Many algorithms in computervision, e.g., for object localization, are supervised and need annotated training data. One approach for object localization is the Discriminative Generalized Hough Transform (DGHT). It achieves state-of-the-art performance in applications like iris and epiphysis localization, if the amount and quality of training data is sufficient. This motivates techniques for extending the training corpus with limited manual effort. In this paper, we propose an active learning scheme to extend the training corpus by automatically and efficiently harvesting and selecting suitable Web images. We aim at improving localization performance, while reducing the manual supervision to a minimum. Our key idea is to estimate the benefit of a particular candidate Web image by analyzing its Hough space generated using an initial DGHT model. We show that our method performs similarly to a manual selection of Web images as well as a computationally intensive state-of-the-art approach.

image distortion correction is a critical preprocessing step for a variety of computervision and imageprocessing algorithms. Standard real-time software implementations are generally not suited for direct hardware porting, so appropriated versions need to be designed in order to obtain implementations deployable on FPGAs. In this paper, hardware-compatible techniques for image distortion correction are introduced and analyzed in details. The considered solutions are compared in terms of output quality by using a geometricaln-error-based approach, with particular emphasis on robustness with respect to increasing lens distortion. The required amount of hardware resources is also estimated for each considered approach.

This paper presents one of the approaches to the gesture recognition problem, which might be valuable in development of social robots, companions for deaf-mute people or in design of new control methods. A universal PC application for gesture recognition in image sequence acquired from a simple USB camera in real-time was made. The application recognises hand gestures which indicate chosen letters from the sign language alphabet and can be adjusted to any hand-shape pattern. Active Contour method has been shown very effective in detecting the contour of region(s)-of-interest(ROI) and is widely used in imageprocessing and computervision. In this work, we aim to improve the performance of Zhang's method in detecting boundary of ROIs. Specifically, we will generalize the CV energy functional and give a new special case. The new energy functional penalize the approximation error (of the original image by a constant) weaker than the CV energy functional, which can better preserve the subtle difference between the intensity of ROIs and that of the background, thus can effectively segment images, especially images with low contrast. The resulted two-phase constant approximation is the harmonic mean instead of the arithmetic mean. Based on this, we improve Zhang's active contour method by using the harmonic mean. We apply the proposed method on synthetic and real images and the segmentation results show that the proposed method is robust to noise and intensity contrast. Additionally, the proposed method is less sensitive than Zhang's method to parameter selection.

Since few years there is tremendous growth in the research of surveillance system especially in computervision based surveillance system. This paper proposes a monitoring system which includes motion detection algorithm is implemented along with some alarming features. The system proposed in this paper is IOT based imageprocessing unit with internet connectivity so that data can be transferred to any remote server for example Cloud. The motion detection feature of a system provides necessary isolation of most significant video clips that eliminates time consuming reviewing process required in normal video surveillance system. The main idea behind this system is to detect the presence of any moving object especially a human and then start recording a video from the motion is detected. The video clip can be stored locally as well as uploaded to cloud server so that it can be viewed from anywhere in the world and necessary alarms then generated by the system. image segmentation algorithm is to divide the images into several regions with specific and unique characteristics, and is an important technology to extract the interested target. image segmentation is the key step to realize the research from general imageprocessing into image analysis, and is vital preprocessing method of image recognition and computervision. We cannot obtain correct recognition if we do not have correct segmentation. Nevertheless, the only basis of segmentation process is brightness or color of pixels in an image. In the processing of computer automatic segmentation, we experience several problems, such as uneven illumination, effect of noise, indistinct part in image, and shadow, and these factors may cause false segmentation. In order to overcome the disadvantages of the traditional segmentation algorithm, in this paper, we propose a novel segmentation algorithm based on Markov Random Field. The segmentation algorithm proposed in this paper is based on Markov Random Field Mode and Bayesian theory, and we determine the objective function in image segmentation problem on the basis of optimality criterion of statistical decision and estimation theory. Some optimization algorithms are used to obtain the maximum possible distribution of Markov Random Field which satisfy these conditions. The experimental result reflects the effectiveness and robustness of our algorithm. As a supplement, we analyze the development trend of the Markov Random Field theory.
