With the advancements in mobile communication technology, intelligent transportation systems have evolved, leading to higher demands for vehicular communications. However, computation-intensive and power-consuming applications in these systems result in significant energy consumption and computation costs, posing challenges for onboard systems. To ensure a better Quality of Experience (QoE), traffic offloading and scheduling in vehicular networks become essential. This paper introduces a joint offloading strategy for Mobile Edge computing (MEC) enabled vehicular networks using quantum particle swarm optimization. The objective is to minimize delay cost and energy consumption by efficiently assigning tasks to available service nodes, including service vehicles and nearby Road Side Units (RSUs). The offloading process involves Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication, where a vehicle selection algorithm called Fuzzified Relay Learning model is utilized to determine the optimal offloading decision sequence. To optimize task delay and energy consumption, the proposed approach utilizes an adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm. This involves introducing a crossover operator to exchange information among individuals to maintain population diversity, and defining a crossover probability to enhance search capability and convergence speed. Additionally, an adaptive shrinkage expansion factor is designed to improve local search accuracy during later iterations. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed joint offloading strategy in reducing system overhead and task completion delay across various system parameters. By implementing this approach, vehicular networks can achieve better efficiency and performance, meeting the demanding requirements of intelligent transportation systems. © 2023 IEEE.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) is emerging as a promising technology that can accelerate the application of industrial intelligence. Because of the sensitive nature of user data, federated learning (FL) which performs distributed machine learning while preserving data privacy, is developed to meet the accuracy and privacy requirements of IIoT end devices/clients. However, the unreliable communications in IIoT may negatively affect the training efficiency. In this paper, we study on the client scheduling problem in a multi-server FL framework for the communication reliability and training efficiency improvement. A client-server association optimization problem is formulated, with the objective of minimizing the global training loss. Resorting to the convergence analysis of SD-FL, the original problem is simplified and transformed to guide us to design a high-efficiency client scheduling scheme. Finally, simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the baselines in terms of the test accuracy and training loss. © 2023 IEEE.

Energy optimization is critical in smart home systems and IoT networks, necessitating innovative models that reduce energy use. This research presents two Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network models for estimating home power consumption using time-series data. The first model employs a standard LSTM technique with multivariate characteristics including global active power, voltage, and sub-metering variables. This technique strikes a balance between prediction accuracy and computing economy, making it ideal for resource-constrained applications. The second model provides an optimized version of the LSTM, which uses PyTorch and Ray Tune for hyperparameter optimization. The optimization focuses on tweaking learning rates, batch sizes, and LSTM layers to improve model accuracy and convergence speed. Using hyperparameter tuning, the Mean Squared Error (MSE) for global active power forecasts is decreased to 0.0018, proving its appropriateness for low-resource IoT systems. Both models are tested on a resampled real-world household electric power consumption dataset for effective training. The study emphasizes the advantages of multivariate time-series analysis and hyperparameter optimization, demonstrating that the optimized LSTM model can accurately predict energy consumption, enhance energy management in smart homes, and lower computing costs. Future work will look into combining more IoT data streams and real-world deployment for further improvement. The findings add to the expanding body of knowledge about energy optimization in IoT environments, addressing the crucial demand for effective, real-time energy management systems. © 2024 IEEE.

On the basis of the traditional LMS algorithm and several improved algorithms, a variable step size LMS algorithm is proposed in this paper, which is based on the L2 norm. In this algorithm, a new nonlinear relationship between the step size and the error signal is established by introducing the input signal into the step size iteration function, so that it can reflect the impact of input signal on performance. Meanwhile, the smoothing factor is added to make the step size determined by current error value and also previous error, bringing it a certain noise immunity. In this paper, theoretical analysis and simulation experiments are conducted to compare the new algorithm with other existing algorithms from convergence speed, tracking performance and steady state mean square error (MSE). According to the simulation results, the proposed algorithm has a higher speed of convergence and better performance on tracking than those algorithms, whereas the steady state MSE remains the same as others.

This paper presents an overview of model-based (Iterative Learning Control, Model Predictive Control and Iterative Optimization) and non-model-based (Genetic-based Machine Learning and Reinforcement Learning) learning strategies for the control of wet clutches. Based on theoretical considerations and a validation on an experimental test bench containing wet clutches, the benefits and drawbacks of the different strategies are compared. Although after convergence a good engagement quality can be obtained by all strategies, only model-based strategies are suited for online applicability. The convergence time for non-model-based strategies is too long such that they can only be applied during an offline calibration phase.

