Using Digital human modeling (DHM) early in design brings the advantage of reducing the time and resources committed to building full-scale physical prototypes. DHM also helps in minimizing efforts put on performing human subject data collection. However, majority of the repetitive two- and three-dimensional (2D/3D) object orientations and manikin adjustments in DHM are executed manually via point-and-click based keystrokes and precision mouse control, which correspond with increased user effort and time. Additionally, such manual adjustments often fail to mimic the actual postures with high fidelity;thus, injecting further user bias into the design. Due to lack of automation, engineers follow a much conservative approach via running a limited set of ergonomics simulations on select values in contrast to performing an exhaustive search for exploring an extensive set of anthropometry and postural variations. This study introduces an early design framework to automate manikin setup, task simulation, and ergonomic evaluations in DHM to provide concept design exploration capabilities. In this research work, a cockpit packaging design problem was explored to measure the reach gap values via the automation framework. Results suggest that the automation methodology has the potential to reduce the amount of time required to perform DHM simulations and helps in minimizing user bias. The automation framework generated ergonomic evaluations with high correlation values (>0.97) and provided approximately a 97.5% reduction in time when compared to manual simulations.

We consider typical scenarios where an autonomous multi-robot team is used for surveying a large region. The desired output is a spatial map of the physical values of interest. Accounting for spatial correlation and uncertainty, the map is modeled using a Gaussian Process. Considering real-world constraints such as limited time budget and collision avoidance, we model team's mission as a joint informative path planning problem which is tackled using a leader-follower architecture balancing centralized and fully distributed computation of plans. The leader first identifies a convex containment region that is to be sampled by the team. Next, through a combination of Bayesian optimization and Monte Carlo simulation, distinct sampling locations are identified and assigned to the followers. Each follower independently solves an orienteering problem to find a collision-free path maximizing information gain. A team-level adaptive replanning criterion is designed to keep redirecting sampling towards the most informative regions. The algorithm has been validated in computational experiments for map estimation. Compared to a baseline reference algorithm, it has shown a significantly higher accuracy. Moreover, the approach has shown good ability to support network connectivity, as well as good scalability in computation.

In industrial part kitting, 3D objects are inserted into cavities for transportation or subsequent assembly. Kitting is a critical step as it can decrease downstream processing and handling times and enable lower storage and shipping costs. We present Kit-Net, a framework for kitting previously unseen 3D objects into cavities given depth images of both the target cavity and an object held by a gripper in an unknown initial orientation. Kit-Net uses self-supervised deep learning and data-augmentation to train a convolutional neural network (CNN) to robustly estimate 3D rotations between objects and matching concave or convex cavities using a large training dataset of simulated depth images pairs. Kit-Net then uses the trained CNN to implement a controller to orient and position novel objects for insertion into novel prismatic and conformal 3D cavities. Experiments in simulation suggest that Kit-Net can orient objects to have a 98.9% average intersection volume between the object mesh and that of the target cavity. Physical experiments with industrial objects succeed in 18 % of trials using a baseline method and in 63% of trials with Kit-Net. The twist of the suture is an important parameter that affects the suture effect. If the suture is not twisted, the suture is easy to wear and fluff during the sewing process, resulting in thread breakage. At the same time, that will affect the suture effect and the strength of the suture itself. The article uses experiments and simulations to compare the mechanical properties of carbon fiber twisted threads. Refer to GB/T 3362 - "Test Method for Tensile Properties of Carbon Fiber Multifilament"to test the tensile strength of T700-12K carbon fiber tow. And in ABAQUS, the three-dimensional Hashin damage criterion is used for 20 twists/m, 50 The carbon fiber sewing thread with twists/m and 80 twists/m is subjected to finite element prediction. The results show that the carbon fiber sewing thread with 80 twists/m has higher tensile strength than the carbon fiber sewing thread with 20 twists/m and 50 twists/m. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In this paper we have investigated the device performance of Charge Plasma Nanotube FET ( CP NT FET) using 3-D device simulation. The inner and outer gates of nanotube FET provide better electrostatic control over the channel region. Excellent electrical characteristics such as I ON = 2.084*10 -3 A/µm, I OFF = 2.457*10 -12 A/µm and ideal subthreshold swing (SS) of 62mV/dec is achieved. This excellent electrical performance of CP NT FET makes it a suitable candidate for a scaled low power mixed signal circuit in IoT application.

