In 2022, the image governs daily life. The Image guides navigation, the sharing of affections, political geography, and the evolution of knowledge in the most varied scientific areas. In this article, we will try to reflect on the positioning of the subject before digital technology and on how we can think about the real at this moment in history. In practical terms, the real has imposed itself in the last three years in which the pandemic by COVID-19 made us rethink the bases of our existence. Its relationship with image expressions, like indexicality, mimicry or visibility, seems obvious. However, the complexity of the image brought by digital technologies that capture, edit and/or construct in a participative way in realtime, implies that expressions like illusion, participation, simulation or creativity; become much more pertinent to the discussion of the image and the positioning of the subject. By dislocating/displacing reality, /replacing it, through the manipulative capacity offered by the technology that is essentially plasma through computer graphics and exponentiated in portable devices, the image lost one of the fundamental characteristics of its essence as testimony, gaining an interactive synaesthetic dimension and enhancing the creativity of the users/fruiters.

Academics and the medical industry are both very interested in wireless power transfer (WPT) in medical implanted devices (MIDs). These systems have had issues with their battery life, which requires charging or replacement. Wireless power transfer in implantable medical devices is significantly hampered by the size of the coils for energy transmission and reception. Analytical calculations can be used to determine the output power of a wireless power transfer system, but it is more challenging to determine the effects of selecting a specific design or material for the transmission and receiving coil assembly. The impact of altering the distance between the transmitter coil and receiver, materials, geometries, and number of turns on output power is quantified in this work by numerical modeling. The quantifications acquired made it possible to choose a coupling coefficient model and compute the best parameters for the power transfer. The study helps to discover the crucial variables that need to be changed or managed in the coils in order to maximize the transmission of power for a wireless system.

Complex systems usually contain a large number of small and medium-sized nonlinear simulation model units, which needs to be approximated in a linearized form, and the most time-consuming step is the solving of these linear equations. Existing batched algorithms suffer from the global memory access latency bottleneck, and the performance is poor. This paper designs and implements a GPU based highly parallelized batched LU decomposition algorithm as well as the corresponding parallel back-substitution algorithm to solve linear systems simultaneously. The experiment result shows very promising efficiency, it achieves more than 17.15 speedup ratio compared with CUBLAS provided by NVIDIA.

Edge computing emerges recently and shows promising solutions to support and boost applications for the Internet of Things (IoT). Nevertheless, by considering a distributed edge server system consisting of multi-users with time-variability and mobility, which may cause applications to be stopped due to resource faults or link failures. We present here a method that directly aims to make the execution of workflows more reliable and efficient. The proposed and designed a fault-tolerant method first analyzed the allocation of a dependency-based task, then tolerates task failure on edge nodes using the primary-backup (PB) strategy, and finally applies state-of-the-art Deep Q Network (DQN) algorithm to obtain the optimise task scheduling scheme. To the end, we conduct a simulative case study on real datasets and compare ours with other fault-tolerant methods. The result shows that our approach improves the reliability of workflow execution in edge environment.

Bank note authentication devices are used widely in many large scale stores and companies. Their main focus is to accurately detect all the forged bank notes regardless of a few false alarms on genuine ones. In this work, a low power (210nW), area efficient (0.057mm 2 ), analog threshold classifier is proposed to operate as a bank note authentication circuit. The architecture consists of bump and Winner-Take-All circuits. A real-world bank note authentication dataset is used to confirm the proper operation of the proposed classifier, via post-layout simulations in a TSMC 90nm CMOS process, using the Cadence IC Suite. The achieved recall (91.0%) indicates that the classifier is capable of detecting forged bank notes successfully.

This paper studies adaptive target detection in compound-Gaussian clutter for a colocated multi-input multi-output (MIMO) radar. A new one-step generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) is devised with all the involved unknown parameters estimated iteratively. Besides, a minor revision is made to the already existing two-step GLRT for this problem. Numerical examples show that both the two detectors are effective. For the considered simulation setup, the newly proposed detector can achieve higher detection rates than the revised one and competitors designed in Gaussian clutter scenarios.
