Ubiquitous computing is extending its applications to an increasing number of new domains. The implementation of most of the newly appeared scenarios needs to follow guidelines coming from an expert of Interaction Design (IxD). In this paper we present a work-in-progress framework to conduct human-computer and computer-computer interactions and a tool for IxD applying it, as case studies, both in home and museum scenarios. Our framework uses multi-modal interaction and smart-devices;the main computational effort is dedicated to the design of a distributed chain of control monitoring sensors, devices and humans in the environment. The framework aims at merging concepts from the intelligent Environments with those coming from Natural User Interaction theories. Moreover, the system includes designing procedures to support developers and users to produce new application just working on higher level layers separated from the infrastructural technologies. Preliminary results, coming from tests in Wizard of Oz, highlight potentialities of our framework.

Among the many environmental factors that affect cultural relics protection, humidity is the most important factor, and there are different humidity requirements for different materials. In order to preserve the artifacts in the museum, a small, accurate and stable humidity control system based on the fuzzy PID algorithm is designed and implemented. The system is divided into the host computer monitoring, humidity control equipment, field instrumentation and control algorithm four parts. The host computer uses the common PC, and uses C # to monitor the software programming; humidity control equipment uses the ARM Cortex ™-M3 kernel STM32F103ZET6 and its expansion module with the man-machine interaction module to carry on the operation; Field instrument mainly by the DS18B20 temperature sensor, SHT15 digital temperature and humidity sensors, fans, TEC cooling film composition. The temperature and humidity decoupling algorithm and the fuzzy PID self - tuning humidity control algorithm based on fuzzy control and PID control are designed. On the basis of the PID control, by calculating an error E and error change rate EC of the current system, the fuzzy inference using the fuzzy rules, fuzzy matrix table query self-tuning PID parameters to achieve precise control system. The results show that the system reduces the overshoot by 4.55% compared with the conventional PID control, and reduces the system adjustment time by 40.5%, which greatly improves the control effect.

The wisdom of public security is an important part of the wisdom of the city, to mobilize the masses to patrol and control is the key of public security. In order to solve the difficult issue of people-management, need to promote the management technology of information by using the methods of science and technology, Internet. The tower-management system arises at the historic moment. The system is equipped with intelligent device, GIS information system, regional grid system, supporting the use of GPS positioning system and service monitoring command center, it can manage and dispatch all the people of the region for daily-scheduling. The kernel development kits of the system is based on Java language, combined with J2EE technology architecture, and mobile communication technology, database sharding technique, No SQL database technology, massive distributed file service technology. The tower management system includes web service terminal and mobile client app in two parts. The experimental results show that the system has the characteristics of safety, reliability, intelligence expansion, standard open, easy to use and so on.

In this work, the proposed intelligent Indoor Environment monitoring System in Cloud (iDEMS) combines environmental sensors with ZigBee wireless sensor network technology to store and process environmental data in HBase. The environmental data collected by sensors will be stored and processed in the cloud using HBase, which supports storing large amounts of data, free to easily increase storage space. The iDEMS also can compute through Hadoop MapReduce for the HBase database to do distributed computing or cloud computing to process environmental records. In this part, we particularly Take great effort to improve the performance of read and write in big data and provide functions, including information searching, data filtering, and basic statistics. In addition, iDEMS integrated with an intelligent control socket to effectively improve the air quality of indoor environment and reduce the concentration of pollutants in the environment to keep people far from pollutants. Finally, IDEMS presents the environmental information by a web-based monitoring platform so that users can use the Internet to monitor the environment and adjust the indoor environment at any time, any place as wanted.

In order to make full use of the solid wastes, an energy internet is designed for Laogang base, the biggest place to recycle wastes in Shanghai. This energy internet combine heat and methane with electricity on the basis of current multi-energy system in Laogang to increase energy utilization rate and improve energy quality. For better supervisory control of the energy internet, intelligent monitoring devices which can process data from time to time are installed there. The data collected will be used to analyse the circumstance of factories or facilities after comprehensive calculation. In addition, a corresponding cloud platform has been built to display analytical graph to both Administrators and users so that expected response will be achieved.

Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques are being increasingly used for automatic monitoring and control systems, especially regarding industrial and environmental applications, due to their performance, their capabilities in fusing noisy or incomplete data obtained from heterogeneous sensors, and the ability in adapting to variations in the operational conditions. Moreover, the increase in the computational power and the decrease of the size of the computing architectures allowed a more pervasive use of CI techniques in a great variety of situations. In this paper, we propose a brief review of the most important CI techniques applied in each step of the design of a monitoring and control system for industrial and environmental applications, and describe how these techniques are integrated in the development of efficient industrial and environmental applications. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper proposes an process/environmental parameters monitoring framework based on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) using embedded systems. The developed system will have many applications particularly in the area of aquaculture, tea plantations, vineyards, precision agriculture, green houses monitoring etc. The complexity of the system increases for applications involving aquaculture. The developed systems are tailored for sensing in wide farmland's without (or) very little human supervision. The fully designed and developed system consists of sensors for monitoring the parameters, sensor node with wireless network topology, gateway for collecting the information from the sensor node and transmitting the information to the central control unit. Data base, real-time monitoring and visualization facilities, controlling of sensor nodes and sensors are provided at the central control unit. Sensor nodes, sensor assembly and gateways should with stand demanding environmental conditions like rain, dust, heat, moisture, relative humidity etc. With these systems deployed in large farm's bodies the scientist's will have more and more field data with very little human intervention. The acquired data can be used to provide quantitative indications about the farm's status, thus easy for analysis and decision making. In this paper we are focusing our discussion about WSNs in the field of aquaculture.

Aiming at the situation of lacking automation and informatization for the tunnel construction ventilation, this article proposed a monitoring system based on the fieldbus technology. The monitoring system consisted of three parts including the monitor cabinet, the local control cabinet and the fieldbus sensors. A monitoring program, which was written by the WinCC software, ran on the monitor cabinet. All the environmental parameters and working parameters could be displayed in the monitoring program. Meanwhile, a Programmable Logical computer (PLC) was used as the master station of the Modbus network, which collected all the parameters from all the slave station sensors. In the local control cabinet, a PLC was used to receive all the parameters from the master station, and display them on the local screen. The transducer which drove the ventilator was also a slave station receiving the control signal from the master station to change the airflow. This system was tested at the construction ventilation project department in Tianmu mountainous tunnel. The result showed that this system improved the automation and informatization level of the tunnel construction ventilation monitoring system and reduced the cost of tunnel construction ventilation.

This paper reviews the historical background, present state, future challenges and opportunities of control, Automation and Protection systems for a modern Combined Cycle (CC)/Co-generation Power plant. As the demand for lean, efficient, agile, and environmental friendly and low cost green energy methods grow, the need to automate combined cycle power plant process and auxiliaries continues. The recent monitoring and control system for a modern combined cycle power plant including the characteristics of the integration of the systems are discussed here. The latest high-performance, high-capacity process controller-based total plant Automation system and Triple Module Redundant (TMR), multifunction controller with distributed control architecture, high performance PROFIBUS and HART communication protocol, IEC 61850 global communications protocol for substation automation and power distribution systems, tolerance to data rushes during transients and integrated comprehensive plant management system are presented here. This paper also reviews the developments of the high speed data communications and the huge storage equipment enable to construct the monitoring and control systems efficiently. This paper also compares the present, past and future generation of different types of control and automation technologies for Gas Turbine Generator (GTG), Heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), Steam Turbine Generator (STG) and Balance of Plant (BOP) of a CC power plant. Today's all subsystems of large combined cycle power plants including (HRSG) and BOP system can be controlled from a central control room through a state-of-the-art automation. This paper reviews various aspects of the implementation of the standard modern automation and control system for a combined cycle power plant and shows how devices integrate into distributed control system environment. © 2016 IEEE.

Perimeter detection and surveillance by autonomous agents in the form of autonomous robots has become one of the most used solutions concerning both environmental and human safety problems. Being part of distributed control systems, such robots support conventional pollution prevention systems. On the other hand, in the last decade wireless sensor networks (WSN) have provoked the interest of specialists from different areas by imposing a large number of theoretical and practical challenges related to their implementation. This paper presents a possible way for inclusion of mobile robots into a hybrid WSN structure, that can be suitable for solving pollution area detection and surveillance issues. The goal is to transform the WSN network into an adaptive sensor system with intelligent behavior which can be used to discover and track the perimeter of spots or areas where given monitored environmental parameters violate defined thresholds. A robotized agent can provide flexibility with respect to the installation of the network sensors and allow reliable information gathering and transfer. The proposed algorithmic method has been tested on a pre-built laboratory prototype of a hybrid WSN. The robotized agents (mobile nodes) in its structure have been built using nonholonomic autonomous wheeled mobile robots iRobot Create equipped additionally with a single-chip computer Gumstix Verdex pro TM XL6P with various expansion modules.
