We propose a system-level simulation framework called XSNN that can accurately and efficiently predict the accuracy performance of spiking neural networks (SNN), reflecting the ideal and non-ideal characteristics of the analog/mixed-signal neuron circuits and synapse devices. The neurons and synapses are modeled with XMODEL primitives, and a Python script can automatically construct a system-level model of a chosen SNN architecture and accompanying simulation testbenches in SystemVerilog. The SNN model of a 100-10-10 fully-connected network with MNIST dataset achieves a 52.8x speed-up with an classification accuracy error of less than 2% compared to the equivalent HSPICE simulation.

Transcranial Direct-Current Stimulation (tDCS), as a safe and non-invasive neuromodulator, has been recently the center of attention for the treatment and management of neurological disorders. However, the intervening mechanisms of tDCS are not completely understood, and in consequence, it was not possible or advisable to utilize it as an effective treatment. In this work, by integrating a neural mass model of the thalamocortical system, which can generate and induce different types of seizures, and the physiological aspects of the interaction between tDCS and the brain, such as permissible current and how it must be involved in different neural populations, we have proposed a basic model. Then, by connecting several units of the basic model and applying a learning rule to calculate properly the connectivity weights between units, a multi-zone model is established. Our simulation results explained the ever-increasing connectivity between pre-and post-stimulation, an accepted feature of tDCS. Then, we described computationally (based on bifurcation analysis) how this change in connectivity can lead to a reduction in epileptic susceptibility.

According to the requirements of pressure resistance and sealing performance detection of deep-sea instruments and equipment under full sea pressure, a 120MPa deep-sea test chamber for ultra-high pressure environment simulation is designed in this paper. The structural dimensions of the test chamber were designed and calculated, including the cabin wall thickness, the cabin bottom head thickness, the sealing top cover, and the locking nut. The strength of the cylinder structure and the sealing cover of the test chamber were verified and analyzed through finite element analysis, which validates the reliability of the test chamber structure. The 120MPa deep-sea test chamber for ultra-high pressure environment simulation designed in this paper can provide important technical support for testing the pressure resistance and the sealing performance of deep-sea instruments and equipment. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

Two widely used commercial tools, PV*SOL and PVSyst, are used for simulation of 31 kWp grid-connected rooftop photovoltaic system installed on the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Split. The analysis covers five-year period from 2017 to 2021 for which the meteorological data has been obtained from Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service. The simulation results are compared with the measured data of electricity production on a daily, monthly and annual basis.

Many potential medical applications for magnetically controlled tetherless devices inside the human body have been proposed, including procedures such as biopsies, blood clot removal, and targeted drug delivery. These devices are capable of wirelessly navigating through fluid-filled cavities in the body, such as the vascular system, eyes, urinary tract, and ventricular system, to reach areas difficult to access via conventional methods. Once at their target location, these devices could perform various medical interventions. This paper focuses on a special type of magnetic tetherless device called a magnetic rotating swimmer, which has internal magnets and propeller fins with a helical shape. To facilitate the design process, an automated geometry generation program using OpenSCAD was developed to create the swimmer design, while computational fluid dynamics simulations using OpenFOAM were employed to calculate the propulsive force produced by the swimmer. Furthermore, an experimental approach is proposed and demonstrated to validate the model. The results show good agreement between simulations and experiments, indicating that the model could be used to develop an automatic geometry optimization pipeline for rotating swimmers.

This manuscript investigates the impact of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and their cameras’ key specifications on the efficiency of infrastructure visual inspections using UAVs. The challenges of UAV-based inspection data collection include reducing necessary waypoints to improve inspection efficiency while collecting desired data for sure. Existing studies generally concentrated on optimizing the efficiency of UAVs’ inspection trajectories and waypoints when equipment is given. However, the impacts of equipment specifications and their selections have not been investigated, yet they also significantly affect inspection efficiency. This manuscript surveys the key specifications of current equipment available for inspection and investigates the variation in efficiency through inspection simulations with different equipment specification combinations. simulation results reveal that with the highest pose accuracy achievable by existing UAV platforms, it is possible to achieve efficient inspection. However, such high pose accuracy may be difficult to achieve, underscoring the importance of targeted selection of camera focal lengths according to UAV specifications and the types of pose errors. Additionally, using higher-resolution cameras may substantially improve the efficiency of high-resolution data collection tasks, which is a more practical solution for enhancing efficiency than further improvements in UAV pose accuracy. The conclusions drawn from this research provide actionable guidelines for equipment selection and development and lay the foundations of efficiency modeling, ultimately contributing to the advancement of UAV-based inspection methodologies.

The work presents an algorithm for mathematical modeling long-term Heart Rate Variability data using Gaussian distribution functions. The representation of the cardiac series in time domain is performed using an inverse wavelet transform. The transform is implemented with different Daubechies wavelet bases and is compared with the implementation of the algorithm with the classical Fourier transform. The created time sequences are analyzed in terms of the wavelet bases (Db4, Db6, Db8, Db12, Db20) used and the required CPU time for implementation of the program procedure. The obtained results show higher IT efficiency of the presented algorithm, realized with Daubechies transform. © 2021 ACM.

A 3-dimensional macroscopic discharge model in mineral oil is introduced. The process of streamer propagation and branching is simulated between two energized electrodes. The propagation of individual streamer branches in mineral oil is evaluated by using simple physical considerations based on electrostatic calculations performed throughout the discharge development. The simulation is performed by using commercial finite element method (FEM) software in a simulation application. The morphology and the potential gradient change along the streamer perform a good consistency with experimental results. In the paper, the first attempt to validate the model with a “single” guided streamer filament creeping on a glass dielectric under step voltages is presented.

This manuscript presents an essential overview of the implementation of memristor-based logic circuits. Different memristor models such as Linear Drift, Simmons Tunnel, Yakopcic, N on-Linear ion Drift, TEAM, and VTEAM have been taken into consideration and a comparison of results has been done adopting all these models. The logic gates such as NAND, NOT, NOR, AND, OR along with some combinational circuits such as a l-bit comparator, and 2xl multiplexer were designed and implemented using MRL (Memristor Ratioed Logic) in the L TSpice simulation tool. The primary target of this paper is affirming the attributes of memristor at the device level. Here the logic circuits are implemented using Memristor and NMOS devices. All the circuits designed in this paper operate at a supply voltage of lV using HP memristor model. Moreover, the power consumed by the designed circuits has been analyzed and found to be in the order of p W.

Dung Beetle Optimizer (DBO) is a meta-heuristic algorithm formed by modeling inspired by living creatures and is known for its fast convergence. However, it still suffers from poor global exploration abilities, a proclivity to settle for local optimums and a lack of population variety. Therefore, this paper proposes a hybrid beluga whale optimization (BWO) and dung beetle optimization algorithm with somersault foraging (SRBDBO) using three strategies to improve the DBO. First, the interaction behavior between individuals in the hybrid BWO exploration phase enhances the global exploration ability of the rolling dung beetle, and the diversity of the dung beetle population is improved by mixing the BWO whale-fall phase at the end of each iteration of the population. Second, a somersault foraging strategy is introduced to expand the foraging area of small dung beetles. An adaptive somersault factor is also incorporated to balance global exploration and local exploitation and prevent the population from stopping updating at a locally optimal solution. Third, refraction opposition-based learning (ROBL) is used to reduce the likelihood that a thief dung beetle will stagnate updating in a locally optimal region. Finally, the widely recognized CEC2017 benchmark function set is utilized to assess the performance of SRBDBO. The simulation experiments show that SRBDBO demonstrates strong optimization-seeking performance and robustness when compared with the selected algorithm.
