This paper suggests a new schema for combining functionalities from the Personal ITS station and Vehicle ITS station. In CoMoSeF -project we are simplifying the In Vehicle Domain architecture by fusing the Human-machine interface (HMI), as specified by ETSI, and the Application Unit into one Application Unit unit that is running on the smartphone. In the Smartphone-Centric Service Model the Application Unit and the HMI reside in a nomadic device and the connection to the Communication and control Unit (CCU) is done utilizing WiFi. Both vehicle and roadside ITS stations communicate with other stations using standardized distributed environmental Notification Messages, DENMs. Those messages are received and sent via the CCU over IEEE802.11p. Messages are used to provide information about a specific driving environment, incident or some other traffic event to other stations. In CoMoSeF-project a basic In-vehicle signage (IVS) application implementation will be released. Also the Probe vehicle or road side unit (RSU) data use case can be easily implemented with this architecture. As an example of the implementation, we introduce a road weather measuring RSU station. The CoMoSeF vehicle ITS station provides a proof-of- concept of a Smartphone-centric service model, which is the first step forward to aftermarket V2X solutions during the transitional phase when VANET systems are not widely available yet.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) can experience faults during deployment either due to its hardware malfunctioning or software failure or even harsh environmental factors. This results into presence of anomalies in their time-series collected data. So, these anomalies demand for reliable detection strategies to support in long term and/or in large scale WSN deployments. These data of physical variables are transmitted continuously to a repository for further processing of information as data stream. centralized fault detection based on centralized approach has become an emerging technology for building scalable and energy balanced applications for WSN. In our work, we try to implement the distributed Fault Detection (DFD) algorithm in a central unit named SOFREL S550 which represent the base station or the sink node and detects the suspicious nodes by exchanging heartbeat messages in active manner. By analyzing the collected heartbeat information, the unit finally identifies failed nodes according to a pre-defined failure detection rule.

A Cyber-Physical System (CPS) is a network of hybrid systems, combinations of physical entities and software systems that control them. In contrast with an embedded system, a CPS is a large distributed network of many systems that asynchronously interact among themselves as well as directly with the physical world. Consequently, services provided by a CPS must be guaranteed to be dependable in different environmental contexts. Since CPS sites are heterogeneous, both in their hardware and software usage, and autonomous they might use different standards to enforce local dependability. It will be interesting to investigate a global homogeneous framework that automatically and unobtrusively monitors, and enforces dependability for CPS network as a whole. We propose an agent based autonomic architecture that provides global dependable functioning of CPS.

Nowadays ICT is becoming a key factor to enhance the energy optimization in our cities. At district level, real-time information can be accessed to monitor and control the energy distribution network. Moreover, the fine grain monitoring and control done at building level can provide additional information to develop more efficient control policies for energy distribution in the district. In this paper we present a distributed software infrastructure for district energy management, which aims to provide a digital archive of the city in which energetic information is available. Such information is considered as the input for a decision system, which aims to increase the energy efficiency by promoting local balancing and shaving peak loads. As case study, we integrated in our proposed cloud the heating distribution network in Turin and we present exploitable options based on real-world environmental data to increase the energy efficiency and minimize the peak request.

intelligent video surveillance systems deals with the monitoring of the real-time environment. It monitors the transient and persistent objects within a specific environment. This is not only designed for security systems and can also be applied for external environmental video surveillance. The basic background subtraction algorithm is used for the detection of moving object. A self-adapting, automatic updating background model is trained to adapt the slow and slight changes of the environment. The foreground object is detected when the subtraction of the current image and the background, which is already trained attains a threshold, the foreground moving object is considered as to be in current view. The mobile phone automatically notifies the control unit through SMS(Short Message Service)or by phone call. Background subtraction technique basically works by feature analysis, pixel differences and so on. Here for feature analysis k-nearest neighbour algorithm (k-nn) is implemented. This proposed system requires little memory and less storage space than the previous. This can be used in implementing mobile based security monitoring system.

