A distributed event processing system consists of one or more nodes (machines), and can execute a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of operators called a dataflow (or query), over long-running high-event-rate data sources. An important component of such a system is cost estimation, which predicts or estimates the "goodness" of a given input, i.e., operator graph and/or assignment of individual operators to nodes. Cost estimation is the foundation for solving many problems: optimization (plan selection and distributed operator placement), provisioning, admission control, and user reporting of system misbehavior. Latency is a significant user metric in many commercial real-time applications. Users are usually interested in quantiles of latency, such as worst-case or 99(th) percentile. However, existing cost estimation techniques for event-based dataflows use metrics that, while they may have the side-effect of being correlated with latency, do not directly or provably estimate latency. In this paper, we propose a new cost estimation technique using a metric called Mace (Maximum cumulative excess). Mace is provably equivalent to maximum system latency in a (potentially complex, multi-node) distributed event-based system. The close relationship to latency makes Mace ideal for addressing the problems described earlier. Experiments with real-world datasets on Microsoft StreamInsight deployed over 1-13 nodes in a data center validate our ability to closely estimate latency (within 4%), and the use of Mace for plan selection and distributed operator placement.

In actual conversational scenarios, we can often determine which parts of the previous dialogue are more critical based on the current inquiry. However, the existing contextual modeling methods often encode the query sentence and the dialogue history in a unified manner, which fails to effectively highlight the inference effect of the query sentence. Moreover, these methods typically process the dialogue history only at the information extraction level, neglecting the treatment of the context itself. In this paper, we propose a novel conversational context modeling technique called DialogNTM. Based on the guidance of the query sentence, the technology can effectively eliminate redundant information by reconstructing the representation of the context. Specifically, we have tweaked the memory and input flow of the Neural Turing Machine (NTM) to encode contextual information in memory and guide the read, write, and erase operations of memory through query sentence. This design simulates the human brain's dynamic retrieval and renewal mechanism of previous memories when dealing with current problems. We have conducted extensive experiments on three publicly available datasets to verify the effectiveness of the DialogNTM model. Compared to the benchmark model, DialogNTM showed significant performance improvements ranging from 11% to 73% across multiple automated evaluation metrics (3.52% to 8.68% in absolute terms). © 2024 IEEE.

A modeling method for controller in FMS is presented. This method is based upon the timed automata. Model checker tool UPPAAL is used to model, simulate and verify the FMS model. In the previous work about FMS modeling, the behavior of FMS is more emphasized than the performance, or vice versa. Because the time is included into the modeling method in this paper, the scheduling and controlling problems in FMS can be integrated into this model. The performance of the system can be guaranteed while the system behavior is controlled. Upon this model, the optimal scheduling and optimal controlling can also be checked and verified.

According to the law of conversion of energy, the charge of the average dc capacitor voltage of the active power filter can supply the real power flow information. If the average dc capacitor voltage is controlled to be a constant referenced value, it is necessary to drive the required filter oempensating current into the supply, hence removing the effects of the load harmonics. The parts of the main circuits including the supply, the loads and the active power filter are defined as a generalized active power filter. A novel algorithm of the plant model and the inverse model are adaptive. It is necessary to know the precision model of the generalized active power filter. The only important point is that the plant model has the same dynamic response with the generalized active power filter. The modeling principle of the proposed active power filter is analyzed. The dynamic diagram of the model is achieved by means of simulation. The minimum and maximum amplitude of the expected mains current is established. The convergence process of the system is analyzed. The experiment results validate the principle analysis.

