A crucial capability of real-world intelligent agents is their ability to plan a sequence of actions to achieve their goals in the visual world. In this work, we address the problem of visual semantic planning: the task of predicting a sequence of actions from visual observations that transform a dynamic environment from an initial state to a goal state. Doing so entails knowledge about objects and their affor-dances, as well as actions and their preconditions and effects. We propose learning these through interacting with a visual and dynamic environment. Our proposed solution involves bootstrapping reinforcement learning with imitation learning. To ensure cross task generalization, we develop a deep predictive model based on successor representations. Our experimental results show near optimal results across a wide range of tasks in the challenging THOR environment.

We present a mathematical technique for estimating new perspective views of an object from a single image. Unlike traditional graphics or ray tracing methods, our approach treats the view-morphing problem as a 2-D linear prediction process. We first estimate the prediction parameters in a reduced dimensional space using features extracted from "training" images of the object. Given an arbitrary view of the object, the features of the new view are linearly predicted from which the morphed image of the object is reconstructed. The proposed approach can be used for rapidly incorporating new objects in the knowledge base of a computer vision system and may have advantages in low-contrast situations where it is difficult to establish correspondence between sample views.

Advances in three-dimensional radiotherapy treatment planning, based on volumetric digital information from CT (computed tomography), MR (magnetic resonance), and other imaging modalities have prompted considerable interest in conformal treatment planning. The author discusses conformal treatment planning using interactive graphics based on both current techniques and new techniques developed using the supergraphics workstation. Among the improvements being explored is the use of dynamic simulations which allow not only the simulation of beam parameters but also simulation of the total delivery system to anticipate potential problems in the execution and delivery of complex fields. Semi-automatic beam design techniques which focus the computer processing efforts on realistic goals in optimizing certain beam parameters are being developed. To facilitate the development of these and other interactive graphical tools for the design and evaluation of conformal treatment plans, the AVS graphical programming system is being used on a supercomputergraphics workstation.
