The accumulated LiDAR point cloud data is exploding, and its efficient visualization is critical to subsequent point cloud analysis and application. However, due to the large scale of point cloud data, traditional professional point cloud processing software usually has high hardware requirements with low visualization efficiency. Aiming at the problems, this paper designs an online visualization framework for massive 3D LiDAR point cloud data, which allows users to request the resources remotely through the network and interactively visualize the point cloud online in a progressive way. Firstly, the framework proposes a partition method of point cloud data based on the balanced KD-tree and a multi-level storage management scheme to store the point cloud data on HBase. Secondly, an adaptive spatial aggregation query strategy and efficient data transmission protocol based on WebSocket are proposed to support progressive on-demand exchange of massive point cloud dataset. Finally, multiple rendering schemes are designed to realize online visualization of the point cloud. In this paper, the Dutch AHN3 point cloud data is selected for performance validation experiments. Compared with the traditional methods, the online visualization effect is stable and efficient in this paper, and can provide a good interaction experience.

Both verbal and nonverbal communication is important to facilitate collaborative activities by multiple people. This study focused on eye gaze as a form of nonverbal communication. The proposed method consists of a local feature-matching method, an object detection method, and a combination of the two. A simulated scene was designed and filmed to evaluate the proposed method quantitatively. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve high accuracy when applied to local feature-matching. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed by shooting a real scene of a medical procedure in a hospital.

The physical simulation of CAD models is usually performed using the finite elements method (FEM). If the input CAD model has one dimension that is significantly smaller than its other dimensions, it is possible to perform the physical simulation using thin shells only. While thin shells offer an enormous speed-up in any simulation, the conversion of an arbitrary CAD model into a thin shell representation is extremely difficult due to its non-uniqueness and its dependence on the simulation method used afterwards. The current state-of-the-art algorithms in conversion voxelize the input geometry and remove voxels based on matched, predefined local neighborhood configurations until only one layer of voxels remains. In this article we discuss a new approach that can extract a midsurface of a thin solid using a kernel-based approach: In contrast to other voxel-based thinning approaches, our algorithm applies a kernel onto a binary grid. In the resulting density field, opposing surface-voxels are iteratively moved towards each other until a thin representation is obtained.
