User-Item (U-I) matrix has been used as the dominant data infrastructure of Collaborative Filtering (CF). To reduce space consumption in runtime and storage, caused by data sparsity and growing need to accommodate side information in CF design, one needs to go beyond the U-I Matrix. In this paper, we took a case study of Succinct Representations in Collaborative Filtering, rather than using a U-I Matrix. Our key insight is to introduce Succinct Data Structures as a new infrastructure of CF. Towards this, we implemented a User-based K-Nearest-Neighbor CF prototype via Wavelet Tree, by first designing a Accessible Compressed Documents (ACD) to compress U-I data in Wavelet Tree, which is efficient in both storage and runtime. Then, we showed that ACD can be applied to develop an efficient intersection algorithm without decompression, by taking advantage of ACD's characteristics. We evaluated our design on 1,000 cores of Tianhe-II supercomputer, with one of the largest public data set ml-20m. The results showed that our prototype could achieve 3.7 minutes on average to deliver the results. © 2019 IEEE.

In the face of rapid globalization, the concept of translation performs the most important role in continuing the existence of native languages. Most of the research on Natural Language Processing in Neural Machine Translation has achieved an impressive result through parallel corpus dataset. Low resourced languages confront low performance due to the lack of parallel corpus data. Creating parallel corpus for language pair is more expensive and needs the persons who are expert knowledge for both languages. In this research, we present the availability of developing the translator for Sinhala-Tamil languages pair using monolingual corpus dataset. In this paper, the Byte Pair Encoding (BPE) is applied for overcoming the Out-Of-Vocabulary (OOV) problem in both Sinhala and Tamil languages. Our first part of the research is using monolingual word embedding approach for developing the translation in between Sinhala-Tamil language pair only using monolingual corpora. The second part of the research we use both parallel and monolingual corpus data with transformer architecture. The BLEU score and the synonyms analysis are used to evaluate the approach we suggested.

A typical scenario in a stream data-flow processing engine is that users submit continues queries in order to receive the computational result once a new stream of data arrives. The focus of the paper is to design a dynamic CPU cap controller for stream data-flow applications with real-time constraints, in which the result of computations must be available within a short time period, specified by the user, once a recent update in the input data occurs. It is common that the stream data-flow processing engine is deployed over a cluster of dedicated or virtualized server nodes, e.g., Cloud or Edge platform, to achieve a faster data processing. However, the attributes of incoming stream data-flow might fluctuate in an irregular way. To effectively cope with such unpredictable conditions, the underlying resource manager needs to be equipped with a dynamic resource provisioning mechanism to ensure the real-time requirements of different applications. The proposed solution uses control theory principals to achieve a good utilization of computing resources and a reduced average response time. The proposed algorithm dynamically adjusts the required quality of service (QoS) in an environment when multiple stream & data-flow processing applications concurrently run with unknown and volatile workloads. Our study confirms that such a unpredictable demand can negatively degrade the system performance, mainly due to adverse interference in the utilization of shared resources. Unlike prior research studies which assumes a static or zero correlation among the performance variability among consolidated applications, we presume the prevalence of shared-resource interference among collocated applications as a key performance-limiting parameter and confront it in scenarios where several applications have different QoS requirements with unpredictable workload demands. Many applications running on parallel processors and accelerators are bandwidth bound. In this work, we explore the benefits of parallel (scratch-pad) memories to further accelerate such applications. To this end, we propose a comprehensive approach to designing and implementing application-centric parallel memories based on the polymorphic memory-model called PolyMem. Our approach enables the acceleration of a memory-bound region of an application by (1) analyzing the memory access to extract parallel accesses, (2) configuring PolyMem to deliver maximum speed-up for the detected accesses, and (3) building an actual FPGA-based parallel-memory accelerator for this region, with predictable performance. We validate our approach on 10 instances of Sparse-STREAM (a STREAM benchmark adaptation with sparse memory accesses), for which we design and benchmark the corresponding parallel-memory accelerators in hardware. Our results demonstrate that building parallel-memory accelerators is feasible and leads to performance gain, but their efficient integration in heterogeneous platforms remains a challenge.

In electrical distribution system, nonlinear loads draw reactive power and / or undesired harmonic currents from ac source along with the fundamental current. Various power quality compensators are being considered as potential candidate for solving such power quality problems not only in ideal supply but also in distorted supply conditions. This paper presents a new method for harmonic and reactive power compensation using a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm for parallel Hybrid Active Power Filter (HAPF) for power quality improvement under dynamic loading and non-ideal mains conditions. The PSO comprises two similar swarm group (swarm size-25), and it has been designed to extract fundamental frequency components from non-sinusoidal and unbalanced currents instead of conventional low pass filter. The reactive power compensation is done without sensing load currents, which gives simplicity in control with less number of current sensors. The performance of the parallel HAPF with the proposed particle swarm optimization compensation algorithm is found to be considerably effective and adequate to compensate harmonics and reactive power. The experimental results show excellent behavior of PSO based controller and performances of parallel HAPF under various load conditions. © Grenze Scientific Society, 2019.

