Automated car license plate recognition systems are developed and applied for purpose of facilitating the surveillance, law enforcement, access control and intelligent transportation monitoring with least human intervention. The challenging part of this system lies in accurately recognizing a non-standard plate that consists of various character fonts, character sizes, plate size, orientations, plate and character colors, materials, positions of numeric characters and alphabetic characters. The objective of the paper is to present our developed algorithms that cope with these practical variations in the context of non-standard Malaysian plate from image scene acquisition to optical character recognition. In each standard step of license plate recognition, we consider the processing of the plates under various environmental condition and non-standard formation of characters in real scene. The algorithm is tested with 500 Malaysian car plates in real-time and the result shown that the algorithm remains relatively robust under different conditions and car plate standard.

We consider a team of nonholonomic Dubins-car like robots traveling forward over paths with bounded curvatures in a planar region supporting an unknown scalar field. Every robot measures the field value at its location and has no communication facilities; the robots are anonymous to one another. The objective is to detect and localize the level set where the unknown field assumes a given value. We present a new distributed navigation and guidance strategy that ensures convergence of all robots to the desired level set and its subsequent display via stable circulation of the robots along this set. Moreover, this strategy prevents collisions between the robots and ultimately provides their sub-uniform distribution over the level set, so that the entire team effectively and representatively portrays this set. The proposed control strategy does not employ gradient estimation, which typically needs ineffective concentration of robots into tight clusters, and is non-demanding with respect to both computation and motion. Its mathematically rigorous justification is provided. The effectiveness of the proposed guidance law is confirmed by computer simulations and real-world experiments.

The current situation of environmental resources requires their efficient usage through efficient process control. But, process control can not be achieved without an essential component: the communication between all devices, such as sensors, controllers, actuators, programming stations etc. The aim is to achieve the irrigation process of plants in greenhouse conditions. Therefore, it is submitted a comprehensive application that proposes to be a distributedcontrol system including data acquisition and processing, both local and remote monitoring of the process parameters. The distributed system is based on modern equipment: Siemens Simatic PLCs and HMI, Memsic (e) over bar Ko Pro wireless sensors network, level sensors for irrigation tanks and actuators such as on/off valves and pumps. In terms of communication between equipments, an industrial bus and protocols were used - Profinet and wireless communication. The software part is provided by TIA Portal with STEP 7 and WinCC flexible RT and LOGO! Soft Comfort for programming the automation devices. ModbusTCP was used to develop the communication protocol between central devices.

Development and deployment of low-carbon energy technologies has been a national strategy of both the UK and China for a number of years, including the use of renewable generation technologies and the improvement of energy efficiency of operations and activities. The paper addresses several issues of generic importance to a residential microgrid system such as network modelling, advanced control and integration of intelligentmonitoring techniques. The system, comprising representative distributed generation technologies of photovoltaics, wind turbines and combined heat and power, has been simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC under different operational scenarios. Studies include the effect of environmental condition changes, control systems and power electronics on wind turbines and PV cells, and the mixture of wind/solar/CHP energy generation under dominance of each technology. The performance and dynamics of the system are examined against symmetrical and asymmetrical electrical faults to seek an optimal isolation and restoration of the distributed generation unit from the connected grid system. The system is composed of terminal monitoring subsystem, control subsystem and management terminal.