The efficiency of underwater technical operations by remotely operated unmanned underwater vehicles (ROV) equipped with a multi-link manipulator (MM) is largely determined by the accuracy of the ROV dynamic positioning above the work object under conditions of disturbing effects from the current and the communication cable with the support vessel. The report proposes a new approach to the development of a mathematical model of the ROV motion control system (MCS), taking into account the force effects of the communication cable caused by the underwater current and the motion of the vehicle itself. The proposed mathematical model of the cable response to the vehicle is based on pre-calculated values of the running end tension in a steady oncoming flow within a certain maneuvering area of the ROV. The hydrodynamic characteristics of the promising ROV were determined as a result of virtual blowing of its 3D model, and the mathematical model of the propulsion and steering complex (PSC) was developed in accordance with the used layout scheme and the results of mooring tests of the used propeller. The modeling of the ROV motion was carried out taking into account the influence of cable tension along one of the typical trajectories. The developed mathematical model of the ROV control system allows for more accurate determination of the requirements for the propulsion and power supply system (PSS) of the device at the preliminary design stage. In addition, this model can be used as an element of supporting the operator's activities for the optimal deployment of the underwater tethered system 'vessel - communication cable - ROV'. © 2024 IEEE.

During interactions of embedded systems in robots, thousands of transistors may be active at once, even though only one computational process is underway to achieve a target simultaneous goal. The challenge this presents to the task of intelligent agent systems has spawned increasing interest in agent complex concurrent event processing techniques and optimizing synchronous processes. This paper will provide an examination of simultaneous agent event handling literature, which assesses the agent's ability to keep two events going on at once. Literature in this area has largely focused on issues common to specific subareas such as Markov decision processes (MDPs), actions in a special kind of decision problem known as the semi-Markov decision process, or SMDP and robotics. In this review, these subareas will be explored through examining various approaches to simultaneous events handling, event-based triggering processes, concurrent action modeling, and grasp and control transport algorithm.

This book presents correct-by-design control techniques for switching systems, using different methods of stability analysis. Switching systems are increasingly used in the electronics and mechanical industries; in power electronics and the automotive industry, for example. This is due to their flexibility and simplicity in accurately controlling industrial mechanisms. By adopting appropriate control rules, we can steer a switching system to a region centered at a desired equilibrium point, while avoiding "unsafe" regions of parameter saturation. The authors explain various correct-by-design methods for control synthesis, using different methods of stability and invariance analysis. The article proposes a non-standard approach to the analysis, evaluation and control of the behavior of complex coupled chaotic systems with fractional dynamics interacting in an Open System. The results of studies using analytical and numerical methods for modeling and simulating the processes of system interactions at the meso-level in a non-monotonic space are presented. Using the example of intelligently connected systems, their connections are analyzed and collective behavior is modeled. The purpose of modeling is to find a satisfactory coherent state of interacting systems. The axiomatic of the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is given in terms of a swarm system in combination with coupled non-linear hyper chaotic structures of fractional order. The evaluation of the results of interactions is given in terms of the Tsallis entropy, the visualization of the results of interactions is given in the form of recurrence plots.

This paper proposes an opportunistic framework to modeling and control of multi-robots moving-target pursuit in dynamic environment with partial observability. The partial observability is achieved via the introduction of third party agent (referred to as mediator) that transforms the target's as well as group members' positioning information into the robotic agents' common knowledge, thereby eliminating the necessity of direct inter-robots communication. The robotic agents involved are modeled as fully autonomous entities, capable of determining their corresponding action profiles, using a strategy inference engine. The robot's inference engine consists of two sub-rating components viz. fixed or predefined sub-rating, and the variable or the opportunistic subrating. The action profiles at individual level are further analyzed by the mediator that finalizes the agent's action assignment at every execution cycle. It has been proven that addition of the third party mediator guarantees the optimality of group level performance.

Access control is becoming increasingly important for today's ubiquitous systems which provide mechanism to prevent sensitive resources against unauthorized users. In access control models, the administration of access control policies is an important task that raises a crucial analysis problem: if a set of administrators can give a user an unauthorized access permission. In this paper, we consider the analysis problem in the context of the Administrative Role-Based Access control (ARBAC), one of the most widespread administrative models. We describe how we design heuristics to enable an analysis tool, called asaspXL, to scale up to handle large and complex ARBAC policies and a sequence of analysis problems. An extensive experimentation shows that the proposed heuristics play a key role in the success of the analysis tool over the state-of-the-art analysis tools.
