image edge detection is a hot topic in the study of imageprocessing and computervision. Accurate edge information is helpful to the study of high-level image features. However, the image edge information is vague and uncertain. Fuzzy theory is expressed with the imprecise knowledge, and it is one of the effective methods to solve the problem with fuzzy phenomenon. The fuzzy theory and Sobel operator are combined in this research, and the main idea of the method is summarized as three steps, firstly, the image's gray matrix is converted into fuzzy feature matrix. Secondly, edge information is extruded by fuzzy enhancement. Finally, the image edge is detected by Sobel operator. The method of extracting image's edge with fuzzy theory has low computational complexity and simple procedure and precise edge information.

Wearable device with an ego-centric camera would be the next generation device for human-computer interaction such as robot control. Hand gesture is a natural way of egocentric human-computer interaction. In this paper, we present an ego-centric multi-stage hand gesture analysis pipeline for robot control which works robustly in the unconstrained environment with varying luminance. In particular, we first propose an adaptive color and contour based hand segmentation method to segment hand region from the viewpoint. We then propose a convex U-shaped egocentric curve detection algorithm to precisely detect positions of fingertips. And parallelly, we utilize the convolutional neural networks to recognize hand gestures. Based on these techniques, we combine most information of hand to control the robot and develop a hand gesture analysis system on an iPhone and a robot arm platform to validate its effectiveness. Experimental result demonstrates that our method works perfectly on controlling the robot arm by hand gesture in real time.

image quality plays important role in many imageprocessing applications. For assessing perceptual image quality, there is need to quantify the visibility of differences between a distorted image and a reference image using a variety of known properties of the human visual system. Also to provide a convincing proof that a new method is better than the state-of-the-art the image quality assessment should be employed. Therefore image based projects are often accompanied by user studies, in which a group of observers rank or rate results of several algorithms. Unfortunately the problem posed by subjective experiments is their time-consuming and expensive nature. Huge size of input databases is crucial in that situation. This paper is intended to reduce the database size and made the subjective experiments less expensive and therefore more usable. To achieve it we employ a clustering technique and human visual system based objective metrics.

In this paper an unsupervised colour image segmentation algorithm is presented. This method combines the advantages of the approaches based on split&merge and region growing, and the use of the RGB and HSV colour representation models. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been verified by the implementation of the algorithm using three different testing images with homogeneous regions, spatially compact and continuous. It was observed that the proposed algorithm outperforms the other analysed techniques requiring shorter processing time when compared with the other analysed methods.
