Software runtime state provides rich information to do various analysis of the system. However, the current runtime monitoring techniques entangle state fetching logic and corresponding processing logic, which limits the use of the state information and doesn't support information synthesizing either. In this paper, we proposed a runtime state fetching method which separates them. We designed a State Fetching Description language (SFDL) to describe state monitoring requirement, and implemented a compiling framework to compile the SFDL into monitor probes, gather runtime state information and store them in a general form for future use. Such design separates the state fetching logic from information processing logic, liberates the runtime state information from specific usage and makes it possible to synthesize runtime state information which is important for distributed system to get the overall state. In the end, we applied our approach to performance tuning on a distributed system. Based on the obtained detailed running state, we are able to identify some performance bottlenecks and improve the software. © 2010 IEEE.

Taking advantage of the technology of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), the radio frequency identification (RFID) and global system for mobile communication(GSM), this paper constructs a wireless communication and intelligent application system. WSNs combines with RFID system collect basic materials property data, materials environmental data perceived by all kinds of sensors and materials coordinate information by satellite and global position system (GPS). The information processing subsystem uses this real-time data transmitted by GSM to make intelligent control and decision support to the whole process of materials dispatching, therefore, relief supplies are send to all the settlements in time and with high quality. The whole intelligent system tackles the defects of the traditional disaster relief supplies dispatching and managing system such as non-intelligent data collection, non-real-time monitoring during the material transport processes and poor real-time scheduling. © 2010 IEEE.

There are many factors, such as temperature, humidity, concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide, influencing freshness of garden stuff. An intelligent monitoring system was designed to ensure the quality of it. In order to balance the environmental deviation between different areas, the system used multi-channel sensors to cycled check environment. Without effecting control accuracy, the system solved the problem that actuator shocked frequently by the mediate filter technology and fuzzy control approach. At the same time, the system improved relative humidity of clod store by time defrosting. Working principle of the system and design idea on hardware and software were introduced. The system centralized on LPC2103, used sensors to gather data and regulated cold store's environment through program. The practical results show that this system is simple, stable and easy to control. It can ensure garden stuff's quality effectively. © 2010 IEEE.

In order to save operating costs of sewage treatment plant, the SBR process was investigated with low DO condition by means of real-time control, when the reaction temperature was 21±0.5°C, aeration rate was 30 L/h, the pH, DO and ORP probe were monitored online and the real-time control strategy has been set up. The results showed that the variation of DO increased slowly in the first 145 minutes and then began to increase sharply until the end of the reaction, this period lasted for approximately 25 minutes and DO was 1.98 mg/L at last. When the DO increased sharply, NH4+-N in the system was completely removed. When the reaction time was 93min, the pH was the maximum. At this time, PO43--P in the reactor was completely removed, and this feature was helpful to remove phosphorus of the system by the real-time control. But this time there is no obvious change for the ammonia nitrogen and COD. And NO3--N has some accumulation. The variation of ORP remained decreasing during the anoxic period, and it began to increase since aeration until reached the positive value. When ORP was at the value of 0, the COD in the system met with the wastewater effluent standards but this feature was not very steady. Through the above online monitoring methods, the real-time control strategy has been set up in the process of wastewater treatment with low DO condition, and this method could save the energy. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper we deal with the design and analysis of an intelligent multi-agent-based architecture for synchronized real-time situational understanding, awareness, decision-making, and control in a geographically networked distributed computing environment. In particular, we focus here on the design and implementation of a middleware framework for agent intra and inter-node communication as well as computing nodes synchronization. While the proposed work finds applications in many areas including networked chemical sensors, large key infrastructures and resources such as highways and transportations, here as application of the proposed method we consider the challenging scenario case of a set of distributed collaborating radars (multi-agent) system geographically distributed over a large terrain environment with several moving targets. Here, each radar agent, taken separately, does not have the capabilities and resources to span the monitoring of the totality of a given large terrain. However, when collaborating with other radars distributed in the large terrain environment, each with similar limited capabilities, we show and illustrate the proposed distributed agents (radars) capability of not only monitoring their respective regions, but also tracking, communicating with neighboring agents, and decision-making, to collaborating span the monitoring the totality of a given large terrain. We show how the neighboring agent radars do not necessarily have to be running on the same computing node. Similarly, as part of the scenario we also consider the case of existence of friendly and unknown forces/stressors targets that are capable of moving throughout the same distributed environment. We show how the proposed algorithms are scalable. They are implemented on the CMINDS High Performance distributed Computing Engine (HDPC) test-bed taking full advantage of a distributed environment and multiple processing systems. © 2010 IEEE.

