The virtual instrumentation (VI) is rapidly replacing classical analog as well as digital instrumentation systems owing to the availability of high performance microprocessors based PCs, fast Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) and sophisticated data communication technology. Therefore, investigation of more and more efficient and effective VI based solutions to modern instrumentation problems is one of the main research areas for design engineers. The work presented in this paper is application oriented and thus the contribution of the paper is how to instigate the already known control algorithms in NI LabVIEW. Instead of relying on commercially available expensive hardware, a low-cost self-developed DAQ card is employed. The elaboration of the idea is carried out by designing a VI based DC drive and a thermal system. modeling, PID controller and user-interface development is presented for both examples. The positive results of this study establish the utility of virtual instrumentation especially for control applications.
Sensory systems, such as computer vision, can be used to measure relative robot end-effector positions to derive feedback signals for control of end-effector positioning. The role of vision as the feedback transducer ...

This book is a collection of research papers selected for presentation at the internationalconference on Smart Computational Methods in Continuum Mechanics 2021, organized by Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and the Institute for Computer Aided Design of Russian Academy of Sciences. The work is presented in two volumes. The primary objective of the book is to report the state-of-the-art on smart computational paradigms in continuum mechanics and explore the use of artificial intelligence paradigms such as neural nets, and machine learning for improving the performance of the designed engineering systems. The book includes up-to-date smart computational methods which are used to solve problems in continuum mechanics, engineering, seismic prospecting, non-destructive testing, and so on. The main features of the book are the research papers on the application of novel smart methods including neural nets and machine learning, computational algorithms, smart software systems, andhigh-performance computer systems for solving complex engineering problems. The case studies pertaining to the real-world applications in the above fields are included. The book presents a collection of best research papers in English language from some of the world leaders in the field of smart system modelling and design of engineering systems.

The F oilfield in the Middle East straddles Iran and Iraq, and the contract block only includes the Iraqi part, structural incompleteness is a difficult problem in oilfield research. Oilfield development and geological modeling also face several other challenges, including complex lithology, many factors affecting reservoir physical property, lack of testing data resulting in great uncertainty in physical property interpretation, and no effective constraints in attribute modeling. In view of these difficulties, a set of fine reservoir geological modeling technology series suitable for trans-boundary and mixed reservoirs are established, including set up virtual wells to complete the structure, multistage facies controlling geological modeling, mixed lithology classification and sedimentary microfacies study, evaluation of effective permeability by dynamic and static combination, conditional constraint saturation modeling. Referring to the structural form of Iranian part of F Oilfield in public data, the virtual wells are reasonably set up, and the incomplete anticline structure is complemented by combining the virtual wells with the structure in the contract area. A two-stage model of lithofacies and reservoir facies is established by using the idea of multistage facies control. The reservoir facies model is established under the constraint of sedimentary facies model to ensure the reasonable distribution of reservoir in space. By using the two-terminal element classification method, the classification standard of mixed reservoir suitable for F oilfield is established, and the research process of sedimentary microfacies in mixing background is formed, which solves the problems of complex rock classification and sedimentary microfacies research, and lays the foundation for the modeling of sedimentary facies and reservoir facies. Effective permeability of single well is evaluated by combining dynamic and static data, and the trend surface of dynamic/static permeabilit

A new one-dimensional approach, based on the solution of the governing equations for unsteady, reacting and compressible flows has been developed for the simulation of the hydrodynamics, the transient filtration/loading and the catalytic/NO(2)-assisted regeneration occurring in diesel particulate filters (DPF). The model is able to keep track of the chemical compounds, of the amount of soot transported by the flow, and it can estimate the increasing of back-pressure occurring in the exhaust system, due to the permeability variation of the porous wall and to the soot cake building up on the DPF porous surface. Further, a prediction of the oxidation of the deposited particulate induced by the Oxygen (collected in the exhaust gas), by the nitrogen dioxide (NO(2)), by the carbon oxide (CO) and by the hydrocarbons (HC) converted along the diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC) is given. A first validation of the code has been performed by the comparison with the results coming from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and with experimental measurements published in literature. The proposed model has been included in an engine simulation code, in order to perform a simulation of a complete engine: results coming from an optimization work recently carried out on a 1.9 L JTD turbocharged diesel engine, equipped with a complex after-treatment system, are presented. To solve the problems of large volume, complex routing and low system precision of space manipulator, the technology of integrative design is presented to realize high-cohesion and low-coupling integrative joint for space manipulator, which integrates permanent magnet synchronous motor, controller, driver, resolver, adaptability design of space environment, routing and joint mechanism and so on into a whole. To realize each component in joint to match exactly each other, all components of integrative joint are simultaneously planned and designed to achieve high-cohesion and low-coupling. This kind of design can eliminate the redundant shells and mount surfaces in traditional joint of space manipulator, which can increase power density and enhance system performance with a simple mechanical interface and standard electrical interface. This paper proposes a novel method to realize dual-redundancy detection for motor rotor and joint positions by installing two resolvers onto motor shaft at the same time, which can also improve position detection precision and noise immunity by difference principle, decrease joint size and simplify joint structure. In addition, the thermal control and isothermal design are adopted to obtain the temperature balance in integrative joint. Experimental results validated the design scheme in this paper, and it showed that studied integrative joint had nice driving performance to meet the requirements of space manipulator at light weight, high rigidity and high precision.
