The acid rain observation system usually includes the measurements and analysis of p H value and electric conductivity. The measuring principles of p H value and electric conductivity are discussed in the paper. An acid rain observing instrument is developed, which uses ARM microcomputer LPC2368 as control core, and p H composite glass electrode, platinum black electric conductivity electrode and platinum resistance –Pt100 as sensitive devices. It not only has high measuring accuracies by using the AD7792 as analog-digital conversion chip, but also has advantages in low cost, small volume and low power consumption. In addition, SD card is adopted to store the measuring data and CAN bus is used to communicate with PC to build acid observing network. The tests indicate that the acid rain observing instrument services high measuring accuracies for the p H value and electric conductivity of acid and provides important reference information for environmentalmonitoring.

The system uses wireless sensor nodes to detect a variety of water quality parameters transmitted to the on-site monitoring host computer through sink node wirelessly. The control module consists of fuzzy controller and decoupling neural network without the need of environmental model identification. The paper presents a new system used for starting the diesel engine of the LDH1250HP locomotive, for improving its performances, reliability and availability. The system developed uses rapid release storage devices, a power electronic unit and a computer linked with all the distributed system elements, by using Ethernet bus. Also, the paper describes an intelligent data acquisition system integrated with the starting system and developed to monitor the electrical parameters of the LDH1250HP locomotive. The proposed monitoring system allows evaluating the electrical locomotive parameters and the overall system performances. The details of implementation and the experimental results are also presented. The technical implementation allows a significant reduction of exploitation cost and carbon footprint of the locomotive.
