Open systems, through the use of public, consensus based specifications or standards, are focussed on achieving the interoperability between, and the portability of components. In accommodating standards, open systems promise the advantages of plug-n-play technology, rapid prototyping and component re-use, while at the same time preventing system integration misfits, shell system lifespan and difficulty in maintenance. In the development of open systems, it has been recognised that the specification and standardisation of interfaces, not components, is of critical importance to realising these advantages. Due to the critical role of interfaces in open systems, the quality of the interface specifications used to engineer the interfaces is fundamental to the fulfilment of the promises of open systems. The authors contend that since current specifications and standards are deficient, then open complex computer systems, built using these specifications and standards, will indeed be no silver bullet. The authors present several ways forward, based on the inter-relationships between components, so that in the future the promises of open complex computer systems may still be fulfilled.

Agile methods advocating early and frequent delivery, incremental and iterative development, and adaptive planning gradually becomes a popular software development methodology around the world. Many top software companies adopt agile methods and develop lots of remarkable software products. Although many researchers have studied agile methods using various approaches, whether and how agile methods help developers establish better software is still controversial. In this paper, we study the business data, development, and human resources records provided by Titansoft, a Singapore IT service corporation which is well-known in its successful Agile experiences. From analysis of the data, three primary impacts brought by agile adoption are revealed: (1) A temporary business stagnation;(2) Improvement in product quality;(3) Positive evolution in corporate culture. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is one of the few studies discussing how agile methods influence a software company in software development, business, and corporate culture aspects throughout a relatively long duration (more than 5 years).

A smart system with context-aware technology can dynamically coordinate heterogeneous distributed services according to various contexts in the physical world and cyberspace. Two technologies, context management and rule-based system, are important elements in developing context-aware applications, and these implementation technologies can reduce the manpower required for service development. FIWARE, an open-source context management platform, and Uni-messe, a rule-based event routing hub, are examples of previous research. This study explores an integrated architecture that connectsUni-messe and FIWARE. We first propose the overall structure of the integrated architecture. The coordination and behavior of the five modules that constitute the architecture are discussed. Finally, a demonstration service based on the proposed architecture is constructed and implemented, and the work processes required for development are discussed. By linking Uni-messe and FIWARE, the development of context-aware applications can be carried out efficiently.

He considers the operational characteristics of the systems and describes the power system architecture, control logic, and component performance. The systems include the following power system elements: wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, diesel engine generators, batteries, and system controls. The project includes an extensive laboratory test program, the development of a computer simulation program, and the collection of short-term and long-term field data from existing hybrid sites. Telemedicine is one of interaction model between physician and patients in the era of globalization. All of the countries in the world are now in position of aggressive establishment of telemedicine especially huge country such Indonesia. In Indonesia, there's a great disparity of healthcare coverage. According to survey in 2013, almost 94.1% of households is located more than 5 km from the nearest healthcare facility. In contrast, Indonesia has one of the better broadband penetration in South East Asia. It is projected that 66% of Indonesian population will be reached by broadband access in 2017. This create a perfect opportunity for telehealth services to enable greater coverage for healthcare services for patients in Indonesia. Implementation of telehealth in Indonesia has begun with tele-ECG and tele-radiology program initiated by Harapan Kita and Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. The development of telehealth has changed a new paradigm on interaction between patients and doctors. Patients doesn't need to go to the hospital for asking the treatment for their diseases. Now patients gain easily a lot of health information through advancement of information, communication and technology everywhere, anywhere and whatever they want according to their needs. The concept of consumer health informatics should bring health information closer into patients than health provider's perspectives. Many mobile health applications which is one of technology fulfilled this enquires was developed in Indonesia. This development of telemedicine and mobile health has raising a lot of issues on medical ethics, confidentiality, and medico-legal that should be regulated by government. In the future, the government should establish a good standard of care among the patients and setting standard for health-care workers readiness in preparing the development of telemedicine and mobile health application in Indonesia.
