Recent advancements in the embedded systems field have resulted in more complicated systems with application-specific blocks (IP cores), often known as System on Chip (SoC) devices. Several redundancy-based embedded designs provide reliability and safety for SoC in aeronautics, automotive, industrial automation, railway, and space. In this paper, a Safety System-on-Chip heterogenous1oo2 architecture is presented. The design is based on two open-source and proven in-use cores, LEON3 from Cobham Gaisler and RISCV processors SweRV EH1 from Western Digital. The SoC is implemented on a Xilinx FPGA system and supplemented with conventional peripherals from the Xilinx IP library and Cobham Gaisler. A software comparator is included for a diagnostic. Each core has independent IPs, and the software comparator evaluates data from both cores;in case of deviation, the system is rendered to an energized safe state. © MCCSIS *** rights reserved.

Contribution: A model for integrating data visualization into a multidisciplinary course. This innovative practice paper addresses the challenge of the need for data visualization literacy and the scarcity of time to introduce data visualization concepts and workflow in existing courses. Background: Data sensemaking is becoming a prerequisite for all data-driven activities, from engineering to agriculture and humanities. Students are encouraged to generate graphic visuals to support course deliverables (i.e., reports and presentations), interpret knowledge from data, and disseminate research results with little to no introduction to best practices for visually representing data. This article describes an innovative 16-week course introducing data visualization principles and best practices, visualization tools, GIS concepts, and hands-on experience with edge devices (i.e., NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino). The first eight weeks of the course were dedicated to data visualization principles and practices. The second half of the semester-long course introduced edge devices. Each student received a J2021-Edge AI Device with NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX 8GB module. A USB WIFI emulator and a 256GB NVMe SSD were also provided with each device to enable wireless network connectivity and expand onboard storage, respectively. The edge device component of the course comprised several lab-based activities to introduce students to the Linux operating system, command line tools, virtual environments, Python programming language, sensor integration, communication protocols, machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, and application development. The rationale for the instructional approach was to allow students to make meaningful connections between data visualization concepts learned in class and their application to visualizing and analyzing data acquired using edge devices. Using parallel coordinates plots to visualize and analyze high-dimensional data is a very useful and efficient geometry-based visualization approach, which aims at intuitively understanding and analyzing high-dimensional data which is frequently used in two-dimensional space. In this paper, we discuss the emergence and evolution of parallel coordinates plots and outline the importance of the emergence of parallel coordinates plots visualization methods in facilitating our analysis of high-dimensional data. Parallel coordinates are inherently limited in two points, with cross-overlapping lines and weak inter-dimensional relationships. The growth of data dimension and data volume made the research in parallel coordinates plots very crucial. Many researchers have carried out influentially technological innovation methods, while focusing on four influential directions: combining data mining, combining with dimensionality reduction, combining with human-computer interaction and combining with other visualization methods, making parallel coordinates plots a representative and significant tool of geometric visualization of high-dimensional data. Realizing the deep integration with data mining, human-computer interaction, computer graphics, cognitive science, psychology and many other disciplines is the biggest challenge faced by parallel coordinates plots in the future. Lamps are difficult to market via websites. Renderings and photographs of showrooms rarely fit consumer preferences and demands and the technical specifications for lighting are unintuitive and difficult to understand for non-experts. This poses a challenge for lighting system manufacturers and suppliers, as customers increasingly make purchases online. Giving customers the option to see how a lamp affects the environment would provide them with an intuitive way to find a suitable product. Unfortunately, expensive global illumination rendering methods are required to accurately simulate the effect of a specific lamp on the environment. However, contemporary methods are not suited for low-end consumer hardware or interactive web-applications. Therefore, we present a new texture-based global illumination method that simulates the effect of specific lamps on complex, polygonal 3D geometries on the GPU. Our method employs iterative light propagation to pre-compute the illumination in texture space, leveraging GPU-based bounding volume hierarchies. Our method can provide pre-calculated physics-based lighting on demand in under a second for interactive scenarios in browsers using WebGl - outperforming state-of-the-art offline renderers significantly. © 2024 University of West Bohemia. This paper combines computer graphics and building information modeling (BIM) technology to propose an innovative three-dimensional visualization optimization algorithm for water conservancy buildings. The algorithm combines BIM data with efficient rendering technology in graphics, and proposes a method based on multi-level model generation and detail processing optimization to improve the rendering speed and accuracy of three-dimensional models. In the experimental part, a BIM model of a large water conservancy project was used for testing. The results show that compared with the traditional rendering method, the algorithm has improved the rendering accuracy by 18.5% and the rendering speed by 30%. In practical applications, this algorithm can effectively reduce the rendering time while ensuring the details and accuracy of the model, providing more accurate and efficient visualization support for water conservancy construction projects. In addition, the visualization effect is displayed through a virtual reality platform, which further verifies the superior performance of the algorithm in a virtual reality environment. The results of this study show that the innovative algorithm based on BIM and computer graphics cannot only improve the design and construction efficiency of water conservancy buildings, but also optimize the engineering management process, and has strong application value and promotion prospects.

