The overall Industry 4.0 developments and the highly dynamic threat landscape enhance the need for continuous security engineering of industrial components, modules, and systems. Security risk assessments play a major role to ensure a secure operation of Industrial automation and control Systems (IACSs) but are mostly neglected due to missing resources and a lack of human experts for the sophisticated manual tasks. Therefore, a method for information and process modelling regarding the automation of security risk assessments has been previously designed, but not yet evaluated. This work in progress begins the evaluation of the automated security risk assessment concept by investigating the related work and identifying the main deficits. The results include a requirements analysis for the verification and an outlook towards future evaluation aspects.

Fault detection and localization in medium and low-voltage distribution networks are critical for ensuring the reliable operation of power systems. Traditional electrical measurement methods face challenges in accurately detecting fault locations and types, especially in complex and noisy environments, which often results in delays in fault identification and resolution. This paper proposes a fault detection and localization approach based on fiber optic sensing technology, which offers high sensitivity, strong anti-interference capabilities, and the ability to monitor physical parameters such as vibration, temperature, and strain in real time. A monitoring system utilizing fiber optic sensors is designed, and signal processing techniques such as wavelet and Fourier transforms are employed to extract key fault features from the collected data. Furthermore, machine learning models, including Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM) and Support Vector Machine (SVM), are applied for fault classification and precise localization. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in detecting and localizing faults under various operational conditions, providing a more efficient and reliable alternative to traditional methods. This approach offers a promising solution for the intelligent operation and maintenance of distribution networks and contributes to the development of advanced fault diagnosis and decision-making systems.

In LoRaWAN, each node transmits packets autonomously, so packet collisions occur when multiple nodes transmit packets at the same time and frequency. However, the clocks of inexpensive LPWAN nodes are generally not highly accurate, and synchronization errors can occur between devices over time. In addition, in single-hop LoRaWAN, it is not possible to achieve high data rates and a wide communication range at the same time. By using multi-hop communication, it is possible to achieve a wide communication range while maintaining a high data rate. However, LoRaWAN multi-hop communication suffers from the hidden node problem, throughput degradation due to the inability to transmit and receive packets simultaneously, and power consumption due to the need to constantly open the receive window. This paper proposes an autonomous distributed adaptive resource allocation method to solve the above problems. Specifically, we show that by assigning packet transmission slot decisions based on LoRaWAN packet information, the transmitting and receiving sides can share transmission and reception locations, avoid packet collisions, and reduce power consumption by avoiding unnecessary opening of reception windows.
