The aim of the litchi stem extraction based on computer vision is to provide the basic image for the position of litchi plucking point In this paper, the litchi stem extraction was studied by comparing various color models and combining with the cluster segmentation algorithm under natural scene. For the complex natural scene, three steps were taken to finish the litchi stem extraction. Firstly, the image of string-like litchi fruits was extracted through the Cr component in YCbCr color model;Secondly, the image of litchi fruits was extracted from the color image by K-means clustering method which based on RGB;finally, the image of litchi stem was obtained by the image subtraction operation and morphological processing. The results showed that the success rate of stem extraction is 80% by experimenting thirty images collected under natural scene. © 2011 IEEE.

The objective of this research is to develop algorithm to recognize black germ wheat based on image processing. The sample used for this study involved wheat from major producing areas of China. Images of wheat were acquired with a color linear CCD machine vision system. Each image was pre-processed to correct color offset. Then doublethreshold method was used to segment black germ from background and other area in wheat. Combining morphological and extracted feature gave a highly acceptable classification. The high classification accuracies obtained using a small number of features indicate the potential of the algorithm for on-line inspection of black germ wheat in industrial environment. The overall average classification accuracy among the involved varieties reaches above 93%. This paper presents the significant elements of the computer vision system and emphasizes the important aspects of the image processing technique. © 2011 IEEE.

With the development of modern wind energy generation, higher requirements to the grid in case of a failure were raised. In order to faciliate the recovery of power, while voltage dips in a certain range, protecting the rotor side converter and providing reactive power to the grid are both needed according to the *** paper takes DFIG for example, in order to protect the rotor side converter, we analyze different voltage phase angles and DFIG's electromagnetic transition process while the voltage dips. Proposing a method to eliminate harmonic components during transition process, that the proposed control *** results show that the control strategy can achieve the purpose of protecting the rotor side converter, while eliminating the harmonic currents of stator side and rotor side under voltage dips. © 2011 IEEE.

Due to the high cost of engine bench test under transient operations, a transient simulation platform of turbocharged diesel engine with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) loop was established. Based on this simulation platform, in order to reduce NOx emissions and control the smoothness of combustion process organization of HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) combustion mode, four control strategies under EGR step change transient operation were discussed, which were the linear control strategy, the upcast control strategy, the sunken control strategy and the compositive control strategy. From the aspect of transient response of combustion boundary parameters, the upcast and the compositive control strategy are superior to the linear and the sunken. The response time of EGR mass flow rate of the upcast control strategy is 40% shorter than the linear, and it is 57% shorter than the sunken. In order to avoid torque ripple during transient process, the compositive and the linear control strategy are superior to the upcast and the sunken. The torque ripple of the compositive control strategy is 18% lower than the upcast. In terms of reducing NOx emissions during transient process, at one time, NOx emissions of the upcast and the compositive control strategy are 11% and 6% less than that of the linear. Reducing the same 12% of the NOx emissions, the upcast and the compositive control strategy can shorten 38% and 19% response time than that of the linear. From the purpose of reducing Soot emission during transient process, at one time, Soot emission of the linear and the compositive control strategy are 23% and 11% less than the upcast. Reach the same Soot emission value, the time of the linear and the compositive control strategy is slower by 36% and 17% relative to that of the upcast. © 2011 IEEE.

Several studies have shown significant relationships between the El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and streamflows at global, regional and local scales. This paper presents an overview of the relationship between the ENSO and mean-monthly streamflows (1967-2008) of five hydrological stations in the Jiulong River in Fujian Province, Southeast China. Results show that in the 24-month life cycle of warm phase of ENSO (El Niño), it tends to have lower streamflows in the first spring (from March through May), and higher streamflows in the first winter (from December through February) and the second spring. During the period of cold phase of ENSO (La Niña), it tends to have lower streamflows in the first winter and the second spring. Meanwhile, a lag correlation between the mean-monthly streamflows and surface sea temperature anomalies is also examined. Results show that, during El Niño events, streamflows have strong lag correlations from zero to six months with surface sea temperature anomalies (r = 0.250-0.576 at the 99% level, the strongest ones are one to three months), and weak lag correlations from three to four months in the period of La Niña events (r = 0.238-0.289 at the 99% level) for the Jiulong River. The likely reason for the difference is that the typical El Niño events persist for some 18 months, while a La Niña condition can last up to two years or more, so an further study finds that, during period of long La Niña events (longer than two years), the streamflow responses to SSTA lags by two to five months, with stronger correlations between 0.339-0.559 at the 99% level. These conclusions are invaluable for management of water resources, particularly in the dry seasons of the watershed. © 2011 IEEE.

