Processors based on the von Neumann architecture show inefficient performance on many emerging data-intensive workloads. Computation in-memory (CIM) tries to address this challenge by performing the computation on the data location. To realize CIM, memristors, that are deployed in a crossbar structure, are a promising candidate. Even though extensive research has been carried out on memristors at device/circuit-level, the implications of their integration as accelerators (CIM units) in a full-blown system are not studied extensively. To study that, we developed a simulator for memristor crossbar and its analog peripheries. This paper evaluates a complete system consisting of a Transport Triggered Architecture (TTA) based host core integrating one or more CIM units. This evaluation is based on a cycle-accurate simulation. For this purpose we designed a simulator which a) includes the memristor crossbar operations as well as its surrounding analog drivers, b) provides the required interface to the co-processing digital elements, and c) presents a micro-instruction set architecture (micro-ISA) that controls and operates both analog and digital components. It is used to assess the effectiveness of the CIM unit in terms of performance, energy, and area in a full-blown system. It is shown, for example, that the EDAP for the deep learning application, LeNet, is reduced by 84% in a full-blown system deploying memristor based crossbars.

Distance Learning suffers from a high dropout rate. Several works propose to use machine learning techniques to create predictive models that can identify students at risk of dropping out and, thus, reduce this index. However, predictive models can stop making accurate predictions over time and even contain cultural and prejudiced bias. Therefore, educators need to be included in the loop of modeling and simulating predictive models to identify problems and requirements that may not be easily identified by just accessing the outcomes. Our work proposes a prototype to simulate scenarios without changing the predictive model so that educators can evaluate the results of AI. After the development of the prototype and three different predictive models, educators carried out a formative evaluation on the prototype. The findings indicate that this type of scenario simulation can be useful for questioning the results of an AI, even with people without technical knowledge about predictive models.

Heat and mass transfer processes underlie almost all processes in the chemical and petrochemical industry (rectification, absorption, drying, evaporation, etc.), and, as a rule, such processes take place in multicomponent systems. It should be noted that the accuracy of existing methods for calculating mass transfer processes does not exceed 85% (although it can reach 95-97% for well-studied problems). In general, separation processes are very energy-intensive, moreover, they often have a negative impact on the environment. In view of the above, it is advisable to in-depth study of the phenomena and processes occurring in the mass transfer equipment. One of the methods is numerical simulation in the ANSYS Fluent software package, which has proven to be a reliable tool for modeling mass transfer processes.
