Pulse wave monitoring for hemodynamic parameter acquisition, including blood pressure, constitutes a challenge for wearable device development. Hypertension as a target for such development forms a global health issue. An important aspect is the connection to the object-electrode-skin interface-from which many problems in electrical measurements originate. Finite element model simulations and experimental measurements of forearm arteries' electrical bioimpedance have been presented in this paper to evaluate the two-electrode system compared to the four-electrode system in distal and perpendicular placement relative to the artery. The four-electrode system has been reported to provide higher pulsating blood volume proportions, reaching 0.09% from the total measured impedance in distal placement, while the two-electrode system exhibits lower values (0.05%). A strong positive correlation between the simulation and experimental results appeared in distal two-electrode placement (r=0.718), while the outcome is reversed in the perpendicular approach (r=-0.539). The experimented two-electrode system configurations are applicable in wearable device development but require further analysis for the perpendicular placement.

Economic activities have deteriorated the quality of air, which is a vital natural resource. There has been a lot of research on predicting when terrible air quality will occur, but much of it is limited by a lack of data collected, making it unable to account for periodic and other factors. This article develops and analyses the performances of two higher order neural networks-based forecasts such as pi-sigma neural network (PSNN) and functional link artificial neural network (FLANN) on estimating the air quality index (AQI) of Brarajanagar and Talcher industrial region of Odisha State, India. AQIs at the daily level of two cities are collected from the Kaggle source, preprocessed, and used for modeling and forecasting by the two higher-order neural networks. simulation outcomes and comparative studies are in favor of PSNN and FLANN-based forecasting

This paper examines the challenges of deployment of Wireless Video Sensor Networks in unfavorable environments, emphasizing the issues arising from random deployment and overlapping coverage areas. Two approaches are proposed in this paper. The first approach employs single-camera Video Sensor Nodes whereas the second approach utilizes multi-camera Video Sensor Nodes, each furnished with up to four cameras uniformly distributed across a 360°range. The prime advantage of the second approach is its enhanced ability to provide broader and more efficient coverage compared to single-camera systems, as the multi-camera Video Sensor Nodes can monitor the environment from multiple perspectives concurrently. A realistic coverage model, projecting the coverage of 3D VSN onto a 2D plane is introduced in both the approaches. The results show that the second approach not only achieves significantly better energy efficiency and higher area coverage but also lessens communication and storage overhead. These findings highlight the superiority of the deployment of multi-camera VSN in maximizing coverage and operational efficiency in WVSN.

In a hyper-scale cloud data center, a large number of control messages are distributed to hundreds of thousands of compute nodes from a logically centralized control plane. The delivery of these control messages, a.k.a. southbound messages, is critical to cloud infrastructure management, as it greatly affects customer experience. Existing works mainly deal with southbound message delivery by two methods: point-to-point transmission and Message Queue (MQ)-based solutions. With the point-to-point transmission method, each message is sent from the control plane to compute nodes directly, which may cause high control complexity and overhead in hyper-scale clouds. The MQ-based method can address the challenge of high complexity through message aggregation and subscribe/publish model. However, it usually brings in redundant messages, and further causes extra load on compute nodes. To solve the problem above, we design SNIP, which exploits the ability of programmable switches to perform in-network message pruning and to reduce message redundancy. Specffically, forwarding and processing information computed by the control plane is attached to the package header of every control message. Redundant messages can be identified and processed by programmable switches. In addition, we propose a rounding-based algorithm to prune messages with minimal redundancy. The simulation results show that SNIP can reduce the control overhead by 80%-85% and the total traffic of redundant messages by 35% compared with existing solutions.

