The article presents the development and testing of low-cost Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks for air and soil monitoring in agricultural fields. The sensor ensemble for completing an air and soil monitoring point (MP) was founded. The Watermark sensors and automatic tensiometers for soil moisture monitoring at 2–3 depths, temperature and relative humidity sensors for air monitoring, and rain sensors for the validation of irrigation rate and precipitation recording were proposed. The structure of sensors and modules of the base station (BS), which collected the monitoring data in the field and sent it to the server, was proposed. The Internet-of-Things (IoT) network architecture and the data transmission methods were also proposed. To transmit monitoring data to a remote server and to make irrigation decisions, it was suggested to use LoRa radio and mobile Internet. The practical testing of networks was carried out in the farm of the Kherson region (Ukraine) in large area fields under sprinkling. The effect of crop height and the location of forest strips in the area between the BS and the monitoring points, and the necessary number of MP for one BS were determined. For stand-alone remote from BS monitoring points, it was recommended to use mobile Internet for data transmission. Unlike similar studies, the article analyzes the entire monitoring chain: from the formation of an air and soil sensor ensemble at the MP to the construction of a network of monitoring points in the field and equipment of BS. The complexity of the work is that it is recommended to combine the use of both LoRa and GSM for the transmission of the collected monitoring data. The monitoring data obtained through these networks is used as a feedback loop in the decision support system for sprinkling irrigation control. In the process of wastewater treatment, carbon sources have an important impact on denitrification, so accurate addition of carbon sources is of great significance to improve the quality of effluent from wastewater treatment, reduce costs and increase efficiency. In the past, most of the studies on carbon source dosing considered traditional mathematical calculation methods or manual experience, which lacked accuracy. In recent years, the carbon source dosing system of wastewater treatment has been gradually studied based on intelligent algorithms, but the established neural network has problems such as low efficiency, poor robustness and complex structure. Therefore, in order to solve the problem of low-carbon nitrogen ratio of influent water quality of domestic wastewater treatment plants in China, the Gate Recurrent Unit model and channel attention mechanism were incorporated into the carbon source dosing prediction model, and a new carbon source dosing prediction system for wastewater treatment plants was proposed. In this study, carbon source amount of Anaerobic-Anoxic-Oxic process of Rizhao Third Sewage Treatment Plant is taken as the research object, and the training verification was carried out based on the artificial neural network on the basis of multiple real-time monitoring data of influent water quality. The feasibility and robustness of this method are verified through the case study, which provides theoretical support for the carbon source dosing process of wastewater treatment. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Wireless ad-hoc networks are local area networks that are built without a centralized administration point. They are widely utilised in many applications, particularly those involving the Internet of Things (IoT), such as environmental monitoring, smart homes, smart agriculture, and many other IoT applications. However, when the network's size grows, network throughput rapidly declines, mainly because of more collisions. According to the IEEE 802.11 standard, the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance protocol is the basic medium access control technique used by the 802.11 standard, also known as the distributed coordination function. It uses the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm for collision avoidance. Avoiding collisions will optimize the network with regard to throughput. This paper proposes an improved dynamic backoff algorithm called Dynamic Enhanced Collision Resolution Algorithm (D-ECRA), which improves the recently introduced Enhanced Collision Resolution Algorithm (ECRA) by replacing the contention window exponential increment with a less aggressive and dynamic contention window increment based on the network’s size. The Register Transfer Level (RTL) design of D-ECRA is proposed using Verilog HDL. Results demonstrate that D-ECRA surpasses BEB and ECRA with regard to throughput with a maximum improvement percentage of 4% and 1.2% respectively. Also, results showed that D-ECRA performed better than ECRA with regard to delay with a maximum improvement percentage of 43%. This thesis shows the assessment process for D-ECRA including simulation parameters and test scenarios for both system and RTL modelling.

In this paper, the expert system of artificial intelligence automatic control system is designed to identify each stage of the internal fermentation reaction process of food waste anaerobic fermentation tank, and complete the real-time monitoring and whole process control. By automatically adjusting the temperature, pH, pressure and other environmental factors in the tank, the heat-resistant anaerobic fermentation bacteria in the fermenter are in a suitable growth environment, and the efficiency and quality of methane production by anaerobic fermentation bacteria are improved. The intelligent system can complete all the work such as feeding, adjusting environmental parameters in the tank, stirring, collecting and monitoring methane production, and removing primary reactants. It can automatically identify various parameters in the tank from the whole process of feeding to discharging. Display and save the data, report the abnormal situation in time and take the corresponding processing procedures. The direct control of anaerobic fermentation tank adopts STM32 single chip microcomputer and DSP as the lower machine, laptop computer as the upper machine, equipped with expert ***-Fe3O4 iron powder was innovatively used to complete the work of temperature regulation module and agitation module, and the fermentation efficiency of anaerobic bacteria was improved.

