Technology must be developed to suit the older population in an increasingly elderly global society, especially concerning the development of user-friendly UI/UX (User Interface/User Experience) for smart devices. While phones and tablets offer many benefits for seniors, age-related cognitive, physical, and sensory changes pose challenges in creating an accessible and intuitive UI/UX. This study aims to explore adaptive UI/UX solutions to overcome these issues and alleviate technology anxiety among older users. The research involved approximately 100 elderly individuals from India who identified common challenges faced when using applications. Subsequently, psychometric techniques based on our findings were employed in a test. Continuous use of the application by individuals allowed its UI to adapt to user actions, customizing it to their behavior patterns. A voice-task model was developed that navigated through the application to complete a task that the user desires. Focused on banking and financial applications, along with cab booking applications, the study targeted age groups between 60 and 75 years. Conclusively, this research highlights the effectiveness of adaptive UI/UX designs in enhancing the lives of geriatric users. It also provides valuable insights and practical guidelines for designing technologies that align with their needs.

Time elapsed till an event of interest is often modeled using the survival analysis methodology, which estimates a survival score based on the input features. There is a resurgence of interest in developing more accurate prediction models for time-to-event prediction in personalized healthcare using modern tools such as neural networks. Higher quality features and more frequent observations improve the predictions for a patient, however, the impact of including a patient's geographic location-based public health statistics on individual predictions has not been studied. This paper proposes a complementary improvement to survival analysis models by incorporating public health statistics in the input features. We show that including geographic location-based public health information results in a statistically significant improvement in the concordance index evaluated on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) dataset containing nationwide cancer incidence data. The improvement holds for both the standard Cox proportional hazards model and the state-of-the-art Deep Survival Machines model. Our results indicate the utility of geographic location-based public health features in survival analysis.

The shift to Industry 5.0 emphasizes human-machine collaboration, personalization, sustainability, and worker support. This paper explores integrating Digital Twins (DT) and Cyber-physical Production Systems (CPPS) within a human-centric Smart Manufacturing framework. Digital Twins offer real-time prediction, simulation, and optimization, enhancing production efficiency and adaptability. CPPS merges computational and physical processes, supporting human-machine collaboration and improved decision-making. The main objective is to enhance sustainability, efficiency, and human-centricity in data-driven manufacturing. This research reviews current technologies, proposes a novel framework integrating DT and CPPS, and assesses implementing a Smart Product (SP) within a Smart Factory (SF) scenario. Key innovations include designing and integrating SPs, developing smart manufacturing processes, and applying DT for enhanced SP functionality. The findings demonstrate improvements in production efficiency, customization, human-machine collaboration, and sustainability, aligning with Industry 5.0 principles. The study concludes with recommendations for future research to integrate ergonomics, cybersecurity, and ethical considerations in smart manufacturing.

Software engineering (SE) education aims to seamlessly blend theoretical knowledge with practical exposure, ensuring students the grasp of SE's foundational principles, design methodologies, implementation, testing, and maintenance capabilities with communication paradigms and problem-solving strategies. Under rapid evolvement and advancement, new technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence are poised to redefine the SE landscape. However, traditional SE curricula often lag behind in incorporating cutting-edge technologies, particularly in student class projects. This paper underscores the significance of blockchain within the SE pedagogical framework. Specifically, we introduce a project-based learning approach with blockchain technology to create an open-source software repository for students to engage in requirement analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of blockchain-oriented software development. These activities will allow students to understand the nature and architecture of blockchain applications that have long been ignored in both computer science and SE education. Practicing these projects will enable learners to become experts in blockchain software development and rethink the need for improving requirements elicitation, design, development, and testing strategies. The repository consists of ten modules, each of which contains real-world topics. We have developed one of ten modules so far, which focuses on a blockchain-based student record database. A preliminary survey, both pre and post-exposure, was conducted with 24 university students of both undergraduate and graduate levels pursuing degrees in either computer science or software engineering programs. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the value of our approach in enhancing the learning experience of novel technologies.
