Since the period of the slow sampling output channel of a multi-rate system is not synchronised with the period of the input channel, it makis difficult to achieve feedback control. To address such problems, a model predictive control strategy is proposed for slow sampling systems. Firstly, a radial basis function interpolation prediction method is proposed for the output value at non-sampling moments; secondly, a control strategy is proposed to predict the actual output value with the model prediction value and correct the output prediction value by using the actual prediction error information obtained at that output sampling moment, so as to solve the problem that the period of the slow-sampling output channel of the multi-rate system is not synchronised with the period of the input channel. Finally, the above control strategy is implemented in a heavy oil distillation tower system, and the practical effectiveness and wide applicability of the control strategy are comprehensively examined by changing the slow sampling period and the degree of model mismatch.

In order to solve the problems of high dependency and low flexibility caused by calling three-party services during simulation and experiments, this paper uses the NCSLab (Networked control System Laboratory) as an application platform to implement the functions of multiple ordinary differential equation solvers, which are used for real-time simulation and experimentation of control algorithm. This paper mainly integrates the common ordinary differential equation solving methods and NCSLab platform, and verifies the support of NCSLab platform for different solving methods through the actual simulation process.

This paper presents a methodology and algorithm for solving the problem of finding optimal modes for organizing continuous polymer synthesis processes. Due to the high dimensionality of the parameter space, the large number of local solutions, and the nonlinear nature of the mathematical description, a genetic algorithm is proposed for solving optimization problems. The algorithm's software implementation enables optimization tasks to be solved for various efficiency criteria. To validate this approach, a computational experiment was conducted aimed at finding the optimal mode for the copolymerization process of butadiene with styrene. A kinetic modeling approach was employed for the mathematical description of this process. The software implementation of the proposed genetic algorithm and a series of computational trials allowed for the establishment of a two-point regulation mode of molecular mass, which contributed to maintaining the product's intrinsic viscosity value while increasing conversion to 82%. The study results demonstrated that altering the mode of regulator additive supply helps achieve the specified efficiency criterion and is a key factor in controlling continuous polymer synthesis processes.

For nonlinear interconnected systems against input delay, an observer-based fuzzy adaptive decentralized control strategy is designed. First, different from traditional observers, a novel state observer based on tracking error is proposed to estimate unknown states for the interconnected systems. Secondly, a compensation signal is added to handle the time-varying input delay. Then, the dynamic surface control techniques are utilized in the backstepping approach to overcome the “explosion of complex” problems. Meanwhile, through designed schemes, all variables in the closed-loop systems are promised to be bounded. The errors converge into bounded compact set around the origin. The effectiveness of the designed scheme is validated via a simulation example.

In the context of the rapid evolution of autonomous driving technology, the deployment of autonomous vehicle systems has witnessed significant expansion, underscoring the paramount importance of their path planning capabilities. This study proposes an improved Q-learning, specifically designed for the path planning of autonomous vehicles. Initially, the algorithm is enhanced with an advanced artificial potential field method for initializing the Q-table, thereby integrating prior knowledge and increasing the efficiency of the initial iterations. Further, the integration of eligibility traces as a memory mechanism within the algorithm ensures the prolonged influence of state-action pairs throughout the iterative process, thus boosting learning efficiency. Additionally, this paper introduces a dynamic λ adjustment strategy, tailored to meet the exploratory demands of autonomous vehicles and based on the simulated annealing algorithm. This strategy dynamically modulates the decay factor λ in accordance with the frequency of successful arrivals at the destinations, promoting more effective adaptation to varying environmental conditions. The empirical findings confirm the efficacy of the proposed Q-learning, particularly highlighting its utility in the path planning for autonomous vehicles. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) can realize the resource, harmlessness and reduction of municipal solid waste (MSW), which is a very effective method of MSW treatment. The furnace temperature is crucial for this process, ensuring complete breakdown of harmful substances and stable operation. The mechanism of MSWI is complex, and there are many variables and uncertain factors. In order to improve the accuracy of the furnace temperature model, the Light Gradient Boosting Machine (LightGBM) is used to model the furnace temperature with Bayesian Optimization (BO) for model's hyperparameter tuning. The results indicate a substantial enhancement in the accuracy of the furnace temperature model based on LightGBM optimized by BO.

