Mammalian locomotion is a complex behavior arising from interaction between neural and biomechanical systems, driven by rhythmic activity originating in the spinal cord. Although it has been extensively studied, the structure of the circuits that produce this behavior remains unknown. One approach to modeling the rhythmic activity is with half-center models, in which there are alternating periods of flexion and extension to coordinate muscle activity. While this approach is sufficient for simple antagonistic muscle pairs, it can be difficult to expand the controller for more complex models with muscle synergies. This work introduces a method of modeling the activity in the spinal cord with a population of neurons exhibiting a continuous cycle of activity, rather than the push-pull of half-centers. To evaluate the effectiveness of this neural model for locomotive behavior, we integrate it with a biomechanical simulation to control the muscle activity in a pair of rat hindlimbs. With this controller, a pair of simulated rat hindlimbs is able to walk on the ground with joint trajectories exhibiting similar features to the animal during locomotion. This model of the spinal cord activity shows promising results on a simple model and demonstrates the ability to be adapted to control more complex biomechanical models with muscle synergies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Number of engineering systems can be characterized as complex since they have a dynamic and nonlinear behaviour incorporating a stochastic uncertainty. On the other hand, as a machine learning method, Gaussian processes (GP) provide a practical, probabilistic approach to learning in kernel machines. This makes them very suitable for obtaining probabilistic, nonparametric black-box models of stochastic nonlinear dynamic systems. In this paper, a novel study on the modeling and adaptive optimal control of a tubular reactor is made by using Gaussian processes. Such reactor is a typical example of a nonlinear distributed parameters system, whose first-principles dynamic models consists of partial differential equations. The purpose is to obtain a nonlinear autoregressive models with exogenous input (NARX) of the output concentration and temperature of the reactor by applying a GP modeling approach. The identified surrogate models are then used to design an adaptive model predictive controller to achieve optimal performance of the reactor despite of the stochastic changes in the feed temperature. This paper introduces NeuroPhysNet, a novel hybrid neural network architecture designed for enhanced prediction and control of cyber-physical systems (CPS). The increasing complexity and dynamic nature of CPS present significant challenges in modeling and control, often stretching the limits of traditional approaches. NeuroPhysNet addresses these challenges by seamlessly integrating deep learning techniques with physics-based modeling, offering a robust framework that leverages both data-driven insights and domain-specific knowledge. The architecture comprises three main components: a Deep Neural Network (DNN) module for capturing complex non-linear relationships, a Physical Model Integration (PMI) module for incorporating domain-specific equations, and an Adaptive Fusion (AF) module for dynamically combining outputs based on current system states. We evaluate NeuroPhysNet across multiple CPS domains, including smart grid energy management, autonomous vehicle control, and industrial process control. Results demonstrate significant improvements in prediction accuracy, physical consistency, and generalization capabilities compared to state-of-the-art baseline models. NeuroPhysNet achieves up to 15% improvement in mean squared error and a 20% increase in physical consistency scores across tested domains. This research contributes to the growing field of physics-informed machine learning, offering a versatile approach for enhancing the performance and reliability of complex cyber-physical systems. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The modular multilevel matrix converter (M3C) is suitable for high-voltage and high-capacity AC/AC conversion due to its modular characteristics and easy expansion. However, the M3C topology has problems such as complex hardware circuits, mutual coupling of input and output frequencies, and special operating points, making it difficult to conduct modeling analysis and control strategy analysis. This paper utilizes dual-dq transformations to achieve decoupling between input and output frequencies, realizing independent control of both the input and output sides. Furthermore, addressing the issue of equal frequency operation in the M3C system, a frequency operation control strategy based on low-frequency circulating current injection was proposed. The proposed method does not require injecting common mode voltage or applying reactive power. Simulation results based on the M3C verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, and the dynamic and static performance of the control strategy is also validated. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Hospitals currently face numerous challenges in managing their pharmacy operations efficiently. While Business Process Reengineering (BPR) has been proposed as a solution, its implementation in healthcare is more complex than in other industries. Healthcare professionals often struggle to identify problems and resist change. Simulation modeling is a technique that can visually present issues and facilitate user acceptance of changes. This paper systematically explores the application of discrete event simulation (DES) modeling in hospital pharmacy management. The specific problem of inefficient inventory control policies was analyzed and simulated using primary and secondary data from a tertiary care hospital case study in Thailand, focusing on a fast-moving drug called "Tear Natural Free (TNF)". The simulation revealed the current inefficient performance, highlighting various phenomena such as demand characteristics, inventory levels, and stock-outs in each pharmacy room. The simulation outputs were utilized to identify alternative scenarios for further analysis of the effects of changing the business process. The most suitable forecasting technique and inventory replenishment policy for this type of item were determined to be Croston's method and continuous review order-point, order-up-to-level (s, S) or min-max policy, respectively. Simulation modeling can serve as a valuable tool in identifying problems and improving business processes in hospital pharmacy management. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Based on the technological analysis of the production modules of the mechanical assembly area selected as the object of research, a circular assembly structure was proposed, which ensures the execution of operations with the complex, interconnected, and safe principle of its machines and the technological operations of the crane-manipulator. To ensure the automation of the working modules of the mechanical assembly flexible production area, the information provision in the form of a table of the types of technological measurement, execution, control and management system, its energy, functional and construction characteristics, according to the sequence of operations of the crane-manipulator, was created. The automation scheme of the application object was built based on the principles of the construction of the types of machines of the flexible production area, the crane-manipulator, their measurement, execution, and control system. The expediency of using the Petri net modeling method to analyze the structural scheme and functional operations of the flexible production area with computer experiments and to effectively evaluate its dynamic indicators is substantiated. To ensure the transition of the functional model to the dynamic model, in addition to the transition function of the Petri net, the modeling mechanism and control positions were determined, the decomposition of the mechanical assembly area was realized with the hierarchical Petri net, and the division of the functional model of the complex technological process into levels was ensured. At the 2nd level of the Petri hierarchical network, a general graph-scheme of the functional model of the crane-manipulator's turning-machine servicing operations was constructed and the values of the incidence matrices were determined. The paper describes a method for synthesizing robust control systems for autonomous underwater vehicle-manipulator systems, which allow for high-precision movement of them along complex spatial trajectories and their stabilization at some point in the water space when performing manipulation operations in hover modes over work objects. The proposed system makes it possible to achieve this result even in the presence of uncertainties and inaccuracies in setting the parameters of dynamic models of an underwater robot, its propulsion and steering complex or manipulator by dividing the underwater vehicle control signal into two parts: the first is formed on the basis of these dynamic models with specified nominal parameters, the second provides compensation for uncertainties and inaccuracies in setting these parameters. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In the process industries, it's hard to control a non-linear process. Nonlinear behavior is frequently seen in real processes. The challenging problem of controlling a spherical tank is result of its nonlinearity caused by the continuously varying cross section. An IMC-based PID controller is employed to improve efficiency of controlling the level of spherical tanks which exhibit nonlinear dynamics. For processes up to second-order with dead time and first-order numerator dynamics, a single tuning parameter will be offered. The process model is determined employing mathematical modeling and standard step response-based system identification. The laboratory model of an interacting and non-interacting nonlinear system is introduced, which is capable of performing more complex tasks. To verify the effectiveness of the suggested IMC based PID controller, results of real-time experiments and a simulation study on spherical tank level control are incorporated. © 2025 IEEE.

As an important tool for material stacking, handling and transportation in enterprises, wooden pallets have many problems such as large loss, low recovery rate and high procurement cost. Therefore, improving the recycled rate and recycling utilization rate of wooden pallet, and reducing its failure rate, is an effective means to reduce the operation cost of enterprises. Starting from the actual situation, this paper first establishes the closed-loop supply chain model of Company J, then concretizes and generalizes the entire supply chain model by constructing the closed-loop supply chain mathematical model. Finally, through analyzing and comparing the data related to wooden pallets of the company in two years, it proves that wooden pallets adopt the closed-loop supply chain recycling mechanism can greatly reduce the operating costs of enterprises, and also has important reference significance for realizing resource protection and green production. © 2025 SPIE.

This article presents an adaptive predictive model control solution for autonomous vehicles that does not depend on the vehicle's learning model. The adaptive forecaster uses historical information to predict and adjust future performance, updating the model based on real-time feedback. Adaptive predictive control is computationally intensive, requiring powerful hardware. The adaptive model prediction method enhances the vehicle's autonomous capabilities in navigating complex driving problems. Apd_MPC provides a solution that promises to improve vehicle autonomy in complex driving situations. Based on the foundation of Apd_MPC, developing predictive control systems for autonomous vehicles helps optimize vehicle control and creates a flexible and precise mechanism for handling complex traffic situations. Applying Apd_MPC in autonomous vehicles helps improve prediction capabilities and optimizes operating procedures, assisting vehicles to move more safely and efficiently in diverse street environments.