The concentrations of As, Cd, Ni, Cr, Zn, Cu, Hg and Pb in the sediment of Xiyi River were analyzed by flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed the average concentration of total As, Cd, Ni, Cr, Zn, Cu, Hg and Pb in the sediment was higher than the national threshold limit. The values of pollution index and integrated pollution index showed that the pollution level was Cd> Zn >Hg>Pb>Cu> Ni> As > Cr. Enrichment of heavy metals was found in the sediments collected along the industrial stations of Xinyin River. In the sediments collected closed to carbon factory and old lumber mill of the river, heavy metal concentrations were relatively low. This study indicates that the sediment near the industrial zone was widely and extremely polluted by multi-heavy metals as a result of longterm industrial activities. © 2011 IEEE.

Experiments were conducted to examine the effects of nylon 66 chemical wastewater treatment by active carbon film filler contact oxidation process. The results showed that the formation of biofilm was relatively rapid on the surface of active carbon film filler, and the treatment efficiency was stable. The removal rate could reach 88.9% and 46.00% for COD and NH3-N respectively when the HRT was 22 hours, and the influent concentration of COD was 1036.6mg/L, NH3-N 88.7mg/L. As the influent concentration of COD and NH3-N increased to 1915.4mg/L and 123.6mg/L respectively, the removal rate of COD could be up to 89.7% while NH3-N reduced to 21.4%. Meanwhile moderate swing of filler was beneficial for high treatment efficiency and preventing sludge accumulation. © 2011 IEEE.

Excess Sludge was disintegrated by combined effects of ultrasonic and mechanical treatment. Investigation experiments were carried out to disintegrate excess sludge by combined both treatment methods. As results, the optimal disintegration effect was obtained by 6min ultrasonic treatment combined with 7min mechanical treatment, and DDCOD was 43.48%, SCOD/ES was 0.52. Under the same energy consumption condition (ES was 7053.3 kJ/kg·TS and 7038.0 kJ/kg·TS, relatively), disintegration rate DDCOD of combined treatment method was increased by 16.70% when compared with that of either of the methods. So, it was concluded that higher efficient disintegration effect could be obtained by combined effects of ultrasonic and mechanical treatment. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents a numerical simulation based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method on the enhancement of natural ventilation in an industrial workshop with heat source induced by solar chimney (SC). Four types of SC were designed to attach to the top and southern roof of the workshop. Realizable k-Ε turbulent model and DO (discrete ordinate) radiation model were used to calculate the air flow and heat transfer in the workshop and SC channel. Results on ventilation rate, air velocity and temperature in operating zone were compared and discussed. When a suitable SC was fit to the workshop roof, the maximum ventilation rate increased about 36.3% and the mean air velocity increased about 20.7% compared to the original design of the workshop. The thermal sensation in operating zone was evaluated by Predicted mean vote (PMV) and predicted percentage of dissatisfied (PPD) methods. Mean temperature and mean velocity along the height of workshop were presented and discussed. © 2011 IEEE.

A comparative study on phosphate removal between activated steel slag and blast furnace slag was investigated. The efficiency of different slags before and after activated for phosphate removal were also evaluated. The results show that the slags activated by hydrothermal treatment are more efficient than raw slags in phosphate removal. The activated slags could be reused for several times and the phosphate removal efficiency could be guaranteed by increasing the reaction time towards to different reused times. Compared with activated pulverized slags, the activated granular slags could be reused for a longer time for a given initial phosphate concentration. The results suggest that the activated granular slags may be effective materials for phosphate removal. The phosphate removal by activated slag was mainly through chemical precipitation. © 2011 IEEE.
