demos simulation package. The development of the OOSimL language was supported in part by an NSF CPATH grant. The language can be used to support further research in simulation languages, as a base for developing simulationmodeling Specification Languages for relevant family of systems, higher-level DEVS support, more advanced Cellular and Component simulationmodeling, the next generation of Distributed and Parallel simulation Languages, and other related areas of research. Several Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) can be used with the OOSimL language. Currently, we use two different IDEs: jGRASP and Eclipse. This paper includes an overview of essential simulation concepts, the main features of the OOSimL language, and an example of a simulation model developed with OOSimL.

Our research on employing the cellular automata methodology to corrosion and passivation phenomena is reviewed. Examples of a peculiar pit development are found and presented. The diffusion rate in the corroding medium is argued and shown in the simulation results to affect mainly the characteristic length scale for the corrosion process. New data for the pitting corrosion development on a planar interface are presented and discussed.

This paper proposes a model structure based on "mathematical model and solid model" and a simulation algorithm based on SPICE (simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) for virtual experiment system. In this model, the virtual experiment simulates real experiment via abstracting experiment scenes, instrument objects and element objects from actual experiment and constructing mathematical and solid model with object-oriented method. And familiar modeling methods and technologies are discussed in detail. In the simulation algorithm, SPICE is redeveloped and imbedded in the multimedia interface as simulating kernel, which succeeds in solving integration of simulation technology and multimedia technology. In the paper, an application example is also given. Test results show that the virtual experiment system achieves excellent performance in designability, arbitrariness of operation and interaction with sense of reality, which makes users operate it with great interest just like doing real experiments and gains good effect in experiment teaching.

This paper presents the experiences using a commercial full system simulation platform - Simics - in a graduate Chip Multiprocessors class. The Simics platform enables students and researchers to do research on computer architecture, operating systems, and hardware/software co-simulation. It provides the ability to simulate machines that are not physically available. This platform has been used in Chip Multiprocessors course to help graduate and undergraduate students in related areas. This course deals with both hardware and software issues in Chip Multiprocessors, and concludes with a team project at the end of the semester.
