In order to intelligent central management of all kinds of separate high frequency vibrating screen, the network system is developed. The master uses industrial personal computer (IPC), the slave uses PIC16F877 MCU. Concrete hardware connection, serial communication program flow about MCU and serial communication program about IPC by using Visual Basic 6.0 are given. The system has been put into use. The practice shows that it has reasonable design and has good performance.

To scatter location and complex structure in distribution network, a kind of power distribution intelligence monitoring and energy management system based on distributed structure was developed in this paper. By using the technology of UML(Unified Modeling Language) and the computer network programming of GPRS, RS232, it introduce the design of hardware and deluxe applied software development platform for monitor check system. Based on the theories of the software engineering, the system decomposed of monitoring, control and alarm real time model, data management model and systems maintenance model. Multi-function data acquisition system collected data from energy meter. Voltage power distribution intelligent monitoring system is designed by analyzing the above models. It has the following functions: routine measure including voltage, current, power and so on. Besides, it has a beautiful and practical human machine interaction based on menu operation. In the section of the experiment, the results prove that the prototype has a good performance and reaches the expecting design requirements successfully.

We design a component based grid architecture on Globus. The system can be partitioned into two parts: a component support Grid environment, and a distributed user access gateway. The component support environment is composed of component container and basic component support services. Component container provides component run environment and manages the lifecycle of components, supplies component location service, component action service, component copy service, and component security and access control service, etc. The user access gateway offer user interface to access components, and provide component deploy tools for component providers. This architecture introduces RBAC technology to Globus to manage the user right for developing, deploying and making use of grid application components, makes the whole grid environment more secure and more usable.

Applying wireless sensor networks (WSNs) for bridge monitoring has received considerable interests over the past few years. In this paper two WSN-agility problems are identified based on the deployment experiences of WSNs in earthquake monitoring of bridges: (i) timely capturing the earthquake response of bridges and (ii) quasi-realtime processing of the measured data for bridge modal identification in monitoring the features of the structure. This paper also presents solutions for these problems: a pulse-based media access control scheme for the first problem and a distributed approach to modal identification by spectral methods for the second problem to address the combined agility issues. Results show the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

A signal processing approach is proposed to jointly filter and fuse spatially-indexed measurements captured from many vehicles. It is assumed that these measurements are corrupted by both sensor noise and GPS positioning uncertainties. Measurements from low-cost vehicle-mounted sensors (e.g., accelerometers and GPS receivers) are properly combined to produce higher quality road roughness data for cost-effective road surface condition monitoring. The proposed algorithms are recursively implemented and thus require only moderate computational power and memory space. These algorithms are important for future road management systems, which will use on-road vehicles as a distributed network of sensing probes gathering spatially-indexed measurements for condition monitoring in addition to other applications such as environmental monitoring. Our method and the related signal processing algorithms are tested using field data.

Adjusting the operation mode of the nodes in wireless sensor networks can extend the networks lifetime effectively. The distributed protocol PEAS reduces the network's consumption by a method which maintains only a necessary number of nodes working and the other nodes sleeping, but in this method some of the nodes' energy will be exhausted early because of their continuous working. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a sleep / wake-up mechanism using fuzzy control algorithm to control the networks' energy. With this algorithm, energy efficiency of nodes can be improved by limiting their energy consumption. Thus, energy consumption of network is more balance and the problem of energy "hole" caused by nodes' continual working has been solved. The simulation results show that this method can be applied in wireless sensor networks well and can save the energy of networks significant.

An intelligent control chart pattern recognition system is essential for efficient monitoring and diagnosis process variation in automated manufacturing environment. Artificial neural networks (ANN) have been applied for automated recognition of control chart patterns since the last 20 years. In early study, the development of control chart patterns recognizers was mainly based on generalized-ANN model. There has been an increasing trend among researchers to move beyond generalized recognizer particularly for addressing complex recognition tasks. However, the existing works mainly focus on univariate process cases. This paper aims to investigate an effective synergistic-ANN model for on-line monitoring and diagnosis multivariate process patterns. The recognition performances of a generalized-ANN and the parallel distributed ANN recognizers for learning dynamic patterns of multivariate process patterns were discussed.

We present a State Estimation based Internet traffic flow control system where the objective is to maximize the aggregate bandwidth utility of network sources over their transmission rates. The network links and sources are viewed as processors of distributed computation and the control mechanism is based on estimation and optimization framework to solve the dual problem. The novelty of our approach is that it allows network sources to estimate link bandwidth prices, based on the network state, rather than depending on the continuous price feedback from the network links. This is primarily to reduce the computational and communicational overhead of the routing process and to enable efficient resource allocation. The estimation framework also serves as network Management System to control hardware malfunctions, improves network monitoring and eliminates anomalies, such as measurement noise another discrepancies between network system models that typically leads to poor network performance. The approach is validated using two case studies in congestion and rate control which demonstrate favorable results in terms of enhanced data delivery with fewer packet losses and retransmissions. Moreover, our improved optimization framework in turn improves on network stability and responsiveness by allowing reduced buffer occupancy over congested links, which further enables low packet loss and low service delays.

This work reports the experience on the design and deployment of a WSN-based system for monitoring the productive cycle of high-quality wine in a Sicilian winery. Besides providing the means for pervasive monitoring of the cultivated area, the project described here is aimed to support the producer in ensuring the overall quality of their production, in terms of accurate planning of interventions in the field, and preservation of the stored product. Wireless Sensor Networks are employed as the sensing infrastructure of a distributed system for the control of a prototypal productive chain; nodes have been deployed both in the field and in the cellar, where wine aging is performed, and data is collected at a central unit in order to perform inferences that suggest timely interventions that preserve the grapes' quality.

In the development of the Web, semantics are seen as a central key to enable and to support smarter forms of collaboration and process control. In this context, semantics may be essential to manage future power systems with significant share of power generated by distributed energy resources in an intelligent way - as required in the framework of smart grid designs. The EU funded project S-TEN (intelligent self-describing technical and environmental networks) lays foundations for advanced monitoring systems and sensors by applying semantic Web technologies, Web services and rule-bases to potentially constantly changing networks composed of network components ranging from simple sensors to complex plants such as combined heat and power plants. This paper goes beyond the paper presented in the CIRED 2007 conference [1] and will present the results of the now finished S-TEN project (***) featuring the work being done to develop and use technologies designed to provide functionalities required by future power grids.
