For decades the PID controller has received wide acceptance for many closed-loop control applications. Common deterministic approaches, for instance, Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) and Internal Model Control (IMC) are widely available in the literature. However, the tuning is fixed and dependent on the mathematical formulas that make the tuning becomes complicated when it involves multiple stages of process operations of a nonlinear process. Therefore, this paper presents the research work on PID controller tuning using a metaheuristic approach known as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) analysis. The research focuses on identifying models of the given nonlinear process at lower and higher temperature conditions. Evaluation of the performance indices and responses of the PSO and deterministic approaches prove the efficacy of the proposed method. Additionally, the paper explains the parameter settings of PSO for improved performance.

With the development of 5G, edge computing has raised as a promising technology to satisfy the requirements of computation-intensive and delay-sensitive applications. In this work, we try to propose a task offloading strategy for end users, with considering their individual rationality and collective rationality at the same time. Specially, a user only with individual rationality aims to minimize the completion time of its own task, while a user only with collective rationality aims to minimize the total task completion time achieved by the system. The problem is particularly difficult, as there exist essential conflicts between the individual utility of each user and the collective utility of the system, which cannot be optimized simultaneously. To overcome the difficulties, we first reformulate the problem as a coalition formation game. Then, we propose an iterative algorithm, in which each user can make its task offloading decision in a decentralized way. Additionally, we rigorously prove the properties achieved by our algorithm in terms of stability, optimality, and convergence rate. Extensive simulations are also conducted to validate the performance of our algorithm compared with baselines.

This work studies the real-time path planning for UAV in the dynamic environment. We propose a real-time path planning algorithm to get an optimized path suitable for UAV. The improved algorithm is based on the multi-optimized RRT∗. We redefine the cost function by considering both Euclidean distance and the turning angle. Then sampling method is modified for reducing the sampling space and fastening the convergence. Due to the branches connected to the executed waypoints no longer affect the next path, we introduce the node deletion method to reduce the memory consumption. Experimental results show that the path generated by the MO-RRT∗Replan algorithm has better quality. Also, our algorithm ensures real-time capability from these experiments. © 2021 IEEE.

Fog computing extends a paradigm of cloud computing to a network edge, thus reducing transmission delay of users' tasks and providing fast services. Dramatic increase of mobile devices brings a big challenge of how to keep low-response processing of tasks. To solve this challenge, this work aims to minimize the latency of tasks while meeting energy limits of mobile devices, and formulates a constrained optimization problem. It designs an improved optimization algorithm by following core steps of whale optimization algorithm (WOA) inspired by whale hunting behaviors. It is named C haotic D ifferential W OA with Lévy flight (CDWL). CDWL integrates merits of WOA, chaotic differential evolution, and random walks of Lévy flight. In this way, CDWL achieves strong global search and quick convergence. Real-life experiments demonstrate CDWL outperforms its six state-of-the-art peers. © 2022 IEEE.

In recent times, a convergence has emerged between Internet of Things (IoT) technology and advanced healthcare systems, a field under intense research owing to its remarkable efficiency and user-friendly integration into human life. Concerns around patient data privacy and security are expanding alongside the increasing count of IoT devices. In the healthcare system increases tremendously. Such secure systems will enhance the trust of the patients when choosing hospitals. Hospitals will also need to keep the medical devices in a condition where they need to be answerable for any malfunction. We suggest using blockchain-based smart contracts to manage patient data and medical devices in order to safeguard personally identifiable information and information generated by devices. Specifically, we develop a remote healthcare system including healthcare providers (a hospital), Healthcare practitioners (physicians), and patients employing a blockchain system built upon the Ethereum protocol. This architecture is based on Ethereum, which offers protection to the patients’ vital clinical data. This architecture, which is based on Ethereum, offers a safe and adaptable platform for smart healthcare systems. As a result, we can observe the immutable health data in the blockchain which proves the authenticity and integrity. In this generation, the world requires such secure systems that it is difficult for humans to be around patients to monitor their health. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This paper introduces qTrustNet VPN, a next-generation Virtual Private Network (VPN) designed to enhance security in the quantum era. With the rapid advancement of quantum computing, traditional encryption methods face obsolescence, necessitating more robust security solutions. qTrustNet VPN addresses this need by integrating the WireGuard protocol, known for its simplicity and high performance, with Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) algorithms developed by the National Institute of Standards and technology (NIST). These PQC algorithms are designed to withstand the decryption capabilities of quantum computers, providing long-term security.

With the development and application of distributed cloud computing, the problem of assigning workflow tasks to computational resources has become more and more prominent. It involves multiple constraints and optimization objectives, and is a typical NP-hard problem. Existing evolutionary algorithms face local optimum and premature convergence problems. Considering these facts, we proposed a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm with elitism strategy (MOEAES) in this paper. To avoid local optimum, MOEAES uses a new crossover operator called Random Sub-Sequence Exchange Crossover (RSSEX), and it introduces a multi-population-based elitism strategy to accelerate the algorithm. Finally, experimental validation is carried out, which shows that MOEAES achieves performance improvement in terms of solution quality and convergence speed comparing to other methods. © 2022 SPIE.

Resource scheduling stands as a pivotal concern within the realm of cloud computing. Aiming at the defects of low resource utilization in traditional cloud computing resource scheduling, a model derived from the scenario of online education video processing platform is established. Simultaneously, a new grey wolf algorithm (NGWO) is introduced to enhance the resource scheduling strategy for cloud computing. Addressing the issue of sluggish convergence, limited global search capabilities, and susceptibility to local optima in multiple iterations of the traditional GWO, the NGWO algorithm is enhanced through chaotic mapping, improving nonlinear convergence factor and introducing dynamic weight strategy. The experiments demonstrate that the NGWO algorithm exhibits superior convergence and enhanced optimization accuracy on unimodal and multimodal functions. Furthermore, the results underscore the NGWO algorithm's heightened optimization prowess in comparison to the GWO and GWO-S algorithms.

In this paper, a new gradient-based adaptive digital signal processing algorithm is proposed that works on the principle of steepest descent method. A new cost function is synthesized with aim to combine best part of LMS and RLS. The cost function is based on weighted least mean square error. The convergence of the adaptive digital signal processing algorithm is proved mathematically. Proposed algorithm was implemented successfully on noise cancellation to validate the convergence. The proposed weighted least mean square algorithm is easy to implement and fast converging. Performance of the algorithm was compared with least mean square algorithm in noise cancellation and found that proposed algorithm is faster converging. The proposed algorithm converges within 0.1 s, while LMS takes 0.6 s to converge. Further, the proposed algorithm is also implemented for 50 Hz powerline humming noise reduction from ECG signal and found robust performance. If the initial value of filter weights in the proposed algorithm is kept nonzero, then performance is much better. As previous errors contribute to error updating, the filter taps quickly reach their optimum value. The proposed algorithm convergence is validated by simulation results. This algorithm has robust and better performance than least mean square algorithm. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Low earth orbit (LEO) satellites have low orbit altitude, strong landing signal power, and strong anti-interference ability, which is an attractive way to provide available navigation and positioning services for GNSS-challenged environments. This work studies Iridium signals and establishes a mathematical model for Iridium Doppler positioning by extracting instantaneous Doppler information from iridium opportunity signals. Then, UWB is used to perform peer-to-peer ranging measurement and communication between agent nodes. Finally, a collaborative positioning technology based on Iridium/UWB is proposed. Simulation results show that compared with iridium satellite opportunity signal positioning, the proposed method can significantly improve the convergence speed and positioning accuracy of the algorithm.
