Organic matter (OM) is important for ammonium sorption in lake sediments, but as a matter of fact, there is no general consensus about the effects of OM on ammonium adsorption behavior. In this study, the sediment samples of different OM contents and the different components of organic matter were gained from Wuli Lake sediment through pretreatment, then the ammonium adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics processes were investigated without taking the mineralization of OM into account in simulating laboratory condition, especially analyzing the ammonium adsorption mechanism and adsorption contribution of the different component of OM using scan electronic microscope (SEM) techniques. The results show that the ammonium adsorption on sediments was effected by the OM content and the humified degree of OM simultaneously;The different components of OM had different surface characteristics, and the order of ammonium adsorption capacity was HA>HKB>KB>BC;controlled by the humified degree of OM, the accessibly young OM (HA) rather than the total OM was a factor in the adsorption of ammonium. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, the decolorization of simulated rhodamine B dye wastewater was investigated using a threedimensional electrode reactor with granular activated carbon (GAC) loaded with manganese oxide (MnOx/GAC) as the particle electrode. The decolorization ratio by two-dimensional electrode, traditional three-dimensional electrode and MnOx/GAC three-dimensional electrode method was compared respectively, and simultaneously, the effect of treatment time, voltage and pH on the color removal efficiency was studied. The experimental results showed that the decolorization ratio of MnOx/GAC three-dimensional electrode is much higher than that of two-dimensional electrode or traditional three-dimensional electrode. While the concentration of the simulated rhodamine B dye wastewater was 50 mg/L, the decolorization ratio by MnOx/GAC threedimensional electrode can reach 98.9% under the condition of the voltage 11V, the initial pH 5 and the treatment time 120 min. © 2011 IEEE.

This study proposed element weight method to improve the calculation accuracy of storage capacity of geothermal reservoir. This method fully exploits all geothermal wells in the calculation region, and the calculation region of every three neighboring geothermal wells was divided into many calculation elements;the whole calculation region of the distribution parameters were discretized into independent lumped parameter regions in each element;the arithmetic mean of three node parameters in each element was used as the element lumped parameter and the block with the same set of parameters was divided into calculation regions as small as possible. The effect of one element as well as its the parameters in the whole calculation region depends on the weight of area of this element in the whole calculation area. The element weight method can be used to calculate volume water storage capacity of geothermal fluid, elastic release storage capacity, geothermal storage capacity of volume water, geothermal energy storage capacity of elastic releasing water, geothermal storage capacity of geothermal reservoir rocks for each element, respectively;and then storage capacities of various elements and the entire calculation regions can be calculated through summing up. In the second part of this study, the data of 65 existing geothermal wells were adopted to calculate storage capacity of geothermal resources in Lantian Bahe Formation of Xi'an Depression by using the element weight method. If the geothermal energy recovery is set as 10%, under the current efforts of the exploitation, the geothermal energy contained in geothermal reservoir can be extracted for more than 10,000 years;while under the current conditions of exploitation technology, the mining of available elastic release storage capacity can be maintained for more than 40 years. © 2011 IEEE.

Based on the reviewing of the condensing heat recovery research and application, the disadvantages of household air-conditioner and hot water heater are pointed out, and a new energy-saving system by combining them is proposed. This new hot water /split air-conditioner combination system adopts propane (R290) as its working medium, which is an environment-friendly natural hydrogen carbon compound. The new system principle and its five running modes are presented. Performances of different running modes have been tested in the enthalpy difference lab. The experiment data demonstrated that, this new system with five running modes can meet human's comfort requirements and domestic hot water requirements, and moreover, the performance of R290 is superior to traditional refrigerant, such as R22, and it is especially suitable for preparation of hot water. This new system is high efficiency, energy saving and environmental friendly. © 2011 IEEE.

The chemical surfactant Tween 80 and biosurfactant rhamnolipid were added to the solid-state fermentation processes of a strain of actinomycete Streptomyces badius. The extracellular amylase, protease, carboxymethyl cellulose enzyme (CMCase) and xylanase were analyzed during the fermentation process. In addition, the pH of the fermentation substrate, microbial population and the degradation of the organic matter were determined. The results showed that Tween 80 increased the activities of amylase, protease, CMCase and xylanase to different extents while rhamnolipid only had an obvious stimulatory effect on xylanase. Neither Tween 80 nor rhamnolipid had an obvious effect on the pH of the fermentation substrate. As a result of the improved enzyme activities, the degradation rates of organic matter of the treatments with surfactants were higher than that of the control. The results indicated that Tween 80 is a common stimulant for most enzymes, while rhamnolipid can only act with some specific enzyme, such as xylanase. © 2011 IEEE.

Poly diallyl dimethyl ammonium chloride (PDMDAAC) is a cationic organic polymer flocculant, The aim of this work is to use PFS or PAC for treating surface raw water and PDMDAAC as coagulant aid. Electron microscope was used to observe flocs morphology and study PDMDAAC coagulation aid morphological change, floc image with microscope camera system analysis, calculation of floc fractal dimension. The results show that the, PDMDAAC in dealing with the surface raw water to play a good coagulation aid effect. Microscope and image analysis system of flocs morphology show that fractal dimension of morphology of PFS and PFS/ PDMDAAC were 1.521,1.544,and fractal dimension of morphology of PAC and PAC/ PDMDAAC were 1.303,1.395,respectively. Floc fractal dimension changes to better reflect the flocculation level and treatment effect for the establishment of floc fractal dimension number of changes in the coagulation control is provided for reference. © 2011 IEEE.

The adsorption of Cu2+ from pharmaceutical wastewater by zeolite was studied in a batch adsorption system. Factors influencing copper adsorption such as pH (1-5), adsorbent dosage (5-50 g/L) and contact time (20-600 min) were investigated. The equilibrium of adsorption process was established in about 480 min, while pH was 5 and adsorbent dosage was 30 g/L. After the adsorption equilibrium was achieved, the removal efficiency of Cu2+ was above 99%. A comparison of the kinetic models on the overall adsorption rate showed that the adsorption system was best described by the pseudo second-order kinetics. The adsorption equilibrium data fit best with the Langmuir isotherm. © 2011 IEEE.

The airflow of air curtain installed on the shearer carrys a part of dust produced by the shearer to the driver side under the entraining action. So, for further improvement on the dust-isolation effect, the authors put forward to adopt the rotating air curtain to prevent entainment dust from being carryed into the driver side and enhance dust control. Through adding a short falling curtain at the roof of work face which parallels and has equal-length with air curtain, the airflow blowing out from air curtain outlet forms a rotating air curtain in the area enclosed by the roof and floor of work face, coal wall and the shearer under their attachment and the falling curtain obstruction action. The Principle and effect of dust control were analysed by theory and numerical simulation, the result shows, adding a short falling curtain at the roof of work face can improve the dust-isolation effect of air curtain. © 2011 IEEE.

The cavity diameter is an important parameter to denote the characteristic of porous concrete. So far, the information about the measurement of cavity diameter of porous concrete is quite insufficient. Especially, the direct measuring method was seldom reported. In the study, a new method to measure the cavity diameter by applying Integrate Charge-Coupled Detector (CCD) imaging technology was developed. The method was simple, time and money spending less and effective. In terms of the method, the mean cavity diameters of porous concretes made by coarse aggregates of 5-10mm, 10-16mm, 16-20mm, 20-25mm and 25-32mm were 3.20mm, 4.33 mm, 6.70 mm, 7.75 mm and 9.65mm, respectively. Both void ratio and permeability coefficient of pore concrete were affected by cavity diameter. © 2011 IEEE.