A "Smart Camp" solution is a new approach to provide a mining community consisting of multiple households in a remote area in Western Australia with a intelligent wireless network and automated information system. This system intends to automate, control and monitor numerous household devices;supplies the tenants with multi-media services and aims to reduce energy consumption as well as improving the workers habitat. This paper theorizes the big picture with considerations on: how to set up, integrate and create a cost-effective "smart" wireless home automation network solution. It attempts to improve employee quality of life while simultaneously reducing energy consumption and the related emissions. This paper puts forward greenhouse wireless sensor network monitoring system design based on solar energy. It transmits data through wireless receiving and sending equipment without setting up electric wiring. The system structure is simple, which saves the manpower and material resources. The monitoring and management center can control the temperature and humidity of the greenhouse, measure the carbon dioxide content, collect the information about intensity of illumination, monitor and control the pictures. In this way, then no manpower will be needed. Compared with ordinary wireless technology, this system design consumes less energy, costs less money and has large internet capacity. The sensor nodes receive the solar energy and supply it to the wireless sensor network. This system adopts MSP430 MCU with super low energy consumption and network transmitting chip nRF24L01 with low energy consumption to reduce system consumption as much as possible. What's more, this system adopts multilevel energy memory. It combines energy management with energy transfer, which makes the energy collected by solar energy batteries be used reasonably. Therefore, the self-managing energy supply system will be established, and the wireless nodes will receive permanent power supply and the wireless sensor network can be used without limitations. © 2010 IEEE.

A major trend in the oil and gas industry in the recent years have gone towards moving installations from the surface to the seabed utilizing existing surface based facilities or by developing new onshore facilities. Enabling this trend is an increased instrumentation of the equipment, down-hole and on the seabed. Increased instrumentation results in more data that has to be processed by human operators. Research shows that human operator information overload leads to poor decision making. To avoid information overload, we need a new breed of system where more of the information processing and decision making can be handled by computers. Over the last couple of years we have worked extensively with autonomous systems. We see autonomy as a vital property in this new breed of systems, where we have identified three scenarios that can benefit. These are: • Production and process optimization • environmental monitoring and control • Equipment condition monitoring The key elements of our approach are a combination of the distributed data processing capabilities of software agents with a variable autonomy approach to the interaction with the human operator. Variable autonomy enables a human operator to defer control to a system when the system state is within a given envelope. The system will escalate decision making to the human operator when it reaches its decision making boundary. The goal of our work is to make the human operator more capable of handling critical situations and prevent unwanted incidents by transforming the stream of data into information and proposed actions. The work will be focused around the transformation of data into decisions and the interaction between the human operator and the computer system.

Under voltage load shedding is an important method of emergency voltage control, according to the realization it can be divided into two ways, centralized and distributed. This paper proposed a centralized algorithm based on the improved genetic algorithm. First, an optimization model for the purpose of stabilizing voltage was established, and genetic algorithm is used to solve this problem, the genetic algorithm was improved by the means of real number encoding. Simulation results show that this algorithm can stabilize voltage with a small cost. ©2010 IEEE.

The Tasmanian ICT of CSIRO developed a Sensor Web test-bed system for the Australian water domain. This system provides an open platform to access and integrate near real time water information from distributed sensor networks. Traditional hydrological models can be adopted to analyze the data on the Sensor Web system. However, the requirements on high data quality and high level domain knowledge may greatly limit the application of these models. To overcome some these limitations, this paper proposes a data mining approach to analyze patterns and relationships among different hydrological events. This approach provides a flexible way to make use of data on the Hydrological Sensor Web.