In response to the weak environmental infrastructure of Antarctic greenhouses, the inability to automate operation and low reliability, a remote monitoring platform for the Antarctic greenhouse was developed, which integrates functions such as database management, image acquisition and remote data communication. An infrared high-resolution and high-speed digital camera was used in the greenhouses and with its cradle head;it is convenient to monitor the scene in 360°. The monitory software was developed using the SDK provided by the manufacturer to realize the functions of image displaying, capturing and console control. Furthermore, a communication software module was developed to transfer operational data and image files from Antarctic greenhouse to data center in Shanghai, China. The entity–relationship model was adopted for database designing, and the SQL Server database was used for data storing. And after a common communication protocol was studied for transferring database tables and image files, a flow chart of communication was designed, and separate threads were used for the transfer of image files to improve the efficiency. Using the socket technology to transfer the operational data and image files to the data center of Shanghai, people could obtain environmental parameters, running status and the information of plant images in the greenhouse. After the system was installed in the greenhouse of the Great Wall Station in Antarctica, it realized the remote monitoring of the crop’s growth in the greenhouse. The operational data showed that the system works stably, and the transmission of data is accurate, providing a guarantee for the operation of the greenhouses in Antarctica. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This research project has successfully built a distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) based prototype using R3 Corda open source. Its purpose applies in the oil & gas underground injection control (UIC) operations for the underground aquifer protection. This DLT prototype is a permissioned network that allows oil & gas companies to create, disseminate, and trace immutable records. The network enables oil and gas companies, government regulatory agency, and all other participants to share secure records such as well information while maintaining data integrity, traceability, and security. The purpose is to create a network of trust among all the stakeholders in the UIC processes for underground aquifer protection. In this DLT network, a company submits well information, which will be digitally signed and notarized. Unauthorized changes to the information, ownership, or history will become infeasible, thanks to the underlying cryptographic technologies of DLT. The network designs so that information stored and communicated will have a high level of trustworthiness. Every participant in the network can get simultaneous access to a common view of the data. Corda platform also provides multiple functionalities, e.g., Smart contract, Vault, Identity Management, Scheduler, Notary Services, etc. Many of the functionalities automate the data processing within the DLT databases. This project's results expect to enhance public safety and improve the aquifer protection review and operational processes. Kern County uniquely poises for a project to develop more streamlined, effective, and entirely digitized DLT-based workflows that will secure regional environmental data integrity. Water contamination is a primary concern in a region where water and petroleum play vital roles in the economy. Both industries and regulatory agencies pay close attention to environmental quality. The "Geological Cloud 2.0"intelligent search system is an engine for fast search of data resources and systems on the cloud. The geological environment sub-node of "Geological Cloud 2.0"as one of distributed sub-nodes on the cloud provides data information for intelligent search. In order to serve better the "Geological Cloud 2.0"intelligent search, the metadata and exchange format of the geological environment entity database was defined to construct intelligent search indexing. And the metadata content interactive push process was introduced from the geological environment sub-node entity database to "Geological Cloud 2.0"intelligent search system. The results show that the geological environmental sub-node search information for Geological Cloud 2.0 intelligent search is synchronized with entity database and has attention, which provides experience for the construction and upgrade of the "Geological Cloud"intelligent search in the future. © 2020 IEEE.

The seismic event of 6 April 2009 has inevitably left its mark on the history of the entire territory of L'Aquila (Italy), completely devastating the town and much of the province. Within such frantic and extensive reconstruction activity, the resulting construction works could not but draw attention to some issues of fundamental importance such as coordinated planning, safety, respect for the rules and above all the rebirth of the territory. This research is aimed at drawing up the site plan for Fossa, a municipality in the Province of L'Aquila and not far from the region capital of Abruzzo, Italy. The main objective is to create a monitoring standard by means of a dedicated sensors network and detailed strategies in order to coordinate, guide and support the single actions of intervention through design behaviours and highly technological tools. The Plan is configured as a tool for participatory planning, with the active involvement of planners, companies and citizens, whose common goal is the preservation of the identity of locations, the mitigation of seismic risk and the enhancement of the cultural heritage of the Municipality of Fossa. Implementation of this work is the application of technological systems for construction site monitoring: a concrete response to the growing demand for organized management of the construction process on site and safety in the workplace can be achieved through the use of systems and rational control and management procedures that include the use of innovative technologies. © 2021 international Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. We consider strongly NP-hard problem of two-machine task scheduling with due dates and minimizing of the total weighted tardiness. Task execution times are random variables. We propose methods of intermediate review of solutions, the so-called ‘block properties’, which we use in the tabu search algorithm.
