High Reliable Medium Voltage Drive With Reduced Component Count of Converters

The rapid development of technology, particularly in the fields of medium-voltage drive applications, has led to the widespread and use of AC to DC multi-pulse (MPC) and DC to AC multilevel converters. In recent years, multi-winding transformers (MWTs)-based MPC have received significant attention, owing to the growing need to utilize the energy as per power quality standards with high reliability in medium voltage drive systems. The main issues of MPC are the large complexity of winding connections, which directly degrades the reliability of the system and increases the requirement for conductor material. To address these issues of grid-end converters, this paper suggests a less complex structure of a MWT for a 36- pulse MPC, which demands the least conductor material for windings. Moreover, the reduction in the number of components of the MLI has a noticeable role in saving size, cost, and reliability improvement. To address these features in the drive system, a 5-level hybrid symmetric cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter (HSCHB-MLI) is presented, which performs a high-quality power conversion at the motor terminals of the drive system. Hence, the main concerns of this drive system are the reduction in the component count, weight, and losses of the system with excellent harmonics performance. The operational aspects of the topology such as circuit structure, design, and IFOC, and modulation technique are elaborated in detail. A detailed comparative assessment is performed with other MWT and MLI structures to demonstrate the merits of the presented MWT and MLI structures, respectively. Finlay, through Simulink modeling and hardware testing setup, the viability of the proposed architecture is verified.

We are considering a model of a large company with a subsidiary with a production base. The company is headed by top manager (the Boss), who is assisted by the Adviser. The head of the branch (Manager) organizes production, including at a subordinate mill headed by the Director. Production is affected by random external influences. When making decisions, the Manager knows exactly the production capacity at the branch level. But he does not know the maximum production capacities (limits) of the mill at random external influences. The Director knows exactly these limits when making decisions. Neither the Adviser nor the Boss knows the capabilities of the branch and the limits of the mill. Thus, the Manager can manipulate the branch's production volumes to influence the Boss's decisions in order to increase his own remuneration. Therefore, the Boss needs to learn how to control the Manager so that the production volumes in the branch are maximized under random external influences. Likewise, the Director can manipulate the performance of the mill in order to influence the Manager's decisions about his own remuneration. Therefore, the Manager needs to manage the Director in such a way as to increase the production of the mill. As a result of building and studying this model, a company management mechanism was found, in which the branch's production is maximized under random external influences. This mechanism encourages the Manager to use an effective mill control mechanism and other opportunities to increase production in the branch. The application of this approach is illustrated by the example of freight wagon repair management. © 2022 IEEE.

In recent years, the threat of severe infectious diseases has highlighted the challenges in disease prevention and control and the critical need for effective healthcare resource allocation strategies. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a complex systems modeling approach to characterize the spatiotemporal transmission risks of infectious diseases. Based on the inferred transmission risks, we develop a risk-guided strategy to allocate limited healthcare resources, particularly testing capacities, to areas with the greatest need to control the spread of infectious diseases. We assess the effectiveness of our proposed strategy at both the population and individual levels. At the population level, we measure the strategy's impact on reducing the peak number of daily infections. At the individual level, we evaluate how well the strategy influences individuals' decisions to undergo disease detection tests. Experimental results on simulation data with various parameter settings demonstrate that our strategy significantly mitigates disease spread by reducing peak daily infections and effectively guides individuals to comply with testing policies.

Now-a-days manufacturing processes are becoming more and more complex which constantly complicate the management of their life cycle. Although, in order to survive and maintain a good position in the competitive industrial context, industrials have understood that they must optimize the whole life cycle of their manufacturing processes. The maintenance constitutes one of the key processes indispensable to ensure the proper functioning and to optimize the lifetime of machines and production lines, and thus to optimize quality and production costs. Therefore, its automation and optimization represent until now a center of interest for researches and manufacturers, especially those related to the integration of artificial intelligence tools in the industry. In this context, several new concepts and technologies have emerged, particularly in the context of industry 4.0. One of these new concepts is digital twins, which has become a promising direction to optimize manufacturing processes lifecycle. However, the implementation of this technology faces several complex problems related to the interoperability between physical entities and their virtual counterparts, as well as to the logical reasoning between the different elements constituting the digital twin. It is in this context that an approach based on digital twins and ontologies is proposed. The originality of this paper lies in two important points: the first is the exploitation of the expressiveness and reasoning capabilities of ontologies to solve cyber-physical interoperability problems at the digital twin level, while the second is the automation of the whole maintenance process and its decision making key points using the inference potentialities of ontologies. The applicability and effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated through an industrial case of study.

Hydraulic manipulators with multiple degrees of freedom have an increasing range of applications in industrial production, and have the potential to complete various complex tasks. Nowadays, the complex and precision-demanding working environment often requires the hydraulic manipulators to have high control accuracy, which limits their usage. The inherent high-order nonlinearity and uncertainty of hydraulic systems greatly affect the precise control of hydraulic manipulators. High order dynamics such as friction and vibration also have a significant impact on their controlling. Additionally, manipulator typically operates in complex environments with large loads, the end load has always been an important external factor affecting their control accuracy. In this paper, a direct/indirect adaptive robust controller (DIARC) is developed. By incorporating nonlinear and uncertain terms into the dynamic modeling, the control accuracy can be improved. In addition, the end load of the manipulator is incorporated into the parameter space, which makes end load estimation possible. Simulation is constructed using MATLAB Simscape and the performance of the controller is attested. Results shows that the controller can not only improve the tracking accuracy when the end load is heavy, but precisely identify the mass of end load precisely. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2023.

The quotient of two multivariate Gaussian densities can be written as an unnormalized Gaussian density, which has been applied in some recently developed multiple-model fixed-interval smoothing algorithms. However, this expression is invalid if instead of being positive definite, the covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density is indefinite (i.e., it has both positive and negative eigenvalues) or undefined (i.e., computing it requires inverting a singular matrix). This paper considers approximating the quotient of two Gaussian densities in this case using two different approaches to mitigate the caused numerical problems. The first approach directly replaces the indefinite covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density with a positive definite matrix nearest to it. The second approach computes the approximation through solving, using the natural gradient, an optimization problem with a Kullback-Leibler divergence-based cost function. This paper illustrates the application of the theoretical results by incorporating them into an existing smoothing method for jump Markov systems and utilizing the obtained smoothers to track a maneuvering target. © 2023 international Society of Information Fusion.