In this work, various computer-aided methods for cervical cancer screening are examined in-depth with examples. The cervical cancer can be detected using either cervical images or Pap smear cells images. Both are important to detect the cervical cancers in women patients. The several machine learning and deep learning models for detecting cervical cancer in Pap smear cell images as well as cervical images are covered in detail. The simulation study is used to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of each cervical cancer screening method.

In several mechanically linked sectors, including power plants and the aerospace industry, explosive welding (EXW) has been utilised successfully. Furthermore, it has been effectively used in the production of biocompatible materials in medical and associated areas, among other things. This technique is beneficial for joining various types of metals and alloys that are difficult to join using other methods of welding, such as stick welding. The majority of earlier experimental research on titanium and aluminium layered composites concentrated on the microstructural and mechanical properties of the materials. However, the exact mechanism through which titanium and aluminium are formed during explosive welding is still a mystery. Only a few simulations have been piloted to study the explosive welding process of titanium and aluminium layers. Even so, there is potential for investigating the EXW of titanium in conjunction with an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy. This article describes the development of a more physically accurate 2D numerical model for simulating the whole process of explosive welding titanium and the aluminium alloy Al7075-T6. The smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) approach was utilised in this simulation, which is included in the ANSYS Autodyn software package. The numerical model is capable of modelling the standard physics of explosive welding, including explosive expansion, flyer plate bending, metal plate collisions, jetting and plate contact throughout the operation. Physical properties that change throughout the explosive welding process are discussed in detail. The aluminium plate served as the foundation for the majority of the jet's components. As predicted by the model, the jet travelled at a speed of 1100 m/s. Furthermore, the pressure at the explosion site was insufficient for causing the two plates to bind together successfully. Biometric modalities have been explored in recent times with great scope of use. This is due to the various challenges encountered with the failure to identify individuals and their departmental changes that they may exhibit. In-order to counter and account for such changes, the biometric modalities are usually registered and compared to their respective matches in the database. There have been various algorithmic methods that have evolved in order to identify the change in the modalities. However, the previous work of study incorporated the commingling of various biometric modalities such as the fingerprint, face, iris, voice and signature. Nonetheless, the proposed indagation focuses on combining the fingerprint biometric modality to that of an audio wave using binary phase shift keying method. This is a unique approach which aids in identifying the pixel transformation through the shift in the bits of the chosen image, and also evinces a digital modulation in the entailed audio wave. The binary shift keying method has been elaborated with other approaches such as voice and signal processing techniques, but this paper focusses on identifying the behavioral change in the pixel bits from the original image to the binary image through the original and modified audio waves. The simulation has been implemented in MATLAB and the outcome has been successfully procured. © 2021 IEEE.

Due to the low insulation level of distribution lines, the electromagnetic transient characteristics of lightning strikes are quite different from those of high-voltage transmission lines;the lightning protection measures used in high-voltage lines cannot be well applied to distribution lines. In order to further understand the various lightning protection measures and the effect of lightning protection measures on the improvement of the lightning resistance level of distribution lines, this paper evaluates the working principles, characteristics, lightning protection effects and existing deficiencies of various lightning protection measures used in distribution lines And using ATP-EMTP software to analyze several kinds of lightning protection measures commonly used in 10kV distribution lines, it has certain reference value for the selection of lightning protection measures of 10kV distribution lines. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This work deals with the problem of reconstructing the thermal conductivity coefficient of ice-gas- hydrate rocks. It is proposed to use the results of direct mathematical simulation of heat transfer processes in a heterogeneous porous medium with different phase composition, and the principles of energy conservation law. The results of high-resolution X-ray tomography are applied to construct a digital model of the gas-hydrate-containing medium using machine learning procedure and special thresholding methods. A discrete geometrical model of the digital model is constructed by methods based on adapted symplectic partitions. In contrast to existing solutions to the above problem, our approach is not based on the application of phenomenological reduced models. We apply continuum models of the medium under study, and the heat transfer process. This approach makes it possible to obtain physically relevant results for determining the thermal conductivity coefficient of a heterogeneous medium using its digital analogue. The influence of the phase composition and contrast of the thermal characteristics on the value of thermal conductivity coefficient of ice-gas-hydrate-containing samples is presented.