Barrio: Customizable Spatial Neighborhood Analysis and Comparison for Nanoscale Brain Structures

High-resolution electron microscopy imaging allows neuroscientists to reconstruct not just entire cells but individual cell substructures (i.e., cell organelles) as well. Based on these data, scientists hope to get a better understanding of brain function and development through detailed analysis of local organelle neighborhoods. In-depth analyses require efficient and scalable comparison of a varying number of cell organelles, ranging from two to hundreds of local spatial neighborhoods. Scientists need to be able to analyze the 3D morphologies of organelles, their spatial distributions and distances, and their spatial correlations. We have designed Barrio as a configurable framework that scientists can adjust to their preferred workflow, visualizations, and supported user interactions for their specific tasks and domain questions. Furthermore, Barrio provides a scalable comparative visualization approach for spatial neighborhoods that automatically adjusts visualizations based on the number of structures to be compared. Barrio supports small multiples of spatial 3D views as well as abstract quantitative views, and arranges them in linked and juxtaposed views. To adapt to new domain-specific analysis scenarios, we allow the definition of individualized visualizations and their parameters for each analysis session. We present an in-depth case study for mitochondria analysis in neuronal tissue and demonstrate the usefulness of Barrio in a qualitative user study with neuroscientists.

This paper presents a novel event camera simulation system fully based on physically based Monte Carlo path tracing with adaptive path sampling. The adaptive sampling performed in the proposed method is based on a statistical technique, hypothesis testing for the hypothesis whether the difference of logarithmic luminances at two distant periods is significantly larger than a predefined event threshold. To this end, our rendering system collects logarithmic luminances rather than raw luminance in contrast to the conventional rendering system imitating conventional RGB cameras. Then, based on the central limit theorem, we reasonably assume that the distribution of the population mean of logarithmic luminance can be modeled as a normal distribution, allowing us to model the distribution of the difference of logarithmic luminance as a normal distribution. Then, using Student's t-test, we can test the hypothesis and determine whether to discard the null hypothesis for event non-occurrence. When we sample a sufficiently large number of path samples to satisfy the central limit theorem and obtain a clean set of events, our method achieves significant speed up compared to a simple approach of sampling paths uniformly at every pixel. To our knowledge, we are the first to simulate the behavior of event cameras in a physically accurate manner using an adaptive sampling technique in Monte Carlo path tracing, and we believe this study will contribute to the development of computer vision applications using event cameras.

Three-dimensional model building is one of the most challenging problems in the field of photogrammetry. With the continuous development of computer vision measurement, there are more and more methods to build three-dimensional model of target. On the basis of structured light projection three-dimensional measurement technology, this paper proposes an improved method of building object three-dimensional model based on multi-view images, analyses the principle of building the model and the key and difficult problems in its realization, and comprehensively uses image information processing technology, photogrammetry technology and three-dimensional graphics visualization. Key technologies, such as visualization technology, are used to reconstruct a digital surface model with three-dimensional geometric information and the number of surfaces attached to it by combining traditional image analysis tasks such as image feature extraction and image matching with artificial intelligence theory and multi-view geometry principle using two-dimensional image sequences of the target to be measured from different perspectives. In the whole process of word texture model, only a series of image sequences are captured by a camera relative to the target under test, and the three-dimensional model of the target is reconstructed by the algorithm. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper is convenient and effective. It has obvious improvements in restoring the true texture, geometric dimension accuracy and obtaining the colour distribution of the target surface. It is suitable for the construction of three-dimensional model for small regular or irregular objects. Compared with other three-dimensional modelling methods, it has the advantages of simple operation, flexibility, low requirement for equipment and wide practical value. © 2023 IEEE.

The accurate and timely diagnosis of intracranial tumors is crucial for effective treatment and management. In recent years, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a valuable tool for detecting and diagnosing intracranial tumors. The objective of this paper is to review the current state of research on the diagnosis of intracranial tumors using MRI scans and to provide an overview of the various techniques and methodologies employed. MRI has proven to be highly sensitive and specific in the detection of intracranial tumors. It provides detailed images of the brain, allowing for the identification of tumor location, size, and characteristics. Various MRI sequences, such as T1-weighted, T2-weighted, diffusion-weighted, and contrast-enhanced imaging, can be utilized to enhance the visualization and detection of tumor tissues. Moreover, advanced MRI techniques, including magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and functional MRI (fMRI), have shown promise in evaluating tumor metabolism and functional status. Several studies have focused on developing computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) systems to assist radiologists in interpreting MRI scans and improving diagnostic accuracy. These CAD systems utilize machine learning algorithms and image processing techniques to analyze MRI data and help distinguish between normal brain tissue and tumor abnormalities. Furthermore, the integration of MRI with other imaging modalities, such as positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), has been explored to enhance tumor detection and characterization. In conclusion, MRI plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and detection of intracranial tumors. The development and utilization of advanced imaging techniques, as well as the integration of MRI with other modalities, hold great promise in improving early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective treatment planning for patients with intracranial tumors. © 2024 IEEE.