The permutation flow shop problem (PFSP) has been studied by many researches and applied to plenty of applications. The PFSP has been confirmed to be an NP-complete permutation sequencing scheduling problem. Hence, many search schemes for finding near optima of PFSP were proposed. Insertion and exchange are two well used search schemes in finding solutions. Intrinsically, insertion scheme results in large range search (exploration), while exchange scheme corresponding to small range search (exploitation). To enhance the search efficiency by controlling exploration and exploitation abilities, an asymmetric sigmoid decline control in search pace is proposed. Restated, solution search based on designed control strategy starting from exploration towards exploitation is proposed. Meanwhile, a modified SA is included for avoiding trapping on local optimal solution, which the fitness deviation based acceptance criterion is suggested for avoiding acute acceptance probability turbulence. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme is effective and efficient when comparing with other state-of-the-art methods.

Scene text retrieval aims to find all images containing the query text from an image gallery. Current efforts tend to adopt an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) pipeline, which requires complicated text detection and/or recognition processes, resulting in inefficient and inflexible retrieval. Different from them, in this work we propose to explore the intrinsic potential of Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training (CLIP) for OCR-free scene text retrieval. Through empirical analysis, we observe that the main challenges of CLIP as a text retriever are: 1) limited text perceptual scale, and 2) entangled visual-semantic concepts. To this end, a novel model termed FDP (Focus, Distinguish, and Prompt) is developed. FDP first focuses on scene text via shifting the attention to the text area and probing the hidden text knowledge, and then divides the query text into content word and function word for processing, in which a semantic-aware prompting scheme and a distracted queries assistance module are utilized. Extensive experiments show that FDP significantly enhances the inference speed while achieving better or competitive retrieval accuracy compared to existing methods. Notably, on the IIIT-STR benchmark, FDP surpasses the state-of-the-art model by 4.37% with a 4 times faster speed. Furthermore, additional experiments under phrase-level and attribute-aware scene text retrieval settings validate FDP's particular advantages in handling diverse forms of query text. The world is experiencing a fast convergence of physical and cyber systems as objects used in day-to-day life are connected over the internet. These IoT devices are mass produced but ensure its usage in routine life. The impact of IoT in human life ranges from simple household equipment to life critical devices. Owing to the diversity both in application and nature, security had become a major concern on these devices and their applications. In spite of having many security frameworks and compliance regulations, attacks and on IoTs are exponentially growing. A handful of security frameworks are available for ensuring the security, there are very less frame works proposed for auditing the security. Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability which are the pillars of security in IoT are found missing or found to have been implemented with flaws. IoT security audit is one good solution which has proven success in the literature but challenging as the high level standards cannot be applied to low level device and applications. In addition, the challenges of audit include heterogeneity of IoT and lack of expert resources. IoT and related products reach market very quickly before it could be subjected to the complete audit procedures or in other words, the time taken for a new IoT device or application to be developed is very less than the time taken for developing an security audit mechanism. Hence, to enable an efficient security auditing of IoT devices, a definite and dynamic framework is needed that can propose feasible policies, automatic collection and analysis of audit data and tailor made procedures for risk assessment, risk control and risk mitigation. This Research focuses on the auditing of security vulnerability in IoT devices. Automatic Text Categorization (ATC) is a task of categorizing an electronic document to a predefined category automatically based on its content. There are many supervised Machine Learning (ML) techniques that has been used to solve Text Categorization (TC) problem. The complex morphology of Arabic language and its large vocabulary size makes using these techniques difficult and costly in time and attempt. We have investigated Bayesian learning which is based on Bayesian theorem to deal with Arabic ATC problem. Bayesian learning classifiers that have been applied are Multivariate Guess Naïve Bayes (MGNB), Flexible Bayes (FB), Multivariate Bernoulli Naïve Bayes (MBNB), and Multinomial Naïve Bayes (MNB). For text representation in terms of word level N-Gram, 1-Gram, 2-Gram and 3-Gram have been used. For Arabic stemming, a simple stemmer called TREC-2002 Light Stemmer is used in the prototype. For feature selection we have used several feature selection techniques i.e. Chi-Square Statistic (CHI), Odd Ratio (OR), Mutual Information (MI), and GSS Coefficient (GSS). The results showed that FB outperforms MNB, MBNB, and MGNB. The experimental results of this work proved that using word level n-gram for ATC based on Bayesian learning leads to acceptable results.
