Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units are essential yet complex assets in offshore oil and gas production. Due to their significant scale and the intricate nature of their construction and conversion processes, FPSO projects frequently face delays and cost overruns. This paper presents a strategic engineering approach integrating risk management frameworks with machine learning to enhance project execution for FPSO units. By focusing on early Material Take Off (MTO) estimations, Critical Path analysis, and Local Content requirements, this approach addresses major challenges in FPSO projects, such as supply chain constraints and fluctuating market conditions for exotic materials. Our hybrid model combines historical data analysis with neural network-based process-specific correlations to improve MTO accuracy and procurement planning. Results demonstrate that this approach not only mitigates project risks but also enhances efficiency, enabling smoother workflows and minimizing delays. The findings offer actionable insights and tools for project managers aiming to optimize FPSO project delivery within the smart industry framework. © 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Breaking down the parallel time into work, idleness, and overheads is crucial for assessing the performance of HPC applications, but difficult to measure in asynchronous dependent tasking runtime systems. No existing tools allow its measurement portably and accurately. This paper introduces POT: a tool-suite for dependent task-based applications performance measurement. We focus on its low-disturbance methodology consisting of task modeling, discrete-event tracing, and post-mortem simulation-based analysis. It supports the OMPT standard OpenMP specifications. The paper evaluates the precision of POT’s parallel time breakdown analysis on LLVM and MPC implementations and shows that measurement bias may be neglected above 16μs workload per task, portably across two architectures and OpenMP runtime systems © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Abstract. Recent wildfire events in various parts of the world (Canada, the USA, Europe, Australia, etc.) highlight that climate evolution leads to atmospheric patterns that contribute to the development of more destructive fires, revealing complex fire-atmosphere interactions. The HIDALGO2 project addresses several environmental challenges from the perspective of numerical simulation and explores the possibilities and constraints of using European HPC resources. This paper presents some of the strategies followed in the wildfire pilot study for modeling fire spread and smoke emission and dispersion. The WRF-SFIRE model allows for the prediction of atmospheric behavior and its influence on wildfire spread by coupling the factors governing both phenomena. The design of the number of domains and their resolution, as well as the parameterization for downscaling and fire spread simulation, influence performance on EuroHPC installations. Additionally, each HPC installation has particularities for its use. These aspects condition and limit their use for real-time simulations to support operational decision-making. The pre-calculation of simulation ensembles can help overcome this obstacle and also allow for landscape sensitivity analysis. Finally, some strategies for the photorealistic visualization of the results are presented. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This paper proposes an innovative flood control simulation and early warning system integrating computer simulation and building information modeling (BIM). The system combines deep learning technology with water flow simulation, uses long short-term memory network (LSTM) to model and predict historical water level data, and combines the three-dimensional terrain information provided by the BIM model to dynamically evaluate the water flow and flood spread risks. Through this innovative algorithm, the system can achieve accurate flood prediction according to different scenarios and conditions, and improve the timeliness and accuracy of early warning. In the experimental part, a reservoir was used as a case for verification. The results showed that the LSTM-based algorithm improved the prediction accuracy by $\mathbf{2 0 \%}$ compared with the traditional regression prediction method, and the computational efficiency was improved by 15 %. Compared with traditional methods, the water conservancy flood control early warning system integrating BIM and deep learning is more stable and efficient under complex terrain. This study provides new ideas for intelligent decision-making in the field of water conservancy and flood control. It is not only highly practical, but also provides technical support for further promoting intelligent water conservancy management and disaster prevention and control.

