Network-Based Real-time Integrated Fire Detection and Alarm (FDA) System with Building Automation

Fire alarm systems have become increasingly an important lifesaving technology in many aspects, such as applications to detect, monitor and control any fire hazard. A large sum of money is being spent annually to install and maintain the fire alarm systems in buildings to protect property and lives from the unexpected spread of fire. Several methods are already developed and it is improving on a daily basis to reduce the cost as well as increase quality. An integrated Fire Detection and Alarm (FDA) systems with building automation was studied, to reduce cost and improve their reliability by preventing false alarm. This work proposes an improved framework for FDA system to ensure a robust intelligent network of FDA control panels in real-time. A shortest path algorithmic was chosen for series of buildings connected by fiber optic network. The framework shares information and communicates with each fire alarm panels connected in peer to peer configuration and declare the network state using network address declaration from any building connected in network. The fiber-optic connection was proposed to reduce signal noises, thus increasing large area coverage, real-time communication and long-term safety. Based on this proposed method an experimental setup was designed and a prototype system was developed to validate the performance in practice. Also, the distributed network system was proposed to connect with an optional remote monitoring terminal panel to validate proposed network performance and ensure fire survivability where the information is sequentially transmitted. Home automation technologies have emerged more than four decades ago, but are undeniably a current subject of interest. Existing systems are usually highly customized, therefore expensive or very sophisticated and complicated, most of which requiring dedicated network cabling. The present paper presents a system for monitoring and control of an ordinary house in a simple and inexpensive manner. The ZigBee protocol is chosen so as to provide a reliable and secure wireless communication without additional cabling required. The data is transmitted to a computer that records and monitors any eventual threshold crossings. The control part is represented by simple means of acting upon an LED, based on data collected from the sensor network and processed accordingly.

The focus of this paper is a novel intelligent Distribution Panel (IDP) for controlling and monitoring power quality in small-scale ac power grids. A prototype ten-channel IDP capable of managing up to 38 kW is demonstrated. Each channel includes a relay and supports high-frequency current monitoring for smart metering. The ac current's fundamental and harmonic content up to the 7th harmonic are precisely measured and the state of each channel can be controlled. A low -power single -board computer is used to perform data acquisition and facilitate energy management. Tasks such as frequency locking and real-time power monitoring are implemented using a digital Multiple Second Order General Integrator - Frequency Locked Loop (MSOGI-FLL) algorithm. The measured frequency and the extracted real and reactive power have an accuracy within 1 % for the majority of the operating conditions.

The multifunctional intelligent information sensor system is developed by using of nanostructured multilayer thickfilm structures based on spinel-type NiMn2O4-CuMn2O4MnCo2O4 manganites and magnesium aluminate MgO-Al2O3. The technological features of nanostructured sensor preparation are represented. The diagram of this system is proposed. This system with microprocessor signal processing is shown to be successfully applied for integrated temperature/humidity environment monitoring and control.

We propose three modeling methods using a mobile sensor network to generate high spatio-temporal resolution air pollution maps for urban environments. In our deployment in Lausanne (Switzerland), dedicated sensing nodes are anchored to the public buses and measure multiple air quality parameters including the Lung Deposited Surface Area (LDSA), a state of the art metric for quantifying human exposure to ultrafine particles. In this paper, our focus is on generating LDSA maps. In particular, since the sensor network coverage is spatially and temporally dynamic, we leverage models to estimate the values for the locations and times where the data are not available. We first discretize the area topologically based on the street segments in the city and we then propose the following three prediction models: i) a log-linear regression model based on nine meteorological (e.g., temperature and precipitations) and gaseous (e.g., NO2 and CO) explanatory variables measured at two static stations in the city, ii) a novel network-based log-linear regression model that takes into account the LDSA values of the most correlated streets and also the nine explanatory variables mentioned above, iii) a novel Probabilistic Graphical Model (PGM) in which each street segment is considered as one node of the graph, and inference on conditional joint probability distributions of the nodes results in estimating the values in the nodes of interest. More than 44 millions of geo- and time-stamped LDSA measurements (i.e., more than 14 months of real data) are used in this paper to evaluate the proposed modeling approaches in various time resolutions (hourly, daily, weekly and monthly). The results show that the three approaches bring significant improvements in R-2, RMSE and FAC metrics compared to a baseline K-Nearest Neighbor method.

Acoustic pollution in the past is insignificant when compared with urban environmental noise today. The control of environmental noise, in comparison to other pollutants, had been hampered by insufficient knowledge of its effects on humans. This work presents several results about the urban acoustic impact. The experimental place is the Historical Centre of Mexico City. A distributed wireless monitoring system was developed and installed. Each node includes a half-inch pre-polarized IEC 61672 Class 1 microphone mounted 4m above the road surface in a weatherproof case, a dynamic range data acquisition card, an industrial computer and wireless connection to Internet by means of a 3G Mobile Broadband. The noise level measurements at each point are made every 30 seconds, at 25 Ks/s and 24-bit resolution analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC), and the data sent to the main monitoring station every five minutes. Additionally, this paper presents a neural recognition model of five dominant environment noise sources in the measured signal mixture which is common in some critical points in urban areas. © 2015 IEEE.

With the modernizing lifestyle, more and more amusements and sports could be done indoor. The time people spend in indoor activities accounts for eighty percent. Air quality indoor has a great effect on human health. At present, widely used environmental monitoring equipment in the market is designed only to monitor environment, not support such appliances as humidifier and air purifier. Therefore, it is impossible to improve the quality of environment according to the results from real-time environmental monitoring equipment. Based on this requirement, the intelligent environmental monitoring equipment designed in this paper not only help people be well aware of environmental parameter whenever necessary but also provide extended interfaces for other devices. With these extended interfaces, the control for other household equipments would be achieved (switch in, switch off and adjusting). Then the air quality would be always excellent indoor.

Using wireless sensor network to monitor agricultural environments can provide decision support for precision agriculture. In this paper, combined with the sensor networks, mobile networks and remote database technology, a farmland environmental monitoring platform was designed and built, which can simultaneously monitor eight environmental parameters, such as atmospheric temperature, atmospheric humidity, soil temperature, soil moisture, temperature, illumination intensity, CO 2 concentration, PH value, etc. The overall structure of the system, the hardware and the software was designed, then real-time acquisition, transmission, remote monitoring and predictive analysis of the information on crop growth were implemented. Finally the system has been working normally in Longtan Lake greenhouse using solar energy on Wujin District, Changzhou, Jiangsu Province. The functional and performance testing showed its competent abilities on data service.