Pipelines are one of the most widely used means for oil/gas and water transportation worldwide. These pipelines are often subject to failures like erosion, sabotage and theft, causing high financial, environmental and health risks. Therefore, detecting leakages, estimating its size and location is very important. Current pipeline monitoring systems needs to be more automated, efficient and accurate methods for continuous inspection/reporting about faults. For this purpose, several pattern recognition and data mining techniques have been brought into the research community. In light of the issues of low efficiency and high false alarm rates in traditional pipeline condition monitoring, in this paper, we have used negative pressure wave (NPW) coupled with intelligent machine learning techniques integrated in distributed wireless sensor network (WSN) to identify specific events beased on raw data gathered by individual sensor nodes. This collaborative approach reduces communication overhead to minimum by processing raw data on sensor nodes directly and reporting the detected events only. We apply the methods of support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and Gaussian mixture model (GMM) in multi-dimensional feature space. The suggested technique is validated using a serial publication of experimentation on a field deployed test bed, with regard to performance of detection of leakages in pipelines.

Today's platforms for long-term environmental monitoring (e.g. buoys or towers) typically host large solar panels and batteries. Ideally, miniaturized platforms could be used instead, so state of the art power management technique that takes into account battery levels and harvested energy to provide uniform sampling rate. However, the fixed pre-defined intervals is not desirable. The state-of-art adaptive sampling mechanism, optimal adaptive sampling algorithm (OSA) uses data uncertainty and past measurements to determine the optimal sampling rate at the cost of high computational complexity O(n~3), thus draining the batteries even further. Even if the sampling were done optimally, there are still significant challenges with data transmission. The state of the art approach for determining optimal transmission policy offers limited control over the energy-delay tradeoff and is not suitable to support wide range of applications ranging from real-time and delay-tolerant. To address these challenges, we have developed a novel power management framework that adapts sampling and transmission rates based on battery level, energy harvesting level and application-context (e.g. characteristics of the gathered data). Our framework is optimal in terms of energy efficiency with low computational complexity. We evaluate the performance of the proposed framework using datasets from two real-world deployments. Our results show that our approach saves significant amounts of energy (between 20% to 60%) by avoiding oversampling when the application does not need it and uses this saved energy to support sampling at high rates to capture event with necessary fidelity when needed.

One of the exciting emerging uses of DSRC/WAVE technology is the ability to monitor real-time road traffic conditions with high resolution, using beacons transmitted by individual vehicles, and make informed traffic control decisions such as traffic light timing or route advice. However, previous studies have shown that achieving a high level of accuracy in traffic density estimation requires very frequent beacon transmissions as well as a high adoption rate of the technology, which raises a scalability problem in dense urban settings and effectively requires a dedicated radio transceiver, precluding the wireless channel from being used for any other purpose at the same time. In this paper, we propose an approach that allows the wireless channel load due to beacon transmissions to be significantly reduced while retaining very low traffic estimation error levels, by using tools from traditional traffic theory (such as the Cell Transmission Model, CTM) to analyze position and speed signals from infrequent wireless beacons and predict the dynamics of the traffic behavior in between. Our approach is evaluated in a typical urban scenario consisting of a signalized intersection of multiple-lane roads, leading to new insights about how the value of the information in vehicles' beacons depends strongly on their location with respect to the intersection.

In order to guarantee the smooth progress of the work in power plant, the production equipment and tools should be real-time monitored. The traditional artificial and statistical management methods have been unable to adapt to the present needs, therefore this paper presents a new distributed intelligent monitoring system based on the technology of intelligent terminal equipment and Ethernet communication. The system could realize real-time functions, such as the monitoring of equipment and tools, data statistics, system control and system alarm. Wherein, the communication between the different monitoring modules is completed used RS485 bus, and the communication between the monitoring module and control module is completed through Ethernet. Experimental results show that the system could run stably and real-time monitor the dynamic changes in power plant, and has good application prospect.
