Automated Production Systems are highly complex mechatronic systems. The increasing complexity of automation software is a main challenge for companies to remain competitive. Added functionality entails software changes, which may cause side effects. Static code analysis and change impact analysis are key methods in computerscience for assessing software regarding side effects. However, the requirements of real-time capability, reliability, and mixing different Programmable Logic Controller programming languages in the automation software lead to new requirements for code analysis and change management. This paper introduces a set of change categories designed to provide understandable and comprehensive classifications of changes in automation software. Mutable (i.e., changed or modified between versions) software artifacts serve to differentiate change categories Aiming for unambiguousness and completeness, this set of categories supports the further work of the change analysis, such as automatic change detection and visualization. The change categories are evaluated through an industrial software project programmed in Siemens TIA Portal comprising 262 program organization units in the health sector.

This paper describes the experience of teaching Human computer Interaction engineering (HCI-E) concepts in the User Interface Technologies course for the Master's Degree in computerscience at the University of Cagliari. The course covers the general traits of technologies for building User Interfaces for different platforms and modalities, including the architecture of classical desktop interface toolkits, the fundamentals of information visualization, gestural interaction, eXtended Reality and seminars about the interplay between Artificial Intelligence and the development of User Interfaces. We motivate the syllabus design for this course and the assessment method, discussing the issues and the success points we registered in four years since we started giving this course.

Various methods have been developed for automated and semi-automated architecture generation in the computer aided ship design processes. The question remains as to how this can speed up the design process without losing the requirement elucidation intent for concept phase. This paper presents a novel approach with a software toolset to develop design and analysis approaches to early stage ship design and provide a sketching tool. This was done by enhancing the user interface and experience of the UCL Network Block Approach to achieve a "thinking sketch" in a way that is "quick" and "fluid" enough to promote inventive and creative sketching comparable to hand sketching. The UCL Network Block Approach draws on the UCL Design Building Block (DBB) approach and uses network methods applied to the synthesis of distributed ship service systems (DS3) and computer Aided Ship Design (CASD) to expand DS3 definition in early stage ship design. The UCL originated inside-out/DBB approach to sketch driven synthesis has been made translatable to both DBB ship descriptions and ensuring early stage naval architectural "balance". The proposed approach has been used for the first time successfully to not only carry out a rapid sketching exercise for a naval ship design but also enable quick preliminary analysis of a set of DS3 networks.
