This paper introduces the design of intelligent greenhouse control system based on Internet of things. The system uses LORA wireless network to upload various sensor data in real time and controls the relevant equipment according to the demand automatically or manually. These uploaded data are collected inside the agricultural greenhouse and include illumination, water flow, inlet pipe pressure, power supply voltage, soil temperature and humidity, air temperature and humidity, etc. The host computer monitoring software performs data display, curve drawing, data storage, automatic or manual control the monitoring nodes. In order to meet the requirements of environmental control in the growing period of many crops, monitoring software allows users to set the temperature, humidity and illumination control curves. The system will carry out remote automatic control according to the target values of the control objects to achieve intelligent management of agricultural greenhouses. At the same time, the system also allows operators to monitor the greenhouse operation data remotely via mobile phones, and manually control the relevant equipment in the greenhouse. The system has been applied to many cash crop planting bases successfully. The operation results show that the system can greatly improve the operation efficiency and crop quality of the greenhouse, improve the growth environment in the greenhouse, and has a certain popularization value. © 2019 IEEE.

Traffic-aware auto-configuration protocol for service oriented low-power and lossy networks in IoT

Many diversified services can be offered by smart objects, referred to herein by nodes, in low-power and lossy networks (LLNs) contributing to the Internet of Things (IoT). A distributed naming and registration system, complying with the Internet protocol standard, is needed for unique identification of these nodes and their provided services in many areas such as monitoring and remote control. Due to the high expected number of IoT nodes, manual configuration is not practical, and an efficient auto-configuration mechanism is essential. Although the multicast domain name system (mDNS) is the most common distributed naming protocol nowadays, it is not optimized for constrained LLN nodes in IoT. This work proposes enhanced mDNS (E-mDNS) which augments mDNS with three proposed enhancements: the persistent-based selection stage, the simultaneous start-up enhancement, and the announcement suppression mechanism. Using the Cooja emulation platform, we evaluate both the mDNS and E-mDNS for a wide range of conditions and network sizes, and produce a large array of performance figures that includes number of control packets, energy consumption for CPU and radio transmissions, memory footprint, and others. Through the evaluation of the fairness index for a wide range of number of nodes, we demonstrate that E-mDNS provides better load balancing for the collection of nodes in the network relative to mDNS. Furthermore, results indicate that while E-mDNS produces a memory footprint in RAM that is only 4.2% more than that for mDNS, E-mDNS manages to significantly reduce the number of control packets by an average of 34.8% for the considered range of network size. Accordingly, the corresponding reduction in energy consumption for radio transmissions and CPU is 46.7% and 47.5%, respectively. The evaluation shows that these reductions are greater for larger number of nodes.

A distributed database of cloud platform for the lower-limb exoskeleton robot is developed in this paper, which is to solve the problem of large data storage when long-term monitoring of multiple exoskeleton robots. The architecture of the cloud platform is present. In terms of the data information of the robot and human body, a distributed database is built by using MyCat and MySQL. The interface between the database and the front-end web page is developed. The experiment indicates that the database of the cloud platform is able to remotely collect the information such as the joint angles of the robot which is also displayed on the web page.

Population ageing causes one of the greatest challenges nowadays, namely the improvement of the health condition, independence, quality of life and life expectancy of the elderly. Systems based on Internet of Things and Big Data analytics are being increasingly used in order to improve the medical process in terms of both quality and duration. Population ageing has significant implications for healthcare for the elderly. Geriatric professionals can help older adults manage complex healthcare needs. Geriatric assessment helps diagnose medical conditions, develop treatment plans, coordinate care management and assess the need for long-term care. The healthcare professionals need to monitor and assess the health status of the elderly with tools, systems and technologies, to process the large amount of information involved in these activities and to provide additional data and recommendations for adjusting their medication and treatment. In this regard, we propose a platform that uses these technologies in order to predict the chronic deterioration of health status, both physical and mental, in elderly and to evaluate the impact that different physiological and ambient parameters have in the development of the disease.

At present, most poultry environmental control systems are designed for specific needs, and some users with large farming scale can only manage each breeding place separately, causing some problems as complication and difficulty in analyzing and utilizing information. In order to solve these problems, we have designed and developed a master-slave distributed large-scale poultry farming measurement and control system, with a network model adopting a total star-shaped structure, a cloud service monitoring center manages multiple lower-machine monitoring sub-stations. Each sub-machine monitoring sub-station completes their respective tasks according to different need. The experiment proves that the system network have good connectivity of the nodes and strong control, which can quickly collect the environmental information of the subordinate station monitoring substation. The system network can also carry out the edge network calculation and processing analysis on the data from the poultry house environment through the sensor to reduce the time delay. Therefore, the system can reasonably control the poultry house environment and make it in a state of dynamic balance. It overcomes the problem of insufficient control force, eliminates the hidden danger in manual management, expands the control scope, and improves the automatic control ability of poultry house environment.