This paper proposes a model predictive fault-tolerant control (MPFTC) for dual-three phase permanent magnet synchronous machines (DT-PMSMs) operating under open-phase faults. The method utilizes a model predictive control (MPC) algorithm to predict both current magnitudes and phase angles, thereby enhancing its capability to address multi-constraint problems. By decomposing the faulty currents into positive and negative sequences, the adverse effect produced by the negative sequence currents can be eliminated using the proposed MPFTC. Simulation results verify the validity of the proposed multireference-frame based model predictive fault-tolerant control for DT -PMSMs.

The article discusses the issues and outlines ways to address them related to the early stage of any design, the selection of the layout of the final product. When selecting the layout of a future machine, the designer often relies on previous experience. The designer may take as a basis the layout of a similar machine. The specifics and possibilities of production, company traditions, the need to select a layout for an original machine can all make the designer's task quite complex. It should be taken into account that the earlier the stage of the product design life cycle, the more fatal are the consequences of making a mistake and the more difficult it is to correct it afterwards. It is assumed that there already exists a system of automated synthesis of technological equipment layouts, which automatically generates formalized codes of future layouts. There, the code feasibility parameters and code compliance with real layouts are taken into account. In order to reduce the volume of obtained layout solutions and to reduce the array of codes corresponding to them, filters are built into the synthesis system, realized on the basis of the knowledge base about the design features of the technological process being implemented. The rules given in the article are the basis of the knowledge base that allows organizing automatic screening of unfavorable variants.

Evaluating and selecting alternative solutions are multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. Indicator systems are critical for MCDM problems because they significantly impact the MCDM method selection and final decision-making results. However, the existing methods for constructing indicator systems need more rationality and better operability, especially in complicated MCDM problems with numerous indicators and complex structures. This paper presents a hybrid methodological approach for constructing indicator systems using Total Interpretive Structural modeling (TISM) and Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) methods. The TISM method is used for the structural analysis of evaluation systems, and the GRA method is used for the quantitative analysis of group consensus. Furthermore, the corresponding iterative algorithm is developed to promote the rationality and operability of indicator system construction. Finally, a case study of constructing a shipequipment environmental suitability indicator system is examined to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness. The results reveal that the proposed method improves the rationality and operability of indicator system construction and is suitable for complicated MCDM problems with numerous indicators and complex structures.

The development of digital twins (DTs) of industrial electrical systems is attributed to the need for the reduction of time and material resource inputs during their virtual commissioning (VC). The same problem occurs during renovation with complete or partial equipment replacement and/or control systems. These problems can be efficiently solved by developing object-oriented DTs based on the Simulink Real Time software and using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HIL). This software is compatible with Matlab Simulink and the Simscape package, which makes it suitable for the industrial usage. The authors suggest a HIL-based approach that helps make a virtual real-time computer model, with process control signals coming from the industrial PLC that controls the real physical object. This problem occurred during the renovation of the horizontal stand electric drives of a 5000 plate mill. The authors provide the flow charts of the electromechanical system and the object-oriented DT. The implementation of DT in Matlab Simulink Desktop Real Time is reviewed in laboratory settings. The authors present the block structures that make up a virtual model of the electromechanical system. The developed DT was used to adjust control algorithms and controllers and study the dynamic modes over a rolling cycle. The adequacy of the processes was tested by comparing the oscillograms obtained with the developed DT and the rolling mill. The authors stress the feasibility of developing DTs on the Simulink Real Time platform using HIL simulation during VC and renovation of complex industrial objects.
