Conventional engineering process usually consists of analysis, design, building and modifying prototypes, further analysis, design modifications, building, and testing. Life cycle support has become such a significant element of any engineering process that the cost for life cycle support can be several times higher than design and development. The process for the development of a complex system that includes many subsystems/components is, most of the time, a lengthy trial-and-error process. The advent of micro-electronics and computertechnology has revolutionized engineering process. computers provide engineers with powerful tools;complicated computations can be handled with relative ease, computer-aided engineering (CAE) tools simplify the design process, and computers and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics allow engineers to analyze, simulate, and test before acquiring components of the real system. CAE tools are available to perform system modeling and simulation in analysis, design, prototyping, and manufacturing. In addition to shortening the development cycle, substantial cost for analysis and testing can also be reduced. Another salient feature of using system modeling and simulation is that with an appropriate lab setup, engineers can create the visual and electronic characteristics of the end products, so that they can perform analysis, design, and testing of an object that can emulate the end product at any stage of the development cycle. This paper reports using the modeling and simulation based system integration approach to the development of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle A3 System (BFV A3). BFV A3 System is a system upgrade of the existing BFV A2 System that is the backbone of the US Army mechanized infantry. The upgrade enhances system performance by adopting new fire control and full digitization of the vehicle control system. The integration window was reduced from 18 months to six months by using this revolutionary approach. The modeling

This paper demonstrates how computer science can intersect with the humanities and the arts in a way that is tangible for students. Specifically, we provide four examples of interdisciplinary student projects that sit at the intersection of software design, Japanese culture, and art. Steve Jobs once said "-technology alone is not enough-it's technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the results that make our heart sing" [1]. The projects we report demonstrate how students can experience this synergy first-hand.

As the amount of software in cars grows exponentially, Vehicle-IT Applications are significant competitive element for the automotive industry. Many new IT companies attempt to enter into this automotive markets, but closed information sharing is preventing it. In this paper, we suggest reusable software component for the vehicle-IT applications. By the flow of automobile industry raising the user convenience and safety, these common component try to prevent the repetitive development about the identical function module of the various field operated with the information of cars including OBD terminal, black box, navigation, and etc.

We introduce a class of massively parallel computer architectures which can be configured to efficiently handle a variety of neural network models. The underlying technology is three-dimensional wafer scale integration (3-D WSI), which provides an ideal medium to construct powerful, compact, and low power hardware tailored for neural network processing. A second generation prototype computer consisting of a 128 x 128 array of processors formed by stacking 8 CMOS wafers is nearing completion. The performance of this prototype is compared with enhanced architectures configured with special wafer types to accelerate neural network operations. The design of these specialized resources emphasizes the synergy between neural processing functions and the 3-D WSI architecture and packaging. Detailed microcode emulations are used to assess the impact of different algorithm/architecture modifications. Neural networks for cooperative vision integration and multilayer backpropagation are mapped onto various 3-D wafer stacks. Estimated performance for the vision integration network is 2.4 billion connections per second. For the backprop network training algorithm, the performance ranges from 1.1 billion connection updates per second (GCUPS) for a near-term 128 x 128 prototype up to 53.4 GCUPS for a future 512 x 512 machine with more extensive neural processing hardware enhancements.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is one of China's most innovative and populous regions and an important engine for economic development in the North. However, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area is also facing many problems. In this context, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy came into being. However, due to the large differences in economic development between the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, the industrial transfer process faces considerable challenges. Based on the analysis of the industrial transfer trend in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, this paper summarizes the challenges facing the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and proposes corresponding strategic recommendations to provide theoretical advice and guidance for coordinated development.
In this article, we discuss the multifaceted aspects of implementing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). In view of the rising demands for realtime processing and low-latenc...

This paper discusses the development of a public transit scheduling tool that can be run on a spreadsheet software. The main objective of the paper is to bridge the existing gap between the theoretical knowledge of bus service scheduling and local transport service providers in order for the latter to improve their service. Users of the tool are allowed to input on-board passenger counts, to analyze and graph travel characteristics of a transit line, and to propose a service schedule. This paper includes the theoretical background considered in developing the scheduling tool. The performance of the tool was tested using actual bus survey data. Results show that, on the average, data processes range from 0.80 to 5.63 seconds. Finally, the limitations of the scheduling tool were examined and corresponding recommendations were made to improve it.
