Semantic hashing is an effective technique for large-scale information retrieval. Currently, some methods have suggested learning high-quality binary hash codes of documents by leveraging both document contents and neighborhood information. However, it is found that erroneous connections often exist in the provided neighborhood information, but were never taken into account in these models. To alleviate their negative impacts on hash code learning, we first build a basic generative model to simultaneously model the document content and neighborhood. Then, we show that the basic generative model can be placed under a more general framework, dubbed mutual-information (MI) preserving variational auto-encoder (VAE). Capitalizing on this connection, a new hashing method that can tolerate the noisy characteristic of the neighborhood information is further developed by proposing a novel fault-tolerant lower bound for MI. Extensive experiments are conducted on six real-world datasets, and significant performance gains are observed over current state-of-the-art models.

The complex nature of compliance with industry regulations, along with the increasing requirements for Product Change Notifications (PCNs) and managing product complexity, poses challenges for component manufacturers and machine builders in the engineering phase of product development working with up-to-date Digital Twin (DT) data. This situation leads to delays, potential compliance issues, and inefficiencies. Main reasons are the lack of interoperability PCNs, poor data quality, and the absence of direct traceability and tracking of product changes. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a solution approach that involves utilizing a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system and the Asset Administration Shell (AAS). Their design and mutual adjustment enhance collaboration, improve data quality, enable traceability, and finally, increase efficiency within engineering processes. The paper presents first results of a prototype implementation and outlines the next steps of the overarching research project.

Digital twins (DTs) facilitate today's product management and digitalized production. Throughout the design, engineering, manufacturing and operation of products, DTdata needs to be exchanged. The lack of interoperability, especially in the context of cross-company data exchange, is a major challenge that hinders the effective use of DT data, starting in the early lifecycle phases. To tackle this challenge, this paper presents an Asset Administration Shell (AAS) solution that enables the creation, provision, integration, and use of cross-company digital twin data throughout the entire product lifecycle, with a particular focus on the design and engineering phase. The exchange mechanism ensures interoperability of digital twin data, starting from the generation, design and engineering phase, and thus building the data basis for all subsequent lifecycle phases, such as manufacturing or operation. The AAS implementation lays ground for overarching all product lifecycle stages and thus meets semantic, technical and organizational interoperability challenges. This paper details the overarching research problem and the design science-based methodology, before providing insight into the results of the initial design cycle.
