Complex workflows play a critical role in accelerating scientific discovery. In many scientific domains, efficient workflow management can lead to faster scientific output and broader user groups. Workflows that can leverage resources across the boundary between cloud and HPC are a strong driver for the convergence of HPC and cloud. This study investigates the transition and deployment of a GPU-accelerated molecular docking workflow that was designed for HPC systems onto a cloud-native environment with Kubernetes and Apache Airflow. The case study focuses on state-of-of-the-art molecular docking software for drug discovery. We provide a DAG-based implementation in Apache Airflow and technical details for GPU-accelerated deployment. We evaluated the workflow using the SWEETLEAD bioinformatics dataset and executed it in a Cloud environment with heterogeneous computing resources. Our workflow can effectively overlap different stages when mapped onto different computing resources. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Due to the characteristics of nonlinearity and strong coupling, the control system for unmanned helicopters is challenging to design. Coordinated turn is a basic mode for unmanned helicopters to complete complex actions autonomously. To achieve higher control performance, this paper proposes a fuzzy PID coordinated turn control method based on improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Firstly, the mathematical model of an unmanned helicopter is established, and the control strategy of coordinated turn mode is analysed. Then, the attitude and altitude controllers based on fuzzy PID for coordinated turn are designed. In order to compensate for the shortcoming that quantization factors and proportional factors of fuzzy PID controllers depend too much on experience, the differential evolution (DE) method, local convergence judgement, and linearly decreasing inertia weight are presented as improvements to the PSO algorithm to optimize factors. Finally, the results of the simulation demonstrate that the position, speed and attitude of the unmanned helicopter can react quickly and the corresponding output value is accurate and stable in coordinated turn mode. So the coordinated turn control method for unmanned helicopters is proven to be feasible and effective. © 2023 ACM.

This paper investigates multi-slot dynamic computing resource optimization in the scenario of edge computing. A cloud-edge-user optimization system is established which targets to supply users low-delay services through users task scheduling and ensures energy consumption as little as possible. Considering large-scale fading and location information, we model the channel between the users and the edge nodes (eNodes) to calculate the offloading rate. In order to quantify the delay cost, a penalty factor is introduced to characterize the service quality of users. Unrestricted data offloading contributes to excessive energy consumption while delay cost does not decrease much, so energy consumption is also considered as an optimized target. We propose a modified genetic algorithm to solve the multi-slot dynamic optimization problem which presents better convergence than conventional genetic algorithm. A multi-agent greedy algorithm with low time complexity is also designed to compare with the modified genetic algorithm. Via simulation, the effectiveness of two proposed algorithms in reducing the delay cost and the energy consumption is verified and the modified genetic algorithm shows competitive performance. In addition, we also analyze the changes in offloading decisions caused by different weights of energy consumption.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence, especially deep learning techniques, are attracting attention as promising solutions due to their high accuracy in a variety of applications. The deep learning technique requires high computational resources in the training and inference phases, and therefore, it is important to efficiently operate a deep learning application in edge servers equipped with limited computing resources. For efficiently operating deep learning applications in edge computing, the offloading method becomes one of the most promising solutions. In this paper, we introduce a deep learning offloading framework for optimizing GPU resource utilization in edge computing architecture. The proposed framework operates on an open-source container orchestration system, Kubernetes, which is used for managing multiple number of object detection offloading microservices running on an edge server. Through the real-world experimental results, we verify that the proposed framework enhances the performance of object detection offloading service by leveraging GPU utilization of edge server throughout applying Kubernetes-based container service orchestration.

With technologies such as robots, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and quantum computing being developed to attain digital superiority, modern military applications have the potential to fundamentally alter defense operations and tactics. The two technologies that have the potential to transform combat are augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). Large-scale simulation environments for the military and paramilitary sectors might be produced using AR and VR, changing everything from soldier training to the creation of fresh warfighting tactics. Tactical augmented reality, digital twins, weapons aiming, spatial orientation, situational awareness, and combat simulations are among the applications of AR that work well. According to Goldman Sachs, by 2025 the AR/VR sector will bring in US $1.4 billion in income from the military alone.

This paper provides a new solution of unmanned ship control with unmeasurable yaw angle in complex communication environments. A new adaptive output feedback controller is designed in this paper to ensure that the position error converges to zero asymptotically and meets the prescribed performance requirement. It is revealed that the designed control law can make sure that the tracking deviation convergence is not affected by the yaw angle estimated error. A simulation example is designed and completed to demonstrate the validity of the proposed controller.

This paper proposes a new energy-efficient scheme for a mobile edge computing (MEC) related wireless communication system. Specifically, a new energy efficiency model is proposed that computation energy con-sumption is considered. In this paper, computation energy is defined as the rate related energy used to provide the computing power in the information processing. Based on the model, we further formulate an optimization problem to maximize the weighted sum energy efficiency (WSEE) of all MEC servers. By applying the dual problem and the iterative methods, the optimization problem is solved and we present an energy-efficient allocation scheme. The simu-lation result shows the influence of the computation energy consumption on the system energy efficiency analysis. In addition, the result shows that the proposed allocation scheme outperforms both average allocation scheme and water-filling scheme.

As a new energy, wave energy has a large amount of energy, but its utilization rate is still very low. The main problems lie in the difficulty of wave energy collection and low conversion efficiency. In this paper, by analyzing the axial and vertical motion of the float motion of the oscillating floating point absorbing wave energy conversion device, and combining the specific situation of the float motion, the fourth order Runge Kutta method with high accuracy and good stability is used to solve the model, and the motion model of the float oscillator is established. Snake optimization algorithm is a new meta heuristic algorithm with few parameters, fast convergence, high precision and simple implementation. In this paper, the snake optimization algorithm is used to explore the maximum power of the energy conversion device according to the damping under different conditions, and a group of optimal schemes are given, which provides a valuable reference for the optimization of the wave energy conversion device. © 2022 IEEE.

The convergence of 5th generation (5G) technology with the Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) will be investigated in this paper. This convergence of these concepts will bring many benefits to the quality of life in communities by increasing the number of connected devices more safely and resulting in higher data rates. However, like any other uprising, it will have challenges, concerns, and bottlenecks. We offer resolutions and remedies to make applying the above three elements more feasible, accessible, and tangible. Future research directions for industries, academia, and policymakers will also be suggested.

With the high participation of renewable distributed generation (DG) units, the power supply reliability of the active distribution system (ADS) under extreme events has been improved, but its operation control also faces new challenges. Since the secondary control layer of the ADS relies on the local-area communication network to realize the information interaction, the time delay is an inevitable inherent factor that affects the dynamic performance of the entire system seriously. This paper first proposes an optimal design method to simultaneously design the topology and link weights of sparse communication networks based on mixed integer positive semidefinite programming (MISDP). The balance between time delay robustness and convergence speed of secondary control in the ADS can be adjusted by setting weights of optimal indexes. Finally, the proposed optimization problem is solved by Yalmip with Mosek 9.3. The methods are verified by the simulation results based on MATLAB/Simulink.
