An Internal Model based Sliding Mode controller is proposed to compensate the slow response due to thermal sensor for variations in flow rate of gas. The Mass flow system is approximated to a third order dynamic model. Simulation is performed for control based on Estimated flow rate using Proportional Integral controller and control based on Sensed flow rate using RST and Internal Model Sliding Mode controller. Performance of the proposed Internal Model Sliding Mode controller is compared with Proportional Integral and RST controllers using the performance measure RMSE(Root Mean Square Error). The proposed Internal model Sliding Mode controller yields excellent robustness and the simulation results show the feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Stable and controlled temperature is a very important parameter for most of the chemical process. The temperature of a chemical processes can be controlled using a heat exchanger. Most commonly used heat exchanger used in industries is shell and tube heat exchanger. In this paper, we present a model for shell and tube heat exchanger using Predictive Functional control (PFC). The approximation of the heat exchanger model is obtained through a discrete time system, where the discrete time system has specific sampling time. The entire system includes the measurement noise and input noise. The proposed PFC model controls the temperature of shell and tube heat exchanger using one degree of freedom control. The proposed model is subjected to various test conditions. Various parameters like dead time, constraints on input and output have been optimized. The performance of the proposed model is validated quantitatively as well as graphically to show its efficacy.

A simple decentralized power control algorithm for communication systems with mobile users and unknown nonlinear and time-varying link gains is proposed and studied. We prove that the proposed algorithm is exponentially converging. Furthermore, we show that the algorithm significantly outperforms the well-known Foschini and Miljanic algorithm in the case of quickly moving mobile users.