Assessment is the core and fundament of rehabilitation, which can guide the whole treatment process. In the rehabilitation, doctors or therapists need to assess the function of patients in upper/lower-limb, based on subjective assessment and objective assessment. While it may cause large error and high cost by traditional ways. Therefore, artificial intelligence technology is applied to the field of medical rehabilitation. This review will summarize the application of objective assessment methods which are base on artificial intelligence including not limited, trajectory error feature, joint angels and joint angular velocity, sEMG signal feature. Finally, the review concludes that existing objective methods are generally affected by the scale of data and the number of feature. In this paper, the discrete time-varying equality constrained optimization (D-TV-ECO) problem based on discrete-time zeroing neural dynamic (DT-ZND) method is studied. Firstly, a continuous time-varying equality constrained optimization (C-TV-ECO) problem is presented. Secondly, the Lagrange function is constructed by introducing the Lagrange method, which integrates the objective function and related constraints into a continuous time-varying system. Then, a continuous-time ZND (CT-ZND) method is built. Afterward, using the discretization derivation method based on the expansion of four-step ZeaD formula (FsZF), a FsZF DT-ZND method for D-TV-ECO problem is proposed, which has two design parameters, including discretization parameter and convergence parameter. Significantly, the truncation error of the FsZF DT-ZND method has been elevated to the fourth-order, thereby enhancing the precision of the calculations. Theoretical analysis indicates that the FsZF DT-ZND method exhibits convergence and stability. In the numerical experiments, the impact of different values of the discretization parameter α and convergence parameter κ is analyzed. Finally, simulation experiments are conducted to further demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the FsZF DT-ZND method.

This paper proposes a new physics-guided machine learning approach that incorporates the scientific knowledge in physics-based models into machine learning models. Physics-based models are widely used to study dynamical systems in a variety of scientific and engineering problems. Although they are built based on general physical laws that govern the relations from input to output variables, these models often produce biased simulations due to inaccurate parameterizations or approximations used to represent the true physics. In this paper, we aim to build a new data-driven framework to monitor dynamical systems by extracting general scientific knowledge embodied in simulation data generated by the physics-based model. To handle the bias in simulation data caused by imperfect parameterization, we propose to extract general physical relations jointly from multiple sets of simulations generated by a physics-based model under different physical parameters. In particular, we develop a spatio-temporal network architecture that uses its gating variables to capture the variation of physical parameters. We initialize this model using a pre-training strategy that helps discover common physical patterns shared by different sets of simulation data. Then we fine-tune it using limited observation data via a contrastive learning process. By leveraging the complementary strength of machine learning and domain knowledge, our method has been shown to produce accurate predictions, use less training samples and generalize to out-of-sample scenarios. We further show that the method can provide insights about the variation of physical parameters over space and time in two domain applications: predicting temperature in streams and predicting temperature in lakes.

Surface electromyography (sEMG) has recently been commonly used in sign language recognition owing to its numerous advantages (i.e., portability, lightweight, and ease of use) over cameras and inertial sensors. We proposed a real-time Chinese sign language recognition model based on sEMG signals in this research. sEMG data was collected using MYO armband on nine healthy volunteers who performed a series of 15 gestures. The signal was preprocessed using a sliding window method followed by a muscle detection operation. Five time-domain features were extracted from the preprocessed signal for feature extraction. We used a feed-forward Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to classify the signals with an activation time threshold to recognize the gestures. This model is 94.9% in accuracy and reacts in around 195.19 ms (real-time). © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The hip joint is unique anatomically and physiologically, so a lot of problems may appear through its structure lead to damage. In this study, a 2D/3D model of the hip joint was implemented using a Software platform (SolidWorks Program) to study the behavior of the most common compatible materials that may use to design a hip joint (Ti-6-Al4V, Al2O3, and Cr-Co-Mo alloys) under specific load applied (261.6 N) to compare the behavior of the materials based on stress, strain, and displacement response. The stability of the model was observed and verified by static test and the materials have been applied one by one, the results showed that the use of Al2O3 as a material of femoral head presents higher stress values compared to use Cr-Co-Mo or Ti-6-Al4V alloy, according to strain and displacement, Al2O3 gave the lowest values compared to the rest of the alloys. © 2021 IEEE.

This article introduces new photovoltaic module modeling technology using (MPPT) built on Fuzzy logic design in the Simulink domain. The focus of the model is to reduce the switching power loss and harmonic distortion. A boost converter, PV array, MPPT module, Voltage measurement. Current measurement, Fuzzy logic controller, PWM generator, and purely resistive load is used. This model having DC-DC(Boost) converter increases the voltage. The execution of the presented model has been restored in Simulink at different temperature and solar irradiation. The model is applied for the Photovoltaic module KYOCERA KC200GT. In the end, the experimental data have been compared with the given specific predictions to make sure the effectiveness of the system. The final results gives the data that shows the developed power reaches the expected value. © 2021 IEEE.
