In the enterprise context, an important amount of information is stored in relational databases. Therefore, relational database can be a rich source to extract social network. Moreover, it is not very suitable to present and store a social network. On the other hand, a graph database canmodel data in natural way and facilitates the query of data using graph operations. In this way, we propose a social network extraction approach from relational, and present mechanisms for transforming relational database into graph databases.

We present a data quality manager (DQM) prototype providing information regarding the elements of derived non-atomic data values. Users are able to make effective decisions by trusting data according to the description of the conflict resolution function that was utilized for fusing data along with the quality properties of data ancestor. The assessment and ranking of non-atomic data is possible by the specification of quality properties and priorities from users at any level of experience.

While Linked Open data (LOD) has gained much attention in the recent years, requirements and the challenges concerning its usage from a database perspective are lacking. We argue that such a perspective is crucial for increasing acceptance of LOD. In this paper, we compare the characteristics and constraints of relational databases with LOD, trying to understand the latter as a Web-scale database. We propose LOD-specific requirements beyond the established database rules and highlight research challenges, aiming to combine future efforts of the database research community and the Linked data research community in this area.

Several real applications need to manage fuzzy information. Among the languages proposed for this type of data, the Fuzzy SQL (FSQL) language had a great success, seen its great power of modeling and it's an extension of the well-known SQL language. In this paper, we propose an alternative for FCM algorithm For Fuzzy database describe with FSQL. The conventional fuzzy clustering algorithms form fuzzy clusters so as to minimize the total distance from cluster centers to data points. However, they cannot be applied in the case where the data vectors are described with FSQL is given. To concretize our approach we used the BDRF described with the GEFRED model, which is supporting the FSQL language.

Many queries about real databases have a particular form, e.g., the negated part consists of one single literal or they contain just a single binary relation, etc. For a particular class of queries, it is useful to construct algorithms for the containment problem, that are better than those for the whole class of queries. The paper is about the problem of query containment for conjunctive queries with safe negation property. A new algorithm to test the containment problem of two queries is given. Several aspects of the time complexity for the proposed algorithm are specified. From this point of view, the new algorithm proves to be better than the previous for some classes of queries.

With growing science and technology in manufacturing industry, an electronic database as grown in a diverse manner. In order to maintain, organizing and analyzing application-driven databases, a systematic approach of data analysis is essential. The most succeeded approach for handling these problems is through advanced database technologies and data mining approach. Building the database with advance technology and incorporating data mining aspect to mine the hidden knowledge for a specific application is the recent and advanced data mining application in the computer application domain. Here in this article, association rule analysis of data mining concepts is investigated on engineering materials database built with UML data modeling technology to extract application-driven knowledge useful for decision making in different design domain applications.

The article explores the optimization of queries using genetic algorithms and compares it with the conventional query optimization component. Genetic algorithms (GAs), as a data mining technique, have been shown to be a promising technique in solving the ordering of join operations in large join queries. In practice, a genetic algorithm has been implemented in the PostgreSQL database system. Using this implementation, we compare the conventional component for an exhaustive search with the corresponding module based on a genetic algorithm. Our results show that the use of a genetic algorithm is a viable solution for optimization of large join queries, i.e., that the use of such a module outperforms the conventional query optimization component for queries with more than 12 join operations.

This paper presents a graphical approach to model XML documents based on a data Type Documentation called Graphical Notations-data Type Documentation (GN-DTD). GN-DTD allows us to capture syntax and semantic of XML documents in a simple way but precise. Using various notations, the important features of XML documents such as elements, attributes, relationship, hierarchical structure, cardinality, sequence and disjunction between elements or attribute are visualize clearly at the schema level. We believe, by having GN-DTD as tool, helps the user to arrange the content of XML documents in order to give a better undertanding of DTD structures, to improve XML design and normalization process. In this paper we presented also the transformation rules to convert from GN-DTD to DTD.

Fast response to userspsila query and update requests continues to be one of the key requirements for OLAP systems. We outline the generalization of a space-efficient data structure, which makes it particularly suited for cubes with hierarchically structured dimensions. For a large class of range-sum queries - roll-up and drill-down along dimension hierarchies - the structure requires only a constant number of cell accesses per query on average, while offering an expected poly-logarithmic update performance.

Extracting knowledge out of qualitative data is an ever-growing issue in our networking world. Opposite to the widespread trend consisting of extending general classification methods to zero/one-valued qualitative variables, we explore here another path: we first build a specific representation for these data, respectful of the non-occurrence as well as presence of an item, and making the interactions between variables explicit. Combinatorics considerations in our Midova expansion method limit the proliferation of itemsets when building level k+1 on level k, and limit the maximal level K. We validate our approach on three of the public access datasets of University of California, Irvine, repository: our generalization accuracy is equal or better than the best reported one, to our knowledge, on Breast Cancer and TicTacToe datasets, honorable on Monks-2 near-parity problem.
