The paper presents a Sub-Modelling - Boundary Element Method (BEM) for computing SCFs in samples exposed to pitting corrosion. The goal of this technique is to provide a detailed mapping of the stress concentration factor (SCF) including the effects of deep pits of several microns in a sample of a few centimetres size, provided that the topographical data of the sample is known in detail. The methodology is summarised as follows. First, the original geometrical data representing the top surface of the sample is used for building a hierarchical sequence of defeatured levels by means of a moving average approach. Second, an iterative three-dimensional BEM solving scheme is launched in order to explore and solve the sample data at a defeatured level. The calculation resolution level can be selected by the user. When the iterative solving scheme ends, an iterative assembly scheme starts in which the results of SCF and the geometrical error of the model are collocated at sampling points corresponding to the resolution selected by the user. Finally, and repeatedly if necessary, a new solving iteration sequence may be launched with increased resolution, in the regions of the sample data that require more accuracy, such as zones of high SCF, large geometrical error, or steep gradient of any of them. The process continues until convergence of results is achieved. The tool has been successfully tested in several real case scenarios, and the results obtained compare well with experimental findings.

Subsea cables face more and more challenges due to the increasing marine economic activities and frequent natural disasters, such as anchorage, fishing, widening, earthquake and tsunami, which greatly affect the life of subsea cables and pipelines. Firstly, this paper reviews the situation of subsea cables and the resulting difficulties for localization. The tradition subsea detection methods, such as hydroacoustic and visual methods, are excluded from the subsea cable detection and localization due to the applicability of detection for large-sized and exposed subsea pipelines. Based on the structural composition of different subsea cables, the active electromagnetic sensing method are selected as the optimal approach to combined with particle swarm optimization (PSO). Secondly, based on the extensive application of the swarm intelligent optimization algorithm in practical engineering, this paper proposes a novel subsea cable localization (discrete cable location and burial depth) method by using an underactuated autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) carrying with a tri-axial electromagnetic sensor. The electromagnetic sensor is used to capture the magnetic signal which are radiated from the AC electrified subsea cable. Based on the framework of PSO and electromagnetic signal sequences, the PSO localization method is designed. Furthermore, the electromagnetic sensing based PSO localization method is compared with cable-following detection and tracking method from the practical view. Finally, a principle numerical simulation is design to test the effectiveness of the proposed subsea cable localization method. In order to meet the practical demands, the PSO should be modified to improve the stability and convergence speed, the online path planning and platform motion control method should be developed. © 2019 Association for computing Machinery.

It is difficult to provide web services on a mobile environment because of the intermittent disconnection of a wireless network and the frequent change of context information. Research on hosting, migrating, and replicating Web services on mobile devices is still in its early stage. This paper presents an efficient method for establishing a policy of migrating Web services on a mobile environment. Based on WS-Policy, the proposed method defines a policy schema, which provides constructs for describing various kinds of contextual information including the requirements of a possible target host. Specifically, the schema is designed to be extensible enough for different service providers to use different vocabularies to describe their policies. To show the validity, the proposed method for establishing a migration policy has been applied to our mobile Web services framework, which supports migrating Web services among mobile devices.

The growing popularity of blockchain has brought about the need for monitoring and analyzing blockchain transactions, nodes, blocks, and smart contracts in order to make sure that the blockchains operate legally, efficiently, and reliably. Various government authorities (police, taxation office, banking and financial) show great interest in monitoring blockchain transactions. In this paper, we present the design of blockchain monitoring and analysis system for collecting and analyzing important aspects of blockchain operations.

Reservoir identification plays an important role in the oil and gas exploration, especially in the complex reservoir analysis. The complex geological environment gives rise to the complexity of the reservoir, which is taken shape as a result of multiple geological factors, thus making the underground oil and gas reservoirs possess a strong nonlinearity and fuzzy features. This paper is based on the fuzzy neural network theoretically, and takes advantage of the fuzzy neural network technology to identify complex reservoir. In accordance with different complex reservoir and their features, this technology makes fully use of well-logging, well-drilling, core stone and test to choose different parameter for different complex reservoir as input parameter. In the light of different input parameter and the number of middle layer neurons, this skill uses genetic algorithm to optimize initial parameter, and takes BP algorithm to improve convergence speed. This technology applies to carbonate reservoirs in Tarim, carbonate reservoirs in Long Gang, Sichuan, Karamay volcanic reservoir and water-sensitive reservoir, its coincidence rate reaches 83.62%, achieving fruitful applied outcomes. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

In the fast-changing field of machine learning, data privacy and model training efficiency are crucial. Federated Learning (FL) is a breakthrough method for training models on several decentralized devices or servers without centralizing raw data. This study examines Federated Learning's challenges in optimizing model training in dispersed systems. The first stage is to examine the Federated Learning (FL) framework and its merits, particularly in protecting data privacy and reducing server dependence. The next section will discuss communication overhead, stragglers, and non-IID (independent and identically distributed) data issues in a decentralized training model. We developed novel optimization methodologies and adaptive algorithms to improve Federated Learning (FL) efficiency. This includes updating asynchronous models, adaptability-based communication frequency, and non-IID data management. We also present a resilient aggregation method that mitigates Byzantine failures in participating nodes. We demonstrate that our methods improve convergence rate, communication costs, and model performance trained with Federated Learning (FL) by conducting a series of comprehensive experiments and analyzing real-world case studies. We show that these enhancements do not compromise data privacy, preserving Federated Learning (FL) principles. In conclusion, this study advances Federated Learning in decentralized systems. In an age of data sensitivity, this approach could help implement efficient, scalable, and privacy-preserving machine-learning methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Traceability links are useful for requirements change impact analysis, requirements conflict analysis, and requirements consistency checking. However, establishing and maintaining traceability links places a big burden since complex systems have especially yield an enormous number of various artifacts. We propose a value estimation method for feature-oriented requirements tracing. It uses a feature as intermediate catalysis to generate traceability links between user requirements and implementation artifacts, by priority level after analyzing each feature's value. In addition, we present value evaluation parameters including requirements importance, requirements risk, cost & efforts, and templates for value analysis.

The convergence of an aging population and breakthrough technological advances has created endless opportunities for automated medical devices. These devices help ensure the future health of millions of people by providing advances in home health care, clinical activities and medical imaging. But these devices could only measure a single parameter and just display the data. This paper discusses the health monitoring system using microcontrollers and GSM technology. It is a combination of ubiquitous computing with mobile health technology to monitor the wellbeing of patients. The microcontroller analyses the data in real-time and determines whether the person needs external help. It interfaces with medical devices including a blood-pressure monitor, a heart rate monitor and an electronic thermometer and offer suggestions based on the readings. If the readings are abnormal then it sends messages to the care takers and in case of critical conditions it automatically gives call/message to the ambulance. It mainly focuses to improve the health of people and could ease the burden on the health-care system.

Software defined networking (SDN) and its enabling standards, OpenFlow promise flexible and faster evolving networks, by separating the control plane from data plane so that the control plane becomes more responsive to the changes in topology, load balancing requirement, and suspicious traffics. To ever-changing security attacks, SDN also offers new potentials to handle security threats in more robust and reactive way. The previous SDN firewall proposals suffer from firewall long setup up latency and controller overhead. This paper presents a topology aware selective firewall distribution solution, which sends only necessary firewall configuration rules considering the traffic flows and network topology. The Mininet simulation results in various network sizes show the proposed solution reduces the firewall setup traffic and lessens the firewall-violated traffic travel route significantly, so suitable for large-scale SDN networks.