This paper studies the possibilities of fusing the concepts of smart environments and continuous and discrete systems simulation into a single system where identification of parameters, dynamics modelling and the choice of adequate control actions can be performed in real-time. The goal is to develop a model of a distributed IoT system capable of intelligent and dynamic adjusting of structure and system parameters with respect to the set goals. This goal is achieved in two phases. In the first phase, the modelling of the nodes in the smart environment is performed through defining interconnected IoT devices that can gather data via sensors, perform control actions via actuators, and perform basic computing operations. In the second phase, hierarchical modelling of smart environments is performed by developing complex mathematical models that use collected data to calculate performance indicators, perform simulations, initiate control actions and support decision making. Both phases are supported by specific software components, some running in the cloud and some distributed on the edge devices. The developed approach is applied for modelling the system for traffic noise monitoring in a smart city.

A Microgrid (MG) is an independent grid with both load and its own generation that has the option to be connected to the grid or can be islanded. intelligent monitoring and control of MG make it as a building block for smart grid technology. With automation and distributed control, load and generation management can be done remotely. We are currently running a campus MG with high efficiency combined heat and power (CHP) generation and renewable energy sources. The space heating is achieved by the recaptured unused heat from CHP generators. The rotatory loads connected to the MG is monitored by the smart wireless enabled sensors that can be accessed by using the internet. A distributed control system (DCS) from our industry partner ABB Inc. (800- XA system) is providing remote control and protection of MGs critical components using multiple industry standard communication protocol (Modbus, Profibus etc.). The study shows that the controlling of water flow to the CHP generator by using remote automation technology provide higher thermal recovery for space heating. Also the smart monitoring and distributed control provide energy savings and warning for preventive maintenance. © 2019 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Waste incineration is proved as an effective option for waste management but evokes the Not-In-My-BackYard (NIMBY) syndrome. Information and communication technologies may contribute to highly efficient, sensing monitoring and control of better waste incineration decision making. However, the application is dominated by continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS), which has several inherent defects. This paper presents a cyber-physical system (CPS) to promote the environmental performance of waste incineration and alleviate the NIMBY syndrome. The proposed CPS comprehensively focuses on the whole process of waste incineration from waste pretreatment to pollutant emission handling the life cycle of waste incineration for pollution prevention and control. The CPS combines a group of real-time and near real-time sensing and monitoring technologies distributed in different application scenes to aid in the supervision of waste incineration so as to optimize the operational efficiency. The local stakeholders are also connected to such a CPS as part of the community-right-to-know action, with the aid of in-situ data processing, cloud storage, and cloud computing in the computer network layer of the CPS. The application layer of the CPS combines the advantages of various kinds of systems analysis models to extract the implication from big data, for the sake of improving the performance of waste incineration. Using unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with sensors for verification and post-evaluation was carried out by a "system of systems" engineering approach.

A model complex and algorithms for assessing the technical condition (TC) and reliability of the launch vehicle (LV) "Soyuz-2" with the decision support (DS) for managing its life cycle (LC) is considered in the article. On the basis of the analysis of modern problems and the requirements for the efficiency, quality and reliability of the assessment of the LV and the reliability of LV, it was concluded that it is necessary to use the new intelligent information technology (IIT), presented in the article, when designing the automated monitoring systems of the condition and DS for managing the LC LV "Soyuz-2". As a theoretical basis for this technology, the modification of the generalized computational model (GCM) as a knowledge representation model, allowing to build simulation-analytical model-based complexes for monitoring conditions and managing complex organizational and technical objects (COTO), is considered.

In this work, we present an intelligent system developed for energy consumption distributed control and monitoring. It supports real time cloud-based data visualization of power profiles from different areas, so as to optimize overall power consumption. The local intelligent processing unit (LIPU) that control the different environments is described. The communication network model that allows connecting multiple LIPUs to apply power consumption policies defined by the organization is analyzed, and the unit’s capabilities in relation to cloud connectivity and real-time processing are considered through a theoretical scalability study. Finally, we describe relevant implementation features in the context of "Facultad de Informática" of the "Universidad Nacional de La Plata" (Argentine). © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
