Non-intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) represents a cost-efficient technological advancement in meticulously monitoring electricity consumption patterns. However, external noise interference in practical load identification poses challenges for accurate monitoring. To address this, a multi-task learning framework is proposed, concurrently tackling load identification and signal de-noising. To extract effective information from load signals, a novel feature representation called variational mode decomposition-instantaneous amplitude (VMD-IA) was introduced. To ensure optimal performance across the different tasks, a multi-gate mixture of expert architecture (MMOE) module is integrated into the proposed model. The proposed approach was evaluated on a self-collected load dataset, as well as public NILM datasets. The experimental results indicate that the proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art methods in all tasks. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT)-powered black box for advanced driver behavior analysis and vehicle safety is a revolutionary strategy for improving driver behavior and road safety via the use of black boxes powered by the Internet of Things. This project captures realtime data on driving behavior, encompassing characteristics such as speed, acceleration, braking, and adherence to lanes via the seamless integration of IoT technologies into the vehicle's black box. It does this by providing in-depth insights into drivers' behaviors, which encourages adopting safe driving practices thanks to the advanced data analytics it employs. In addition to its behavior monitoring capabilities, the IoT-driven black box enhances the vehicle's safety by including collision detection technologies. If an accident occurs, the system immediately sends an alert, communicating the severity of the collision and the exact GPS locations to the emergency services, which speeds up the process of responding to the incident. This attempt combines cutting-edge Internet of Things capabilities with vehicle safety to develop responsible driving behaviors and, eventually, a safer highway environment for all parties involved. This invention can modify driving norms thanks to its comprehensive approach, highlighting the potential of technology-driven solutions in promoting safer roadways. © 2024 IEEE.

Spam messages are increasingly becoming a major issue in digital communication, creating significant challenges for both users and organizations. With the rise in text-based interactions, especially in low-resource languages like Bangla-English SMS, there is a growing need for more effective spam detection systems. This paper presents BESpam, a unique bilingual dataset that contains 5,730 Bangla-English SMS messages, specifically designed to address this challenge. In the literature, various machine learning and deep learning techniques align with feature extraction techniques from natural language processing used for spam SMS detection. Still, no studies have been found that focus on comparing deep and machine learning approaches. As a further contribution, we propose an ensemble model that combines advanced transformer architectures with FastText to improve the accuracy of spam classification. Our results demonstrate that this ensemble approach outperforms both traditional machine learning models and individual transformer-based methods. The stacking ensemble achieved an accuracy of 99%, exceeding the performance of standalone models such as mBERT (98%) and XLM-RoBERTa (98%), as well as traditional classifiers such as logistic regression and SVM, both of which also scored 98%. This work provides insight analysis of machine learning and deep learning in terms of bilingual SMS spam detection, in addition to advancing spam detection methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents an autonomous task planning method for multiple collecting robots on improved genetic algorithm. Considering the limited capacity of collecting robots and the suitability of hopping robots in the microgravity environment of small celestial bodies, we developed a task planning model based on the Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem (CVRP) and proposed an improved genetic algorithm to simultaneously allocate tasks and plan paths for multiple collecting robots. During robot movement, the A ∗ algorithm is employed for active obstacle avoidance when unknown obstacles are encountered. Experimental results demonstrated that our algorithm, can efficiently allocate tasks for the robot group, and each robot actively avoiding obstacles during movement. © 2024 IEEE.

Research on multi-label classification has developed from traditional single-modal analysis to complex classification using multiple modalities. However, single-modal input models are insufficient for effectively analyzing the increasingly rich multi-modal data on the Internet. Therefore, a ResNeXt-Bert method is proposed: introducing models for image and text information input to overcome the limitations of single-modal input data. The ResNeXt is used to extract features of images, and contextual embedding is input using early fusion method, and then fed into a pre-trained multi-layer bidirectional Transformer encoder model for classification. On the MM-IMDB dataset for studying multi-label classification problems, the micro F1 value reached 64.7%, which is better than other models. The experimental results show that introducing image and text information can indeed improve the multi-label text classification ability of the model. © 2023 IEEE.

As mobile robotics continues to advance, the need for adequate surveillance in robotic environments is becoming increasingly important. Detecting suspicious objects in sensitive areas using mobile robots is challenging due to the limited computational resources available on these devices. This paper describes a new system for automatically detecting weapons in real-time video footage designed for low-computing devices in mobile robots. We present a novel weapon detection model that aims to balance the trade-off between inference time and detection accuracy, making it a lightweight model compared to existing models. The proposed model is trained and tested on existing benchmark datasets. The model is compared to existing lightweight weapon detection models to determine its suitability for low-computing devices. We obtain the mAP of 90.3%, 85.13% and 92.38% for the IITP_W, Handgun and Sohas datasets, respectively. The results outperforming the well-known PicoDet model. We envisage that the proposed model could be a useful tool for surveillance using mobile robots during events such as riots and anti-terrorist operations. © 2023 ACM.

Photovoltaic (PV) cells can transform solar energy into electrical energy. However, variations in light intensity and the changing position of the sun typically compromise their efficiency. Fixed solar panels experience reduced efficiency when not correctly oriented with the sun, resulting in decreased power generation. To optimize efficiency, it is necessary to implement a tracking system that ensures the panels remain aligned toward the sun. To achieve this objective, a prototype dual-axis solar tracking system was developed. This system utilizes Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) sensors and is controlled by an Arduino UNO microcontroller. It enables movement in both vertical and horizontal directions. Four Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs) and two servo motors enable the panels to track sunlight, achieving ideal orientation. Performance monitoring is achieved by integrating the system with the ThingSpeak IoT platform using the Node MCU ESP8266. This integration allows for the tracking of energy data obtained from the sensors. Compared to a fixed-axis device, the dual-axis tracker demonstrated a 21.83% increase in efficiency. A real-time monitoring system offers a practical means to assess the operation of the solar tracker. © 2024 IEEE.

As robotics technology advances, quadruped robots are increasingly instrumental in diverse applications, including rescue operations and healthcare. However, the intricate operating conditions expose the components within the joint modules of these robots to alternating and impact loads. Consequently, research into signal processing and fault diagnosis techniques for planetary gearboxes in joint modules holds significant engineering importance. Given the challenges associated with fault signal extraction from planetary gearboxes, this study proposes a novel fault feature extraction method based on Time-Dependent Intrinsic Correlation (TDIC), integrated with a random forest classifier for fault classification. This approach leverages signal frequency analysis to adaptively extract segments characterized by high correlation among different physical field signals as fault features. The random forest model is utilized for fault classification and its performance is compared against CNN, KNN, and XGBoost models. Experimental results validate the superior fault classification efficacy of the proposed method. © 2024 IEEE.

In today's society, when the internet is pervasive, everyone gets their news from a variety of online sources. Information can swiftly reach millions of users in a short amount of time due to the growing usage of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and others. Fake news has far-reaching effects, ranging from swaying election outcomes in favor of particular politicians to fostering prejudiced viewpoints. The primary platforms for disseminating fake news are Instagram, WhatsApp, and numerous other social media platforms. By presenting a machine learning-based fake news detection algorithm, this work provides a remedy. This model needs fictitious data that was gathered from multiple information sources. Data is extracted using web analytics, which is mostly used to build datasets. Real data sets and fake data sets are the two primary categories into which the data is separated. Random forest, logistic regression, decision trees, KNN, and gradient boosting are the classifiers used to classify the data. The data is categorized as true or false data based on the version that was received. The user will be able to determine whether or not the information on the website is fraudulent based on this. © 2024 IEEE.