Modern model checking tools like UPPAAL Stratego provide a rich framework for modeling cyber-physical systems involving non-determinism as well as time, stochastic and continuous state descriptors. A key objective is to design controllers for such systems that optimize a given objective, e.g., minimizing energy consumption. At an abstract level, the controller design problem can be cast as optimizing a strategy in a continuous (Euclidean) Markov decision process. Partitioning the continuous state space is a simple yet effective strategy to solve this optimization problem in a flexible, non-parametric manner. In previous work we have introduced a reinforcement learning strategy under an undiscounted cost objective on dynamically refined partitions, and we have analyzed at the semantic level approximations of Euclidean MDPs by Imprecise MDPs. In this paper we are extending the approximation analysis to discounted and average cost objectives, and we are moving to close the gap between the theoretical analysis and the practical reinforcement learning approach. We introduce several alternative simulation strategies that on the one hand maintain approximation guarantees as the granularity of the partitioning increases, and on the other hand turns our learning scenario into a standard Q-learning procedure. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The minitrack contains contributions with a focus on simulation modeling and digital twins and decision making in the context of Industry 4.0. The use of simulation models and digital twins is manifold, from planning to virtual commission and real-time operational decision support. Cyber-physical systems integrate the real world and the virtual world to enable decision making in the age of Industry 4.0. For example, customer decisions and supply disruptions which directly influence manufacturing and logistics systems require immediate decisions. Thus, models must have the capability to support decision making in manufacturing as well as in internal and external logistics in real-time. Methods include discrete-event simulation, discrete-rate simulation, hybrid simulation, system dynamics simulation, the combination of simulation modeling with machine learning or optimization heuristics, prescriptive analytics, and adaptive systems. Furthermore, this minitrack addresses simulation education and simulation models and digital twins used for education and training in manufacturing and logistics. In the following, we provide a short overview of the submitted and accepted papers of this minitrack. © 2025 IEEE computer Society. All rights reserved.

Train Control Center (TCC) is the hub of the information interaction of the column control system. It is the core system that ensures the safety of railway driving and ensure transportation efficiency. The traditional manual test method has many problems, such as high test cost, long time-consuming and low efficiency, and great influence of human subjective factors. This paper uses computer simulation technology to build a simulation test system. By analyzing the information interaction between the column control center and other devices, the computer simulation technology is used to build the simulation test system simulation control system operation. This system can intuitively reflect the performance of the column control system, which is convenient to optimize and adjust the design scheme, make theoretical guidance for the establishment of the real control system. According to the functional test requirements of TCC, this paper uses Colored Petri Net (CPN) to establish a hierarchical model for the simulation test system of the train control center. Taking the temporary speed limit scene test as an example, the formal modeling of the simulation test system through CPN can avoid the ambiguity caused by the specification description, improve the timeliness and safety of the system, help to find the problems that may occur in the design specification, manufacturing and operation of the system, and provide some reference for the design of the real train control system.

This paper explores real-time modeling and simulation of communication systems based on an enhanced discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method. Real-time simulation of communication systems is of significant importance in network design and optimization, as well as in the evaluation of attack defense strategies. Traditional simulation methods often suffer from low computational efficiency and long response times when handling large-scale communication networks, failing to meet the demands of real-time simulation. To address this, the paper proposes an improved DGTD method, which incorporates matrix reuse techniques and a time series prediction approach based on long short-term memory (LSTM) networks. These enhancements significantly boost the computational efficiency and real-time performance of the simulation. By thoroughly exploiting the periodic/quasi-periodic characteristics of the simulation model to reduce memory consumption, and by employing the LSTM-based time series prediction method to minimize the number of time integration steps, the overall time consumption is markedly reduced. The paper showcases the effectiveness of the enhanced DGTD method in simulating wireless communication networks through practical application cases. Experimental results demonstrate that the improved DGTD method can efficiently simulate signal propagation performance and provide real-time simulation feedback. With further algorithm optimization and enhanced utilization of computational resources, the improved DGTD method holds extensive application prospects and significant research value in the realm of real-time communication simulation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Sedimentation tanks (ST) are commonly used in stormwater treatment to remove solid particles. This study investigates the efficiency of a rectangular ST by analyzing inlet flow rate, recirculation zones, and residence time's effects on particle removal. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is used to evaluate ST efficiency, revealing flow patterns and problem areas. The main objective is to assess the impact of inlet flow rate variations on ST efficiency. CFD software creates a 3D ST model, calibrated with Vermicelli catchment data in southern Italy. Varying the inlet flow rate shows that a plug flow pattern and longer residence time improve ST efficiency. The study underscores the importance of flow patterns and residence time when evaluating rectangular sedimentation tanks for urban stormwater treatment, offering insights for design and operation optimization. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