Writer Identification (WI) based on handwriting is an amazing application under the wide spectrum of machine learning and document based identification and recognition. Its most acknowledged applications include forgery detection, investigating forensic crimes and resolving other suspects. This paper is concerned with the development of WIS based on the handwritten text in Gurumukhi script. Through this paper, authors presented a contemporary and experimental move in Gurumukhi script, its framework, characteristics of handwriting modality, differences between writer identification and verification, text independent and text dependent systems, script dependent V s script independent, character set of Gurumukhi script, latest survey on WIS based on offline handwritten text in Gurumukhi (Punjabi) script and experimental findings. A dataset of 100 writers i.e. 100 x53 x 10=53000 Gurumukhi characters has been taken for the experimental study. Feature extraction techniques such as Zoning, Transition, Diagonal and Peak Extent based were used and for the classification part Multi Layered Perceptron (MLP), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), and Random Forest (RF) classifiers were implemented. The proposed experiment reported 93.06% writer identification accuracy rates along with performance evaluation metrics with 93.2% True Positive Rate (TPR) and 0.39% False Positive Rate (FPR). The reported result outperforms in comparison to the literature survey and also poses futuristic and upcoming directions to the researchers such as age, gender, handedness, physiological autopsy, personality, stress and even nationality identification based on handwriting.

Applications like Big Data, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and even other Engineering and Scientific research requires a lot of computing power;making High-Performance computing (HPC) an important field. But access to Supercomputers is out of range from the majority. Nowadays Supercomputers are actually clusters of computers usually made-up of commodity hardware. Such clusters are called Beowulf Clusters. The history of which goes back to 1994 when NASA built a Supercomputer by creating a cluster of commodity hardware. In recent times a lot of effort has been done in making HPC Clusters of even single board computers (SBCs). Although the creation of clusters of commodity hardware is possible but is a cumbersome task. Moreover, the maintenance of such systems is also difficult and requires special expertise and time. The concept of cloud is to provide on-demand resources that can be services, platform or even infrastructure and this is done by sharing a big resource pool. Cloud computing has resolved problems like maintenance of hardware and requirement of having expertise in networking etc. An effort is made of bringing concepts from cloud computing to HPC in order to get benefits of cloud. The main target is to create a system which can develop a capability of providing computing power as a service which to further be referred to as Supercomputer as a service. Static random access memory (SRAM) on field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) can be emulated to offer ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) functionality. However, SRAM-based TCAM wastes storage resources. This is due to the limited capacity of the physical addresses in the SRAM unit. This work proposes a LUTRAM-based TACM scheme on the FPGA called Memory-Efficient TCAM (ME-TCAM). METCAM divides SRAM unit into multiple virtual blocks mapping to a portion of the TCAM table to store the more address information of the TCAM table. Operation on SRAM block means that increasing the overall emulated TCAM bits/SRAM. Moreover, ME-TCAM exploits Xilinx primitives to conFigure lookup tables (LUTs) as 32 × 2 lookup table RAMs (LUTRAMs). We implement ME-TCAM using LUTRAM with a size of 512 × 48 and 1024 × 144 on a Virtex-7 FPGA device. Compared with the state-of-the-art research DUR, ME-TCAM achieves at least 2.6 times more memory efficiency.

In today's world with ever increasing amount of text assets overloaded on web with digitized libraries, sorting out these documents got developed into a feasible need. Document clustering is an important procedure which consequently sorts out huge number of articles into a modest number of balanced gatherings. Document clustering is making groups of similar documents into number of clusters such that documents within the same group with high similarity values among one another and dissimilar to documents from other clusters. Common applications of document Clustering includes grouping similar news articles, analysis of customer feedback, text mining, duplicate content detection, finding similar documents, search optimization and many more. This lead to utilization of these documents for finding required information in a competent and efficient manner. Document clustering required a measurement for evaluating how surprising two given information are. This dissimilarity is often estimated by using some distance measures, for example, Cosine Similarity, Euclidean distance, etc. In our work, we evaluated and analyzed how effective these measures are in partitioned clustering for text document datasets. In our experiments we have used standard K-means algorithm and our results details on six text documents datasets and five most commonly used distance or similarity measures in text clustering.
