This paper presents an improved motion compensated version of the Visual Pattern Image Sequence Coding (VPISC) paradigm. It is a high performance video codec that is easily implemented in software. Software video codecs are not only cheaper, but are more flexible system solutions because they enable multi-vendor computers to exchange encoded video information without requiring on-board protocol compatible video codec hardware. The codec is intended for real-time desktop computer applications like multimedia delivery, and local area network (as well as point-to-point) televideo conferencing. We describe a version of motion compensated VPISC (MCVPISC) that has achieved bit rates of 0.025 bpp or better for MPEG test sequences (source coding has further reduced the bit rate by about half). The computational complexity of the encoder is less than 3 integer operations per pixel. The decoder is bounded between 0.016 and 0.125 logical and integer operations per pixel.

The author describes 3-D reconstruction of the in-situ cornea and the ocular lens from an enucleated rabbit eye with confocal reflected light microscopy and volume rendering computer techniques. These techniques permit the observer to view the interior of living biological structures and perform quantitative measurements on their structure. It is argued that the 3-D visualization of the intact, enucleated eye provides an important step toward quantitative 3-D morphometry of the eye. The combined techniques of reflected light confocal microscopy and 3-D volume reconstruction will provide the 3-D database for further voxel image processing and voxel image analysis.

The 9th internationalconference on Medical Image Computing and computer Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2006, was held in Copenhagen, Denmark at the Tivoli Concert Hall with satellite workshops and tutorials at the IT University of Copenhagen, October 1-6, 2006. The conference has become the premier internationalconference with - depth full length papers in the multidisciplinary ?elds of medical image c- puting, computer-assisted intervention, and medical robotics. The conference brings together clinicians, computer scientists, engineers, physicists, and other researchers and o?ers a forum for the exchange of ideas in a multidisciplinary setting. MICCAI papers are of high standard and have a long lifetime. In this v- ume as well as in the latest journal issues of Medical Image Analysis and IEEE Transactions on Medical imaging papers cite previous MICCAIs including the ?rst MICCAI conference in Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1998. It is obvious that the community requires the MICCAI papers as archive material. Therefore the proceedingsofMICCAIarefrom2005andhenceforthbeing indexedbyMedline. Acarefulreviewandselectionprocesswasexecutedinordertosecurethebest possible program for the MICCAI 2006 conference. We received 578 scienti?c papers from which 39 papers were selected for the oral program and 193 papers for the poster program.

In this paper we present a holistic approach to CPU based acceleration of the high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) pipeline. The high dynamic range representation can encode images regardless of the technology used to create and display them, with the accuracy that is only constrained by the limitations of the human eye and not a particular output medium. Unfortunately, the increase in accuracy causes significant computational overhead and effective hardware acceleration is needed to ensure a utility value of HDRI applications. In this work we propose a novel architecture of the HDRI pipeline based on CPU SIMD and multi-threading technologies. We discuss the impact on processing speed caused by vectorization and parallelization of individual image processing operations. A commercial application of the new HDRI pipeline is described together with evaluation of achieved image processing speed-up.

The 5th international Workshop on Medical imaging and Augmented Reality, MIAR 2010, was held at the China National Convention Center (CNCC), B- jing, China on September 19–20, 2010. MIAR has remained a truly international meeting, bringing together - searchers from all ?elds related to medical image analysis, visualization and targeted *** recent years, technical advances in therapeutic delivery andagrowingdemandforpatient-speci?ctreatmenthaveacceleratedtheclinical applications of MIAR-related techniques. imaging plays an increasingly imp- tant role in targeted therapy, with interventions such as drug or gene therapy relying on more accurate delivery tailored to individual patients. Rapid progress in surgical methodologies, such as those with robot assistance, demands p- cise guidance from both preoperative and intraoperative imaging. The volume of data available from existing and emerging imaging modalities leads to a - sire for more automated analysis for diagnosis, segmentation and registration. Research in this rapidly developing area is highly multi-disciplinary, integrating research in life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, and medicine.

We propose a simple quasi-static routing scheme for buffered mesh connected network computers. Under the assumption of uniform traffic demands, it is demonstrated numerically that our simple routing scheme achieves near-optimal performance;in the sense of minimizing the total number of outstanding packets in a Jackson-type network. Simulation results are also presented for the case of non-uniform traffic demands. These simulations illustrate that our quasi-static control scheme can dynamically adjust the values of routing probabilities so as to provide acceptable and stable network performance. The results of these simulations are displayed using advanced video graphics.
